Mother is actually a song written and composed in collaboration between Susumu Hirasawa and Yuko Miyamura, the voice actress of Asuka from Evangelion, possibly inspired by that role or several she did at the time. There's a version of it sang by her too. Hirasawa worked on several projects, which eventually rose him to fame thanks to the composition works and licensing of his work for cult anime like Berserk and Paprika.

なので「母」は宇宙規模の何か壮大な存在のことと考えられます
