Apart from road numbers, the key to success in Sweden is bus stops - each of the 21 regions has their unique design and colour scheme.
They also have their unique buses. At 12:55, you can see a bus from Västtraffik. They operate in western Sweden around Gothenburg and Västergötland.
Another thing is the general climate, scania and north of Stockholm is really different while the middle land is more tempered
Another tip- local “Ica “-stores in small towns often have the town name written on them.
Yeah, even if you don't live in Gothenburg (in which case you would know Lindome in an instant) the Västtrafik bus sheds are instantly recognisable.
@@KittenCrittershigh numbers on the buses 😭 i live very close to lindome and we used to have a bus that was at the 700s, meanwhile the other buses in the gothenburg city are under 100
Swedish kommuner are the 290 municipalities.
As a swede, "birch sauce", "bus a gen", "parp" was very funny pronounciations 😂
Skrattade ihjäl mig när han sa påarp (parp)
Jag tyckte han sa "bird sauce"
As a Swede, I found this video very entertaining!
Also the “k” in “norrköping” making a “sh” sound when in front of a vowel like ö
@@HeathenMaiden ok tack
k before a soft vowel (e,i,y,ä,ö) in swedish is ALWAYS the sch sound unless it is a loanword. The exception with loanwords makes it really hard.
@@klinken2120 K before hard vowels (A, o, u å) is always the K sound unless it is a loanword.
12:28 västtrafik!!! If you see a light blue bus that has västtrafik on it you are near Gothenburg.
Also the giant "Mölndal" sign! He scrolled past Mölndal multiple times on the map haha. Also the amount of leaf trees over pine trees indicates southern-central Sweden.
and like anywhere else in Västra Götaland :D
When looking for roadnumbers in Sweden, if the number has a dotted line around it then it means that the road you are on will lead to that road.
As a Swede, the way you pronounced "Bustigen" is very funny.
I laughed out loud at that one too hahahha BUSTigen
if you find a supermarket like "Ica" or "Coop" they often say the place the supermarket is near, more often on "Ica Nära" which translates to "Ica Close (by)"
Its fun to see someone play sweden that dont know where anything is. And also, since you dont know about sweden alot of clues are missed. Mölndal stad tells you nothing but if you know sweden it tells you where you are. Every swede knows where Leksand is but if you arnt from sweden, how could you know. Its like me playing Brasil where I dont even know where the larger cities are located or what their names are.
Yeah the fact that the sign says "stad" and not kommun is also a tell it is a bigger city. It litteraly means city. Also Mölndal is where I grew up so kind of funny to see Lindome in a sign and instantly realise aproximatley where it was. I dont think you know where Lindome is unless you are from the Gothenburg area, whereas alot of people would know Mölndal.
A tip for Sweden is if the road name ends with "g." it's short for "gatan" which means street
The street*
Gata= Street
@@elin_ Jag översätter det så så att det blir mindre att förklara eftersom vi använder "gatan" på samma sätt som de använder "street"
Haha funny seeing someone on a local road i've been on many times irl
brassman o grejer
A lot of the times small villages has similar ending deepening on where you are. For example -arp is South.
And once the towns start having Finnish/Sami sounding names you know you are in the northernmost regions.
me living really close to lindome and seeing the road hes on which is incredibly familiar, and i hear him say, lets look north💀
The roads were circled with dashed borders, that means you can get to those roads if you follow that direction, not that you're on them.
I loved it when you saw the road sign for the direction to Sollefteå and thought you where in the Town.
Those road signs without a distance numbers are just used for directions when the road situation is complicated.
A trick for seeing how far north you are in Sweden is how the forests look.
Scane and the west coast is dominated by leaf trees. Middle sweden from Gävle/Stockholm and south is mixed forrest and further north is dominated by Coniferous trees with ever fewer leaf trees the further up you get.
In Kungsbacka, there are "Oslo" signs.... It is almost a four hour drive...
E6 and E20 runs combined south of Gothenburg. That is why you had trouble finding E20, at 20:37 you can actually see it on the map aswell!
20:28 You were literally going through Lindome, the place you tried to find, and you couldn't find it XD
Can't blame you, though. The name didn't show up on the map.
18:55 is rough, it should say Lindome over that big grey area on the left, instead of the other names.
ye, it only shows the name for the ica and "spinneriet"
Southern Sweden is much hillier than people realize, if you look up a topography map you’ll see there is a plateu east of Gothenburg that is known as sydsvenska höglandet (south Swedish highlands) hope this helps for future geoguessr rounds in Sweden 🙌
It's very common that roads in europe have multiple numbers at the same time, notably when its an E-road. Like in the last part the E6 and E20 are both the same phsyical road but maps only shows E6
also i was just screaming LOOK AROUND Göteborg FOR FUCK SAKE! 🤣
You basically went right past my old house in the last round, so knowing pretty much exactly where it was and seeing you struggle was interesting.
