Thanks Blair, info and little side trips like this is what I was suggesting before. We all have the tendency to take for granted the things around us and forget that others out there might be interested. I've been at this place and seen this, it affected me very much ! Thanks for sharing and take care.
Shame on you Blair, I mean that as a joke, of course. Thanks for sharing. One of the things I like about you channel is you take the time to count the growth rings of the trees you cut down. Only time and sunlight make a tree. On that note, one of my neighbors cut down a palm tree, it was easily over 70 years old. There are companies who would have paid him thousands of dollars for that tree, removed it, and sold it to a developer for a profit.
Thx, I grew up there in FB and spent my childhood exploring the old logging roads and railbeds/train trestles. Beautiful place and lots of hidden history if you know where to look.
I love all the old photo's ( plates ), images and history of bygone days. I can't explain it, but it really tugs at my Spirit......if that makes any sense.
The kerf of the saw seems increasingly small. Where is this on the GPS as my wife would ask. We go thru your area at least one a year. The trees are falling at the memorial areas in Sacrenento very sad. Thank you for sharing.
I would suspect that right now in Mendincino County mighty redwood trees stand, are well protected and eventually, given time, larger living trees will exist. I do not see any harm that in 1943, this tree provided people with a needed commodity.
John Asumaa thanks John. Different times, different attitudes. I would bet that most people didn't think twice about these logging operations as anything more than business as usual.
This supports support my theory that people died young in those days because they were tired! Just think of the weight these guys were dealing with. Did you go to the show?

Ken Gamble glad you enjoyed this. Because I live with giant Redwoods, I tend to take them for granted

Fascinating!
Cliff Warmoth for me too. Ahh, chainsaws. I'm truly spoiled!
Yeah, I like to think I'm tough, then I see old time logger pictures. About as tough as a 3 month old compared to those guys.
it's funny how he says it fell more like they cut
Is there a non-destructive method of counting growth rings?
Yes, you take a core sample
