Thanks man, this video helped me a TON! I have a 2001 bear tracker. Thank you for not skimming over the process, but actually talk about everything you are doing while you are doing it! Keep it up!
after watching your videos, i rebuit my carb using a kit from ebay $30, cleaned it all out, replaced gasket, the thing halls ass now, no more leaky leaky leaky
Great video..When I used to rebuild carb's (before fuel injection) I would dismantle it in a used pizza box. That way no tiny parts can roll off of the workbench, and when you reassemble it, the box should be empty..If not, you can see exactly which parts you forgot...
after you put it all back togather you blew threw it. Very cool trcik for testing it before you put it all back togather.!! very glad i watched this video.
I found your video most helpful but I have a question about where all of the hoses in the cluster go. I really hate having things disconnected or misplaced. Can you please with this?
I have a 2002 Yamaha bear tracker that I did a carburetor rebuild on and it cranks right up but runs wide open. The throttle I know for a fact isnt in the closed position
Hi I've been having problems with the carburetor on my 2001 Bear Tracker. It likes to die unless I'm on the throttle and dies when idling to low. Also it likes to die when I give it to much throttle at top speed. The throttle response seems much slower than usual. I was wondering what you think the problem maybe?? Thank you!
Thank you !! I have a 2003 Yamaha Bear Tracker and it's running a bit rough... I'm going to have to do the same thing.. I think its pretty close to the same carburetor ///
I am having trouble with my carb. I purchased a new carb. It has been installed with new air intake hoses. It starts fine, idols fine, but for some reason when I throttle up it bogs down. I do not see an air/fuel adjustment. As I mentioned earlier the carb is brand new and doesn’t need cleaning. I have also replaced the fuel lines. I am certain there is no trash or anything clogging the Jets. I assumed it needs to have the fuel/air adjusted.
Hi, great video. The one thing I cant seem to find a video of is how to set the float level. Can you explain it and what should the height be at? I have a 99 beartracker 250.. Thank you much
If you haven't touched/messed with the float lever tab there should be no reason to ever adjust it. Some have a little metal tab on the float arm that's adjustable some are solid plastic under non-adjustable. If you do need to adjust it generally I follow this procedure. With the carb upside down put your mouth or put your mouth on a hose connected to the fuel inlet. Lift a float up and blow. Slowly lower the float until all air is stopped. This is your float level. If you have a needle/seat without a spring in the back the float should sit about level. If the needle has a spring tip the float should sit about level with the spring completely compressed but will shut off fuel flow/air from you mouth at a higher angle.
With the bowl off... Flip carb upside down. Float should be level with port openings. The bowl, and the port openings aren't inline. Be sure the float is level with the port openings. If it isn't. Bend that lil tan slightly until the float lines up with the port openings. Simple. 🤘
I was going to ask you. When removing my carburetor, the gas in there had almost like tiny balls of jelly, which I looked up and read that it is because of the ethanol in gas nowadays but how can I get rid of it in my fuel system on my ATV? If I just empty the fuel tank and run new gas through it, will this clean it out?
Good vid,,im going to take my carb back off for the umteenth time and try again as mine idles and runs perfect at mid throttle,,however at full throttle bucks cuts out,,kinda like it hitting the rev limiter but is not...New plug going to check for a restriction in the muffler..Im about to give up on mine,,,and use the thing for target practice for my new 45...
What would cause a Bear Tracker to not run when the hose is connected from the air box to the back of the carb? It runs fine without it with it on it just wont idle.
If everything is spotless and the unit has a new spark plug, I would look at the engine compression. Too low of compression will cause bogging. If new jets were installed there is a chance that they are bigger and the engine could be getting too much fuel. Plugged up air filters can cause too much fuel. Along with the needle the slides in and out when you accelerate if you moved it. Take a look at the spark plug after you try tto run it and if it is getting black there is too much fuel.
I just got a new carb for my bear tracker and as soon as you turn it on the rpms climb to full throttle. Cable is fine. If I put my hand over the air intake it will come back down but as soon as I take my hand away it jumps right back up. Any ideas?
Hey I was wondering I have a 99 yamaha bear tracker 250 I've gone to the carb starts runs idols perfect I was just wondering what time the power your house seems like mine have a huge like a power I have a 86 honda trx 200 that has way more power then the yamaha I take the valves andrea just all those everything is good but it seems like it still has a huge lack of power any ideas
Thanks for posting this video, it's extremely helpful. I had a question. are there any downsides to using an ultrasonic cleaner to clean the carb/jets out. I was thinking of using carb cleaner and possibly running the carb for a cycle or two in my ultrasonic cleaner just to get it clean in areas I might not be able to get to. Any harm in that in your opinion? Thanks in advance.
That's a tricky one. You can attach a basic coiled spring to make it return or make a custom spring. Chances are you're not going to find an exact replacement.
Yeah I know I don't know how many hours are on it I've only had it for a few months got it not running because it needed a new stator installed which I did do you have any idea what the compression should be on this model I have a compression tester it seems like it has really good compression I had the plug out and put my finger over it while turning it over seems like it pops pretty good
The hose that connects to the carb near the top above the fuel line, yours looks clear, where does that line go? I took in a 2001 Beartracker that some drunk took apart and I got it all back together except for that one line. I bought a new hose but can not find where or what it connects to.
You should have a fuel overflow that attaches to the bottom of the carb and just freely hangs out the bottom and a bowl vent that attaches towards the mid/top and routes up around the gas tank and connects to nothing.
Got a question about the boot from carb to intake. Is there supposed to be two clamps on this? Mine just has one on carb and end of boot at engine has none...it just fits, but moves around. Is this normal?
No clamp. It's plastic welded. They suck ass. Always cracking and breaking. Yamaha screwed up on this design. Remove it altogether. Buy a cheap china carb with a real intake manifold. Buy a choke cable too. I hate that bear tracker carb, and intake manifold. Look at the timberwolf design. Copy that on yours. Trust me. Much simpler
It's not as easy for me to put that throttle cable as it seemed to be for you..seems like there is not enough slack on the line for me to get it on there..i suck at this...
Compression fine, if i cover hole where air cleaner goes partially with my hand, runs fine, revs up, but remove hand, and Boggs down when i give it gas. Checked carb again, all jets clean. Same sizes. Could it be main jet off diaphragm.? Really stumped.
jdp6ofus That shows that it isn't getting enough fuel. You doing the same thing as choke by covering it partially. If your diaphragm is ripped or not sealing(9:45 part 1) it wont allow the metering rod to slide up and dump fuel in the engine. It is tapered and the further it goes up the more fuel it gives the engine. You'll notice towards the end of part 2 I blow into it and the rod moves up (11:55). You didn't remove the metering rod from the diaphragm during cleaning did you?
i watched your videos, very helpful but I seemed to have broke my idle cable on my 1986 Suzuki 250 quad runner and I cant idle it down.. do you know of anyway I can idle it down? pls help
looking for parts for my bear tracker any leads guy need help need drive shaft and rear brake backing plate, a seat ,front brush guard..looking for help or people to buy from...thanks
sixtyfiveford I am from Mexico and I have a yamaha bear tracker thing is that the carburetor strip Gasoline bottom where the carburetor where the float apart once went to a mechanic is going and they told me that the carburetor is calibrated is esprias I do not know if you can help my problem Besides pulling gasoline da explosions as the carburetor air passes more and drowns and not turned back on apart the engine is not heard even due to carburation be because they are not calibrated the ESPRIA or are missing any piesas greetings from mexico