As someone who lives donw that road in Lindome. Watching this was very entertaining. I imidietly recognised that crossing as its right next to a school i know of.
13:00 I have been on this road multiple times! It was so weird seeing it from a photo
I'm currently living in Norrköping and wouldn't even have located the airport that fast.
I’m only at 9:25, but my first reaction was “it looks like he’s in Bispgården” 😂 only passed through there, grew up outside of Sollefteå 😂 Loved your pronunciation of the names.
Your comment reminded me how to pronounce that name (sollefteå). I have not used or heard that name in several years now. When I saw the name in the video I had no clue what it was.
I can assure you Lindome exists😭
Idk why it wasn't showing up on maps
It did show up when he zoomed in
There are more mountains up north but around the Gothenburg Borås region the terrain is pretty hilly
it was rly fun to watch you play and try to pronounce the places but i gotta say the last round… as someone who used to live in that area and used to travel those roads every single week it was a bit painful 😂 unfortunately i think you would’ve been able to get it quicker if you turned towards Gräggered at the start of that round (would’ve gotten signs towards Mölnlycke which is bigger than Lindome) just unlucky with choosing directions 😅 glad you managed to figure it out at the end tho!!
Å=AW in english, Ö is like the "I" in "Bird" en english. and A is ah in english whilst Ä=the A in Cake.
I agree with everything except the Ä.
But I guess that has to do where in Sweden you're from, I'm from Umeå and I don't really find my Ä sound in Cake anywhere. But I like your comment anyway. (Ursäkta min dåliga engelska)
A better word for Ä would be "Ask", where the A sounds nearly as a perfect Swedish Ä.
Even "As" works
Å is more like the ”o” in ”ore”, or the ”o” in ”or”, or the ”ou” in ”course”.
Ä is more like the ”a” in ”can”, or the ”a” in ”fan”, or the ”a” in ”stash”.
Ö is spot on. It can also just be described as the ”uh” sound you make when thinking about something.
@@vardekpetrovic9716 k
I find this to be inaccurate and probably a result of people with Swedish accents. Native English accents do not pronounce the I in Bird anything like a Swedish Ö and probably comes from Swedes with an accent who pronounce "Bird" as "Bööhrd" I also find that the A in Cake is not remotely pronounced like a Swedish Ä. I am a Swede(Specifically Östgötsk with a fairly heavy östgötskt/Linköpings dialect) that speaks English with an indistinguishable accent from Native speakers (specifically American accent) The A in Cake is much more like a "Ceik" or "caik" than it is "cäke" I mean, just try for a minute with English pronounciation to say "cäke" it sounds absolutely ridiculous, I don't even think this could be your regional dialect as no Swedish dialect that I can think of pronounces Ä anything like the A in Cake. Some English words however that come pretty close to a Swedish Ä sound is "Ash" or "Dare" even in old English where they had the "Ä" (technically "Æ") letter, it was called Ash and was fairly close to if not identical to the Scandinavian Ä/Æ. As for "AW" most English speakers wouldn't pronounce it the way Å sounds, but instead with a AH-W sound. Most English speakers would read "Aw" as they would in "Awww" when you imply something cute. I would argue Å is fairly close however to the british pronounciation of the "Aw" in Law. But just "AW" by itself would be read by most English natives the same way as "Awww"
Härryda and eskilsby sounds like typical Småland names
1:29 holy shit i recognized this in a split second! i've driven on this road COUNTLESS times, and it's currently the road i drive every day on my way to and back from work! i've watched so many geoguessr videos but never seen a place so close to home before :D
12:52 The buss has a small "västrafik" text which means it operates in the west coast region roughly around Gothenburg.
This is funny as a swede. The pronunciations and some things like ”apparently lindome is a big place” while searching in the mountains up north 😂
12:33 a tip that is way to late. It say "västtrafik" on the bus, that means west traffic.. meaning basically west coast diatrict regonal transport service.
Some information that would have helped to know is that the E6 and the E20 merge into 1 road heading south, google maps cleary only shows it as the E6 even though it's the same road
1:05
Scandinavia = Norway, Sweden, Denmark
Nordic = The above + Finland and Iceland
There you have it, it’s not hard. If you really wanna include Finland in Scandinavia you gotta say Fennoscandia, which is Finland, Sweden, Norway and the Kola peninsula.
17:22 - It feels like you were only looking in the direct proximity of the E6 and E20.
The E6 and E20 signs are surrounded by dotted lines, which means that the sign is pointing towards them. So you can be quite far away.
If you had been on the E6 and E20, the sign would have solid lines.
