Best Rel that i have had was a Strata 3 subwoofer ,
Beter than the t5x that i now have .
It had a expansive efortless sound that was way more musical with music

Interesting review. Can I suggest that perhaps as part of this review that you consider playing some music with the daniel hertz system you now have to demo how it sounds with and without the REL sub in play. Sure the sound quality oin youtube is not perfect but it will give us a chance to better understanding the points you made in this review.

im in the UK and bought a stadium 2 for one room and a strata 3 for the smaller room, this new sub looks just like the strata3. its a great sounding sub indeed! before I bought these I remember the founder of REL doing a demo at the Bristol hifi show of his various units, stadium, stentor and strata. this was at a time when folk didn't really use subs on their systems.

Just ignore Re's AVR setup. Plus PEQ is recommended with a subwoofer.

My REL T7/i provides tuneful, tight bass for my vintage (looking) Heresy 4 and LS3/5As. I'm never going back to the woolly sound of the '70s when I couldn't hear vocals clearly and records had no bass or treble unless I cranked up the tone controls 😅.

      That's not a sub it's bass module. 8" ? Waste of time.

For a high WAF sub this might be perfect. It seems like it could actually work as a side table…

Forget the Kef KC-62 I've been contemplating as a minimalist decor friendly solution. At 18.5 in high the Rel 98 would be the perfect side table I've been looking for. If I'm lucky my girlfriend won't notice that yet another piece of dreaded audio gear has entered the house.

Has anyone heard of BK Electronic Subs, they are based in England and used to make subs for Rel. I wonder if their subs sound like this new old Rel. BK Subs are quite a bit cheaper too and have the same high level inputs.

    • @WeeWeeJumbo

The driver orientation doesn’t matter at all, I run three different systems with six different subs, half of them fire down, half forward, orientation isn’t the difference maker.
