iPod Classic Repair Guide: How to replace your iPod's casing

- This was done as part of the restoration process of my 5th generation iPod classic. With this mod, I decided not to change the appearance of my iPod too much. I simply wanted to make it look like it did when it was brand new again. The whole process was very straightforward and took me about a half-hour to complete. In the end, I had an iPod that looked brand new. In the future, I will be modding this iPod further, but at the time of recording this video, I did not have the extra parts, so those mods will have to wait.
If you want to do this to your iPod, there are tons of colors and styles you can choose from. You can make it completely custom if you want. Even though this was done on a 5th generation iPod, the process is almost identical on most iPod classics.

that was super satisfying to watch! Especially peeling off the plastic at the end. I recently found my old 5th gen that looks just like yours. I ordered a new battery in hopes that is the issue. If it ends up just being that I will be getting a new case for it as well.
Congratulations on 100 subscribers!
Thanks!
MIne dropped and it has fine cracks like its glass. Is the original one glass cover?
I just wish I could find a high quality aftermarket iPod faceplate. All the ones I have tried scratch super easy and the click wheel doesn't sit flush. Anyone here know a good supplier? I think they all come from the same factory in China though.

Yes! you are absolutely correct! The screws don't line up correctly with the Chinese Ipod covers! I wish there was a company that made covers like the original ones!
Where to get front plate replacement?
Where did you get the new housing case from?
What kind of screwdriver do you use?
And all I wanted to do was replace the plastic screen covering because mine is scuffed. Good grief, lol.
Lol the hardest part is getting the thing open. Everything should be smooth sailing from there. Good luck!
Is there any difference between the casing of the iPod 5 and 6 gen ?
@@bendermi 5 is plastic 6 is metal. I'm not sure if they're interchangeable across generations.
@@dave-etc
I've just been on Reddit the iPod classic 5 6 and 7th gen should be interchangeable, there is a guy who put a 5.5 in a 7th gen .
I want to put a scratched 5.5 in a 6th gen .
Heya, what screwdriver is that? I got the screws out for mine but its near impossible to get them back in. I already lost a screw
My screwdriver kit is from a brand called Kaisi. It's honestly a pretty cheap set, I just got it off amazon but any precision screwdriver set should work fine. The key is getting a set with magnetic driver bits. That way the screws stick to your screwdriver and you don't lose them on the floor.

If you don't want to open you can get an auxiliary output in a 30 pin connector.
Hi I wonder if it is possible to replace the ipod classic 5th faceplate with the 6th generation one. Thanks and sorry if my english is bad.
I'm not entirely sure. The 5th and 6th gen are very close, but they are still different. You might be able to force it, but I doubt it would be perfect.
@@dave-etc Thanks also do you found any aluminum front panel for the iPod video yet? I just really obssessed with the aluminum material.
@@uuia idk if it's possible but just know that 6 gen are a nightmare to open because of the aluminum because it doesn't bent like plastic
This is epic
From where can I buy this casing
I got mine from Elite Obsolete Electronics. You can google them and it should come up.
3:33 hye whats with this putty?
That's just electrical tape. If I remember right, the bracket that held the screws for my hold switch broke. So, I just taped it in place. It's not perfect, but it got the job done. Still holding up 3 years later.
i recently replaced my phone screen. now my front facing camera doesn't work lol
lol oops
Try and connect to a computer, go to settings and search for new device.

This fifth gen iPod is probably the easiest thing I’ve ever tried to mod/repair. Once you have everything it’s honestly self explanatory.
they don't even come open!!!
