I like how the stages of grief/loss interpretation can still work without the whole "Link is dead" bit. The journey fits for someone who lost a friend, which is the whole reason Link was wandering the woods in the first place.
8:25 - going back to strongest Link, I can just imagine a parody where all the Links have their games switched up, and BotW/TotK Link being switched into this game and solving it on the first cycle by shield parrying the moon away on day three. Mostly because I can just picture the look of utter confusion on the moon’s face as it flies off. 😆
Love Majora's mask, the game yes but I've always been fascinated by the mask itself. The leering eyes ,bright colors, and spikes all carry a visual language that naturally reads as dangerous to us. For example the spikes are, well.... spikes but also, arranged like spider legs and fangs, the vibrant coloration is most often carried by venomous creatures, and the eyes being so wide gives a very confrontational feeling, like being hunted and/or stared at. It's so well designed to look threatening and insane all while being gorgeous.
9:57 That was done in 1997 with Castlevania Symphony of the Night. If you find Maria and get the glasses from her before fighting Richter then you unlock the extended game where you can explore the inverted castle.
It was hard to get used to the 3day cycle as a kid.. but once I got used to it I realized how amazing it was... having 3 days of characters going about their lives and seeing things change based on certain activities you did. It was amazing.
I remember trying to explain MM back in the day. One girl, who then got hooked, finally got it as Groundhog day (as in the movie) the game. When she said that my first instinct was nah. Then I was like, yh I suppose so.
my absolute favourite jank mobility option in any game is the cardboard box in metal gear solid 3, where you can get around the speed penalty you get while walking up hill by walking with the cardboard box on your head. also a small correction: the fastest link can move in ocarina of time is back flipping with the iron boots on.
@@wikiweekends it's a weird thing that the iron boots do to the backflip animation normally the backflip covers a lot of distance, but it's slow because you have to fall all the way back to the ground, but with the iron boots you gain barely any height and you fall back down faster, so you can chain backflips really quickly with the iron boots on.
Technically the fastest movement is the backwards tilt sliding. I can't remember it exactly, but it involves dropping a bomb and using the explosion to propel yourself backwards. The only way to keep the momentum is to very precisely keep the stick at a specific movement value and at the opposite direction you want to slide. I've seen Ocarina speedrunners use it to get up Death Mountain to Goron City in a few seconds. I tried it a few times and it's really difficult to get and keep the stick in the right spot. Even more so to turn while keeping the stick at the same speed value.
@@pepsigotdanghare Oh yeah, I remember that, you can use the Bomb mask and a shield in order to get that one rolling from what I remember. I don't have the skill to do that high level of tech.
About the moon approaching as a timer, it reminds me so much of the time loop in Outer Wilds, so I guess they took a lot of inspiration but used it in their own amazing way in 2019. The time loop takes a neat part in gameplay and story to the point that it's so much more than just an excuse for a checkpoint
One of my favorite fan theory/interpretation of media has to be the idea that Gilligan's Island is hell and each character embodies a deadly sin except Gilligan and the Skipper; you had Gilligan (the Devil), the Skipper too (both Gluttony and Wrath), the millionaire (Greed) and his wife (Sloth), the movie star (Lust), the professor (Pride) and Mary Ann (Envy).
MM is in my top 3 favorite zelda games, and on any given day it can be number 1. Other 2 are wind waker and twilight princess. It holds a special place in my heart for being the first game i can remember made me feel so many feelings i didnt know a game could. The horror and dread of the moon, thesadness of the kafei and anju story, and absolute joy in finally getting all the masks and taking out majora with the fierce deity's mask!
6:05 No, Karl, you're thinking of Super Mario 64 speedrunning. If you go "HAH HAH HAH" backflipping backwards in the Zelda 64 titles you'll go slower than simply running silently backwards. Also, the quickest way of moving in Majora's Mask is actually the Goron Mask with magic in your magic meter. 8:26 No one, not even speedrunners, can play the game in one 3 day cycle. Your first 3 day cycle is meant to be just getting your ocarina back and being able to be hylian again so that you can reset time yourself and not have to be saved by the Happy Mask Salesman. But for anyone playing the game for the first time, figuring everything out as they go, its likely that they'll have to spend every cycle getting to the next dungeon and finishing it before resetting it. The game is made in such a way that you can only realistically figure out how to get to a dungeon and complete one in that timespan, without prior knowledge. And there are 4 dungeons. Then you can spend a final cycle going to every dungeon, fighting the boss again, and finally getting to Majora and finishing the game.
Bit of confusion with my vague language there yeah. What I was referring to as the first cycle was actually the first 'real' cycle of the game in which you get to start as Link. Not the Deku run which is basically just the games intro. It's not easy and requires a lot of prior knowledge, but on that first 'Link cycle' of the 3 days, you can definitely beat the game, but it's not expected to be done that way at all haha. - Lucas
It's definitely dark and depressing on the face of things, but most of the game is helping people get over their struggles and it's pretty heartwarming by the conclusion. - Lucas

Then it died so fast, idk if that was a update or something I didn't notice before
i think the problem with the 5 stages of grief theory is that people often jump from there to matpats link is dead theory because its one of the main pieces of evidence for his theory, when thats not even remotely the only thing it could mean. i mean, li k is by far the least likely to be dead in that game, i personally believe that the 5 stages did play at least a subconcious part in designing the differnt areas, because the worls is dying and and stages are common reactions to coming to terms with your own death, which again, is something literally everyone but link would need to be doing at some point during the 3 day cycle, be that right away before the game even started or less than a second before the chrashed moon blows up clock town. seriously linkn and arguably the salesman and skull kid are the only characters who may not die on a failed cycle, so why jump to link is dead when the game takes place in a dying world, with plenty of dying/dead characters to grief even without the moon as an element
Not technically a glitchy game, but i got the survive 7 days achievement in Dead Rising before Microsoft fixed the heat problem. I red ringed 3 consoles.
