Mama’s boy, here. Had no ties, dependents, debt, and had a terminal leave balance. Stayed with my folks for a year, and continued attending college. Another type is the “no plan Stan”. Gets out, has no idea what to do next, doesn’t have supportive family, just goes from job to job, and never takes advantage of their GI Bill.
I was a highly technical dude on the submarine, but wasn't a nuke. I was definitely the countdown king and Benny guru before getting out. I have to go do something school related now (using that GI Bill benny) else I'd just chill today 😅

From all you know now... both from the inside of the Navy, and 'real' life outside... would you now tell your younger self (18 years old, or when you signed up) to make the Navy your life... to stay and not leave until you were 40 or something, and THEN start a life ourside?
I joined later in life, and on my second contract right now. I would say like anything in life, it's a cost-benefit analysis. I intended on getting out after the first contract, but trying to knock out more college before I get out and help my wife get her degree as well. I've noticed that from my experience the people who want out the most sometimes regret it and the people most gung-ho about staying in get out and live well in the civilian world. You never know what your mindset and the worlds situation will be in years time. Idk what prompted your question, but try and keep as many doors open as possible and continue improving yourself (Not just your job) and you will do wel.
