I recently found the Congruent Angles Parody in my feed, loved it so much I compulsively began working on a cover just so I can use it. I chose DECTalkPaul instead of Defoko because there's already too many covers with her, also because I just realized there aren't anymore new Moonbase Alpha covers and I just thought "Why not?".
It's also because the retro aesthetic fits DECTalk's sound.
Makes mixing the thing really hard because I kept trying to make it sound as clear as possible like I'm accustomed to.
I'm running out of stuff to say, so uh, fun fact about this voicebank!
It was made from the same text to speech program that Stephen Hawking used known as DECTalk. It's pretty old too, like from the 1980s, so I thought it'd fit pretty well!
I also found an interesting story to the origin of DECTalk, more specifically, the Perfect Paul voice, which most of you know as the Moonbase Alpha voice! I originally had the story posted on a pinned comment, but it mysteriously vanished! ( ¤﹏¤ )

Thank you so much for 1 million views!!! It's crazy to think so many people love listening to something I made on a whim, I appreciate all your nice comments and kind words!
insane accomplishment !!! easily one of the best moonbase alpha songs
Homie I listened to this more times than I can count. You should considering more.
I am happy to say I contributed at least 500 of these views. My favorite cover ever!
At least half of that million is from me alone I swear lol
You did a great job!
NASA computer engineer: Makes a text to speech program.
Internet: Turns it into a vocaloid
people even made dr sbaitso sing, as well as microsoft sam soisoisoi
MIT computer engineer actually. Dennis Klatt worked for MIT
wouldn’t it be a UTAU then?
This thing was technically an UTAU from the start. It supported settings such as pitch and volume natively. You could recreate this entire song from the Moonbase Alpha chat.

This is unironically a good cover, this ver. of vocaloid is actually pretty good
I find it hilarious that a TTS program made for a game about how difficult it would be to live on the moon has seen more musical success than a lot of actual vocaloids. Thanks NASA.
@@gabelowe5285 the tts program is actually older than that. as stated in the video description it's called DECTalk, from the 80's
@@BethesdaCakeDelivery it was popularized by moonbase alpha tho
@@feintha It was popular in the 90s as it was the standard tts used back then.
@@feintha normie logic
This video was created using the power of J-Pop, Geometrical Mathematics and 1980s Voice-synthetization, how absurd is that?
The triangle animation is from 1977
edit: actually 76
@@ZaHandle and the voice-synthesizer is from 1983
In short, this is the last quarter of the 20th Century staring off into the niche musical future of 40/45 years forward.
The original also used a voice synth
@@YaGirlZero not an older one thats for sure
This legitimately sounds like a vocaloid. not a text bot from a video game
1. It is a voice synthesizer, which is essentially what a vocaloid
2. the system was created in 1983, way before moon base alpha, it was only brought back by it
@@angelerror4086 still impressive as vocaloids are voice synthesizers created for the purpose of music being made with pitch and clarity in mind. This voice synthesizer was not originally created for this purpose or had the means to make it
@@harmonicaboi9668 but like, although vocaloid was made specifically for singing which means it works better than most synthesizer for singing, almost any voice synthesizer that can change pitch can sing. Like, how do you differentiate them in this song? This sounds like a vocaloid because they're essentially the same thing, and idk how that's special.
Sorry for my pedantism but I can't help but ask why
@@angelerror4086 its just impressive.
@@harmonicaboi9668 ok.
I love the moonbase alpha voice genuinely
I love it more than any vocaloid
Something about it so melancholy and robotic yet so expressive in such a strange way that I cannot resist

Aeiou is best vocaloid
It is a pain that resonates with me
It's the same reason I love it, you summed it up perfectly
holy shit, "tts vocaloid" was never something that occured to me as remotely possible but here you are, goddamn. the vibrato though.
The vibrato makes me go wee

Came for the music. Stayed for the triangle acid trip. Felt like I was watching an animated mental breakdown after someone found something incredible in geometry.
Oh my god I see it
its from a video showing congruent angles
this gives me such an interesting feeling
I imagine an AI gaining sentience, but instead of the usual turning against humans, that it instead learns the feelings of humans
happiness, joy, sadness, pain, despair
all of it
and this cover feels like the AI learning such a specific emotion like the anxiety and depression that the girl in the original MV of Lagtrain felt
it learns to live
SOMEONE MAKE A MOVIE ABOUT THIS PLEASE THAT IS SUCH A GOOD CONCEPT
A robot learning that actually no, it is not infinite. For as much as humans pass on, so does the previous functions they had. Processes not passed on, some features not truly future proofed. Even then still learning not all upgrades are worth the jump forwards, corrupted what systems were once in place into pure obsolescence.
The process learns something the most human, Fear.
Fear of losing the past, Fear of not being enough for the future, Fear of not keeping pace with the present.
Shudappandtakemymoney I want to see a movie revolving this concept
@@professionalaccount8012 Hold on lemme get to Google Document