Great. I'm glad it helped.
after watching your videos, i rebuit my carb using a kit from ebay $30, cleaned it all out, replaced gasket, the thing halls ass now, no more leaky leaky leaky
Thanks buddy. Your video helped me out so much. First time I ever tried to do this on a carb and worked perfect due to your detailed instruction!
+Bear Knuckles That's great. I'm glad the video helped.
This video was exactly what I’ve been looking for. Not sure if it’s the carb that’s the issue or the fuel filter but this is a good start
99% of the time, run issues with these is a dirty carb.
Thanks. I hope you get you machine back up and running smooth.
Great video..When I used to rebuild carb's (before fuel injection) I would dismantle it in a used pizza box. That way no tiny parts can roll off of the workbench, and when you reassemble it, the box should be empty..If not, you can see exactly which parts you forgot...
A lot of issues are related to the carb. Fouled spark plugs and old gas contribute to running problems. Thanks for watching.
Awesome. You are now a Carb Tech...
Push the accelerator piston/slide down into the carb. If it won't go down make sure it is aligned properly.
Great videos. They were a great help. I still haven't got it running quite right but at least it will crank and stay on now. Keep up the good work!
Awesome... You are now a pro.
after you put it all back togather you blew threw it. Very cool trcik for testing it before you put it all back togather.!! very glad i watched this video.
I found your video most helpful but I have a question about where all of the hoses in the cluster go. I really hate having things disconnected or misplaced. Can you please with this?
Most of the hoses are simply air vents and go nowhere.
sixtyfiveford thank you
Hoses from brake vents, and rear diff vent.
They just hang freely, open at the base of the gas tank
I have a 2002 Yamaha bear tracker that I did a carburetor rebuild on and it cranks right up but runs wide open. The throttle I know for a fact isnt in the closed position
I mean it is in the closed position. Appreciate any advice you could give me.
The throttle cable is more than likely just hung up.
Yes youre right I figured that out not long after I posted this. I had the damn brass peace on the end of the throttle cable upside down lol. Thanks!
Thank you!
Could be as simple as a fouled spark plug or as serious as low engine compression. But to me it sounds like a simple dirty carburetor.
Thank you very much. You did a great job.
You're welcome.
Thank you !! I have a 2003 Yamaha Bear Tracker and it's running a bit rough... I'm going to have to do the same thing.. I think its pretty close to the same carburetor ///
Yeah, the carbs are very similar.

