Sitting in my new residence in Dublin, Ireland right now, and seeing Wolfpack sinking Allied ships off the coast of Dublin City in a parallel time line, what a night :)
The name of the ship was "Henry Dunant", not Durant. She's named after the swiss who founded the Red Cross, which is a pretty apt name for carrying medical equipment.
In case you don't know, the UZO and the observation periscope has a filter for night operations. On the type VII that is. I'm not sure about the type II. It's much easier to find targets at night that way. It's on the upper center of the screen. A circle on the right of those 2 arrows pointing at each other.
While you cant board them, you can signal them that you intend to sink the ship, with them either just keeping the evasive manouvers or evacuating the ship leaving it abandoned for you to shoot
If you sink a ship in shallow water you can loot their cargo hold.. they have gold bars . Rubber coal. But you need dive helmet and extra storage space mod. It's open season sinking ships in shallows a gold mine lol..
26:30 but Wolfpack, for Germans/Swiss, a “cold welcome” is a warm welcome. A warm welcome would make a German/Swiss feel uneasy. I would say, it is 100% accurate to repay the cold welcome with a bureaucratic search of the entire ship.
Was recently patrolling off Ireland myself in my own game, Atlantic coast not the Irish sea, and I came across a very peculiar sight. I'm Irish, so seeing an Irish PT boat patrolling around as a neutral military vessel was strange. Got into a drag race with it on the surface for fun and round up outrunning it on the surface.
Wolfpack. I live on the North east coast of Ireland. There's an old church there with the bodies of three U-boat men. The rest were lost at sea and went down with the boat. History is never far away. They were on a return from Belfast when the boat went down.
I found one of the most effective ways to save torpedoes has been giving a Mech officer the skill that allows them to scuttle a ship without explosives. As long as you are able to board the ship and prove it's not neutral if it's under a false flag, it's a freebie.
Wolfpack, just a hint, if you use the periscope in these dark nights even on teh surface, you can use the special lenses for more contrast and here in TH-cam that helps a lot with the visibility
Wait, they said they're going to Lisbon, but they're traveling Northeast in the Irish Sea? I think maybe a little more suspicion may have been warranted.

Check the inventory after an inspection even if your crew reports nothing was found. Hello Wolfpack. I play this as well, non-upgraded Type IIA on 100% realism. Two things to point out: - You can only board freighters. The tanker was a... tanker, thus unboardable. I don't think there is in-game reason for that, maybe the devs didn't have the time to do the interior models. - Using the 20mm AA-gun to sink vessels is possible. That calibre guns were used as anti-tank guns which could penetrate rolled homogenous armor-hardened steel. It definitely can penetrate salt-water marinated construction steel of a cargo ship. Load the AP ammo and dump few magazines at waterline. I got the 87200 (or something) achievement this way during my 31 day patrol with the Type IIA.
Omg traffic home sucked today but at least now I can finally watch Wolfpack decimate convoys on the high seas like I've been wanting to for an hour and a half since my day ended! Worth it ❤🍻

You can't board tankers at all - I guess since the cargo is always oil (or sailboat fuel). British ships can be asked to abandon ship. There was a recent patch that reduced small arms damage to freighters, so it doesn't seem as viable for manned vessels as it once was Also, while you don't yet have a navigator to confirm if their course is sus, you can absolutely have a look and see if it makes sense for there. Like if a freighter was heading north in the Irish Sea and said it was heading for Lisbon. You only get penalised if they're ACTUALLY neutral A note if you go so far as to get to Southern Routes campaign, they only count for the campaign objective if you search the cargo BEFORE interrogating the captain, and only ships you catch in the target squares. Achieving the tonnage goal does not wipe the squares though, you can continue to inspect freighters in the mission's squares after completing your tonnage/km goal
