    In my opinion, Deadwood is the best written show in the history of the TV. It's that fucking good!

    I want to learn to speak like this so bad. I’d pay to take a class. The ability to insult someone so politely is a talent all men should have.

    • @ijustgottasaythis
      @ijustgottasaythis ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It would take a bit more than a tuitioned "class" to use this kind of dialogue in daily social intercourse. A multi-faceted vocabulary is necessary, and this would require years of practice conversing like this with persons of that ilk. Unfortunately, it is rare to hear speeches like this today. I understand your thoughts tho, and think it IS so cool to "insult" others with blistering rubuke, as Wolcott does to Cy at 2:08 and on. Just magical how he literally calls Toliver's skillful attempt at "blackmail & manipulation" ... "a fatuous belief"... or how he states that Hearst already knows "of my inclinations" and lies to Cy saying, Mr Hearst finds them "immaterial"...just brilliant. Tolliver tattles on him to Hearst anyway... What a neat show! I miss it.

      Go to Britain, japan or the south of the USA and you will hear such insults, difference is a gesture or a mere word or two will accomplish the same feat. The wordiness of the characters here was normal for the time and culture -- it would be difficult to speak with the same vocabulary today because it would confuse people in most modern cultural contexts. most people would assume you're attempting some sort of parody or going out of your way to be condescending

      To be fair Wolcott has a history of killing women...the thing is the threat of Cy knowing his secret causes him to try and clean up any evidence (the girls who have seen him) in order to not embarrass Hearst or let Hearst know what he is.

    I 1st saw him in Red Dawn when l was about 5 when it was on vhs. He was a fighter pilot that was shot down but survived and let the wolverines know what was happening . He embodied what a Real Man should be in many ways. He was awesome. But obviously l didnt know him. Great Actor IMO. I felt a lose when l heard he passed. It means were getting older. Im 42 and its getn faster everyday,time that is. Cherish time with who you love. God Bless Everyone. We all need the help in everyway these days. When it seems theres no more good guys. I feel that way these days. We all live in a world of shit these days.

      People didn't talk like Shakespeare writes when Shakespeare was alive,- nobody ever did; it's called elevated diction. It is characteristic to plays but here you see it applied to a modern TV show, which is a large part of its genius and originality. Listen to the syllable count and note that most of the dialogue in this show is in Iambic pentameter.

    Shouldn't Tolliver have made this play before he signed over the titles? Otherwise, it seems like Wolcott would have just had Tolliver killed.

    Did Cy run him off because he knew he'd go to Joanie's? When she went into business for herself it killed Cy.

    • @mckenzie.latham91
      @mckenzie.latham91 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      More like he despises Wolcott and wants to embarrass him, but Wolcott realizing that Cy knows his secrets tries to clean up the evidence so cy can't tell Hearst.

      Shawni, I haven't seen in couple years but I thought bc Joanie was only one he loved he was proud of her for having own business. Maybe mixed feelings but he let her go. That's love.