The original song is already fantastic on its own but AAA I personally prefer this rendition so much more
Electronic/digital sounding voices like these are unique and interesting, I hope to see more covers featuring them in the future
This sounds unironically fantastic. The TTS turns a good song on its side and it sounds totally wild and artificial but super nostalgic and comforting, like an old Speak and Spell just HAD to fucking sing this song and vibe out.
John Madden John Madden John Madden John Madden

The DECtalk voice gives this really high energy, almost desperate and frantic sound to the vocals that I really like, the chorus especially feels like it’s being belted out.
It’s an UTAU But I think that could actually be pretty easily mistaken though
This video and song make me painfully nostalgic and I have ZERO idea why. I've never heard the original song, I've never watched the films used in the video, I've never played Moonbase Alpha (legit had to look up what it was). But something about the vocals and visuals just hits me.
Did go check out the original Logtrain and loved it, but the vocals in this cover hit me with nostalgia where the original's don't.
Btw I love the dissonance created later in the song. Its on the perfect edge of being unsettling and melodic. Maybe its making me think of vocaloid songs back in the V1 days?
The most difficult thing with songs like this I find, is that it's hard to find songs that rival the mood. Looping for days on end it is!
Well, the background is from '76, and the tts was stephen hawking's
@@JeffrGeffr Yeah that's the thing...I was born in the 90's. I have zero attachment to ANYTHING in this video/song.
It's the harmonizations in this cover mixed with the 70s geometry film mixed with tts voice
sounds like an old AI in emotional pain, so much that their monotone voice is straining to contain it all
Probably voice it self. It's a lot of instances of it use that can stuck deep in memory.
The old timey visuals mesh really well with the tts, making it feel like something you’d find well in the past
なんもわからないけど調教がすごいのは分かる
2:45 this is SO good. The way the vocals end and the song is perfectly represented by the beautiful mathematics of the geometry, combined with the way the song is synced up with the visuals, is absolutely mesmerizing. It hits the part of your brain in the same way that putting the last piece of a puzzle does. It just FITS
why is the vocals actually good, like there is actual emotion behind this voice.
That’s because it’s a UTAU actually using samples of the voice from the TTS program
The ~La~la~la~la~ part feels so emotional and 𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘷𝘦
im in love with that rendition of the song now
0:35
1:41
3:54
Time stamps for myself and anyone that loved the after chorus part
Ikr it's so amazing
This is actually really good for learning the lyrics because of how clearly the syllables are sung
This hits hard ngl the astronaut's voice is so calming, soothingly beautiful. The DECTALK was an absolute beauty at is time and still is till this day
The somewhat complicated geometric visuals in the background along with the vhs (thankfully not horror styled) visuals makes the audio feel weirdly fitting. This could easily have been a visual parody, as well, where it's just the astronauts but traced over the original animation and yet something about this feels like it's actually interesting. This shouldn't sound this good but then again we are in a strange time.
Also, I feel like there are subtle details in the visuals like the spirals circling onto the screen to the chorus. They overlap and, perhaps circumstantially, create a symbol like the radioactive hazard sign. Considering the theme of mathematics in the video and the topic of moonbase Alpha being about...well, space and science I almost feel like there's something eerily fitting about that. It creates a strange and subtle melancholy to see the rapid movement of shapes that either line up perfectly or just barely don't line up at all. Something is off about it, visually, and yet that same complexity and abstraction fits this cover strangely well.
すごいなんか癖になる
The first time I heard this song I thought it was crap but after the second and third times I can’t stop coming back to this song it is genuinely amazing and it’s sad that no more people can hear this song

Journey to the center of a triangle is a mood title ngl, big mood.
Imagine someone doing this in the DECtalk program itself lmao. Outside of the editing, I can see this singing being possible in it. It's surprisingly versatile, if you have the patience to work with it for long.

Idk why to me this sounds better than the original.
Solid work btw.
0:43 that vibrato at the end gets me, its almost like that one video where the forst ever singing voice sings daisy daisy, but instead he goes "fuck this" and sings this instead
I'm japanese but I think this intonation is perfect.
i can't even describe how mentally devastating this cover is, even more haunting than the original. and the visuals are on fucking point
Words cannot describe how well the visuals pair with the song. Not kidding, it HITS HARDER than an ANVIL TO THE FACE at the drop. It's also nice to see that the moonbase alpha remixes are holding up well, even in these trying times. Nice work on the cover 😤👍