The color of busses gives away soo much. And so does the look of buss stops. They are very regional.
Also street names are usually double info they contain the name + a key information about the environment. If a name ends in ”sjö” there is lake near by. The name may also contain the size of the place ”by” means small village ”köping” usually means small town.
Look at the trees!!! The last one was clearly in southern Sweden because you see more trees with leaves than pine trees or spruce trees. Combine this with the hilliness and the looks, my guess was instantly either västra götaland or halland.
Hurts to se him look for Lindome when you know where it is
bruh i live in lindome and i have driven on that road 100 times
As a swede this was really fun, when you searched way to north for the last place wich is in my region. I could like see the sign for a place i have been in a few times and shit
You know what's funny about the third round? I have cousins from around that area. So I knew immediately where you were after walking across the tracks.
Its crazy that the first place in Sweden is my home city
Scandinavia is the countries following the ridge of the Skandia mountains. (Even below the sea) That includes Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Iceland. The nordic countries are those but also include Finland.
I notice town names with "ryd" in them pop up exclusively south of Stockholm in latitude.
Funny actually, if you can figure out bus numbers in sweden you can search up the line and you know roughly between where you are.
I think by now most of us realize that pronouncing swedish words as a foreigner correctly takes like 40 years of living in sweden most of the time haha
Watching this to hear your funny pronunciations to see if I recognize some of the places
Round 5, 11:05 I live a few km away from there ❤️ driven these road countless times in order to put my baby to sleep lol
that update is very nifty!
the buses are huge waypoints in sweden, from what company owns them, Västtrafik, SL etc,
You see a sign pointing toward a road to Sollefteå and think you're in Sollefteå???
Thought I recognized the second spot and yup, that's 5 minutes from where my mother's cousin lives!
Did you know that the busses not only go to big cities "there's a bus so we must be near a big city", im swede and i know, i live in a village with 400 people and there are busses frequantly there.
Nah, but honestly Sweden is such a pain in the ass to 25k
Lindome has grown huge in the last 20 years and I just think google maps is behind.
Sweden is one of the hardest countries to guess. I can never 5k Sweden
nice music!
instantly recognizing my friends home haha. funny that you got my home town
I'm still trying to find Jabrolter on the map.
If you look at the buss stops you can find the name of the region on that, but that probaly only helps i you know the regions lol
Also the busses, you can find what reginol oporator it is on them
I was ur 200th subscriber!!
findland aint scandinavia, but it is nordic wich iceland also are included😅 scandinavia is only sweden, norway and denmark
Actually the northwestern part of Finland are located in Scandinavia :)
2:58 At first I thought you said something else
He to
As a professional driver that knows south of uppsala really well i find this really amusing
Sweden is actually both nordic and scandinavian. Ye a little confusing but basically the three countries of sweden, denmark and norway are "scandinavian" while the nordic countries also includes iceland and finland.
Nice. I live in Finland and have played a lot of games in Nordic countries and have always felt Sweden slightly harder than Norway for some reason. That is even I understand Swedish better than Norwegian language.
Also, just for the people who don’t know. Scandinavia is Norway, Sweden and Denmark and the nordics are Scandinavia+ Iceland and Finland.
4:10 i live in Leksand😅
both sagmyra and molndal was visible on your map but you didnt spend enough time looking at it.
The reason you wated so much time on the last is because you started looking in the north thinking those hills were mountains. You should have looked at the trees, which were mostly deciduos forest (trees with leafs) and not coniferous, like pine and firs. That woiuld have clued you in sooner it was more to the south
Im from Sweden and how you pronunced Norrköping
Here I am in Mörarp. 😅
You are really butchering Swedish pronounciation 🤣
why would there be a sign IN sollefteå telling you what direction to drive to get TO sollefteå?? like what was the thought process my guy
Try looking for a store like ica or a train station
2:09 ya you said it wrong I know that Because I'm from Sweden
It was frustrating watching you look after Lindome, when Lindome was in the middle of the map, all you had to do was zoom in just a little bit
i live in lindome and im so angry right now!
WTF mörarp mention lets go ?!!?
bro went past my hairdresser thats so awesome
Scandinavia: Sweden, Denmark, Norway.
The 5 nordic countries: Sweden, Denmark Norway, Finland, Iceland.
Scandinavia is a mountain range in Sweden and norway😑
@XxavokadoxX scandinavia is a geographical area which includes Sweden, norway, and Denmark.. norway and Sweden are on the scandinavian peninsula. What you're referring to is the scandes.
You got kinda screwed on the Lindome part. No idea why the name didn't pop up xd
Iv'e been at the ica in påarp lol
hi from sollefteå!
hi!
Bustigen 😂
Its pronounced Boo (stee-gen)
Bu = Boo
Stigen = Path