Take your air filter out and leave the top of the box off. Mine does the same thing
Hello. I'm new to this.I have a 2000 Yamaha bear tracker that won't start I want to do the rite steps to getting her running
Hi, great video. The one thing I cant seem to find a video of is how to set the float level. Can you explain it and what should the height be at? I have a 99 beartracker 250.. Thank you much

Yep, just let it run out of the fuel line (set fuel lever to reserve) and put a little e-free gas in.
I would think your main jet is partially clogged with your symptoms.
What would cause a Bear Tracker to not run when the hose is connected from the air box to the back of the carb? It runs fine without it with it on it just wont idle.
Plugged up air filter possibly.
Do you know what would cause carb to bog down after rebuild? Idles fine, but bogs down when you give it gas. Great video
jdp6ofus It's not getting enough gas through the main jet. It is gummed up/partially plugged.
sixtyfiveford I'm having the same problem, though I installed new jets and the such, and cleaned out the passages super well.
If everything is spotless and the unit has a new spark plug, I would look at the engine compression. Too low of compression will cause bogging.

Wolfesscythe117 the engine may need the valves adjusted.
Turned out to be that the new air filter was allowing it too much air. That, and the colder air was causing it to run lean.
I just got a new carb for my bear tracker and as soon as you turn it on the rpms climb to full throttle. Cable is fine. If I put my hand over the air intake it will come back down but as soon as I take my hand away it jumps right back up. Any ideas?

pattersonbrl No harm.
Hey man what os the clear orange hose on the top of the carb where is that supposed to go?
Is it possible to rebuild the throttle return spring on one of these carbs? Mine has rusted and broke and I cant find anything on fixing that
That's a tricky one. You can attach a basic coiled spring to make it return or make a custom spring. Chances are you're not going to find an exact replacement.
What are the adjustments for the idle screw and fuel screw?? I have an 01, just cleaned the carb but it still won't idle!!
You just turn the idle screw until the rpms are stable. The fuel screw is around 2 turns, but is not exact as this changes with altitude.
Yeah I know I don't know how many hours are on it I've only had it for a few months got it not running because it needed a new stator installed which I did do you have any idea what the compression should be on this model I have a compression tester it seems like it has really good compression I had the plug out and put my finger over it while turning it over seems like it pops pretty good
At least 120psi.
Ideally 145psi

Got a question about the boot from carb to intake. Is there supposed to be two clamps on this? Mine just has one on carb and end of boot at engine has none...it just fits, but moves around. Is this normal?
+Bear Knuckles I can't recall. If it has a flat area for a clamp it wouldn't hurt to put one on.
+Bear Knuckles I have one and had to replace the peice from head to carb it is molded to the flange with two bolts its not supposed to move,

No clamp.

gettng the throttle cable seated in the carb was the most difficult last time...then i watched this video and not its smooth like butter.

where r u located? I'm in Maryland and need my bear tracker carb rebuit and don't feel comfy doing it myself..thanks..
is that wd40 of carb cleaner your using ??
+Mr1002brady I just like to use the nozzle off the WD40 can. It sprays a ton nicer than the stock nozzle on carb cleaner.
K THANK YOU
Pizza box, that's a good idea.
looking for parts for my bear tracker any leads guy need help need drive shaft and rear brake backing plate, a seat ,front brush guard..looking for help or people to buy from...thanks
+Mr1002brady Ebay is your best bet on used parts like these.
@tosainu1 Sorry, but I'm on the other side of the country.

+Matthew Adams If it has a lot of hours on it, the engine compression could be low. This will cause a lack of power.
