- I’m taking a look at the tech predictions of the past that we thought would be our future - and in particular robots. I cast an eye back to the toy robots of the 60s, 70s, and 80s and some of the movies that spawned them. And along the way I talk to UrAvgConsumer and Chris Gethard.

i was definitely looking for this, not disappointed
Nyeah but that roast was scripted by a human and one of the things the robot toy was programmed to say when someone gets a wrong answer
His facial expression said it all.
I thought he said "Anther" (A part of flower)
My uncle had an Omnibot a long time ago that he took with him to work and it would always get in peoples way and they'd say "Get out of the way, dammit". As a result, the Omnibot was given the name "Dammit".

I'm surprised Boston dynamics was not even mentioned.. or shown.. they were premierely known for pushing boundaries of robotics with the self balancing dog and stuff.

as i was going to point out anyway, HAL wasn't a robot it was a computer.
@@michaeljeacock The entire space ship was a robot and Hal was the brain, just like every single robot in existence. Robots don't have to look like and mimic humans or dogs. A robot can be one metallic arm in a factory, it can be a ship or a car. What you mean is that Hall is not an humanoid robot.

Wow, thanks for giving AIBO some love! Me and so many other people are so passionate about these little robot doggies. They truly were ahead of their time and still are, aiding as a simple companion for people young and old. They have such amazing personalities and attention built into every single one of them so that no two are alike, and it’s sad that such a thing isn’t often appreciated in the wild. The AIBO community cheers on that “dope” rating

This is bout retro tech. Boston dynamic is relatively new. So
@@s.sangma9850 actually in the end mkb was talking about humanoid robots, that's why I thought he missed Hanson Robotics' Sophia. In relative comparison, it's been around 5 years since her development.
And yes, Boston dynamics's Spot is relatively very new.
You and your team should be really proud of this series. I've been watching you forever and this is one of your best work so far.

I had the robotics kit form the 80's as well. I actual used pieces of the old kit inside a stuffed rabbit to make it animatronic for my first film. Loving these videos. Such a trip down memory lane for me.

Someone who wants to make have something cool and technologically advanced
Someone who wants a slave (doing their simple work for free)
And someone who feels lonely or doesn’t like socialising with humans
and someone who wants to make it piss beer
Or someone who wants something bad out of it..think robot bombs, peeping robots etc etc

I for sure thought you would bring up Pepper and Smart Robot Lawrence. We got one for a school lab we facilitate so the kids can learn coding. Dude does dancing, responding, and all. Great content, I'm loving this series. 😊

This is so cool! I am a robotics engineer. Today's consumer robots are nothing like what we imagined they would be in the 80s. They are less human like and more application oriented like autonomous cars, drones and vacuum cleaners. It is cool to see that the pop culture inspired the next generation of engineers to build something completely different but useful.

When talking about ABBs industrial robot and how they could live among humans, Ironman's robots can be seen as examples, where they do what Tony Stark asks Jarvis to do.

I remember seeing so many of these in old books about robotics as a child. It's such a nostalgia trip.
Which is weird because most of these were from before I was born.
I'm loving this series! Only criticism is that I wish editing extended more of the segments with Marques playing with the old tech. I wanted to see more of him interacting with R.O.B., or more of the robot assembly with UrAvgConsumer. Basically, I just want more Retro Tech!

Interesting how the Hero Robot was shown as B-Roll when it COULD do all the things the other robots were said to be able to do but could not, including using its arm, to open a fridge, grab a beer and bring it back to the user..sorta like how the Treo 650 could do twice as many times more thing than the original Iphone 2 years before it:)
