UBOAT is a new Submarine Simulator that just Surfaced out of early access. It is a survival sandbox with crew management mechanics while its primary theme is life of German sailors. The boat is their home, but it can become their grave at any time.
In UBOAT you control the crew in order to control the boat. You look after their physical and mental health, because if the sailors are hungry, tired and their spirit is low, there’s no chance of winning even a skirmish.
Sitting in my new residence in Dublin, Ireland right now, and seeing Wolfpack sinking Allied ships off the coast of Dublin City in a parallel time line, what a night :)
The name of the ship was "Henry Dunant", not Durant. She's named after the swiss who founded the Red Cross, which is a pretty apt name for carrying medical equipment.
nice detail
Wolfpack: "Give'em some supplies". Gives raw potatoes to the men in lifeboat 🤣
When i used to peel spuds with my dad, we’d always eat a few slices with a little salt. Good times.
>goes to Ireland
>give the crews a bunch of fresh, uncooked potatoes
What did Wolfpack mean by this?
@@ruriofthetonovillage5136 wouldn't want them having another famine, would we?
Worse than that - they're dried potatoes. You can actually eat raw potatoes... if you're hungry enough. Dried ones, not so much.
12:15 To bring a ship to a stop with the AA gun, you have to shoot the tires. :D
Really placating the sailors by distributing POTATOES in the IRISH sea there Wolfie! Legend has it some may never have seen one in their lifetime! 🥔
It also made me giggle! POTATO! 🥔
Here have some Potato's on a life-raft. They could always try eating them raw ;-)
26:30 but Wolfpack, for Germans/Swiss, a “cold welcome” is a warm welcome. A warm welcome would make a German/Swiss feel uneasy. I would say, it is 100% accurate to repay the cold welcome with a bureaucratic search of the entire ship.
While you cant board them, you can signal them that you intend to sink the ship, with them either just keeping the evasive manouvers or evacuating the ship leaving it abandoned for you to shoot
if they abandon it then you can board it and scuttle it
For some reason you can do that only to freighters, you can't interact with tankers. Hopefully they change that soon.
If you sink a ship in shallow water you can loot their cargo hold.. they have gold bars . Rubber coal. But you need dive helmet and extra storage space mod. It's open season sinking ships in shallows a gold mine lol..
In case you don't know, the UZO and the observation periscope has a filter for night operations. On the type VII that is. I'm not sure about the type II. It's much easier to find targets at night that way. It's on the upper center of the screen. A circle on the right of those 2 arrows pointing at each other.
Wolfpack. I live on the North east coast of Ireland. There's an old church there with the bodies of three U-boat men. The rest were lost at sea and went down with the boat. History is never far away. They were on a return from Belfast when the boat went down.
I found one of the most effective ways to save torpedoes has been giving a Mech officer the skill that allows them to scuttle a ship without explosives. As long as you are able to board the ship and prove it's not neutral if it's under a false flag, it's a freebie.
Before you get that upgrade, always viable to either carry dynamite or just shoot the boat with deck gun or flak gun
The last ship: "heading to port of lisbon" yeah... i don't think the port of lisbon is that way...
Check the inventory after an inspection even if your crew reports nothing was found. I've never once been told by my officers conducting the search that they found something and when I check what was in the inventory there's tons of contraband. This ship that you inspected was more than likely headed to enemy port and if you had clicked the "view cargo" option after the inspection you would with a 99% certainty have found contraband. You just let a ship slip through skipper!
This is one of several aspects in the game that has yet to be adressed. I thought it would be after full release but it is not.
Nice video and some good game play.
As others have said, they were heading north aka the opposite from Lisbon. That ship sure was sus, Wolf should’ve poked holes with his AA gun after ordering evacuation.
The crew will tell you when they find contraband too. Counterintuitively, it works best if you searchm, then interrogate. And look at their cargo, sometimes they lyin
@@Nighthunter6666 what's the consequence for sinking an unconfirmed target?
@@Nighthunter6666 Sinking a neutral ship causes an international scandal that makes Germany look bad.
Game wise you will loose progress towards your next skill/reputation point. You may even loose a point(s).
@@Nighthunter6666 Ships in convoys are always fair game.
And, as you say, if your crew screw it up, but they're still obviously going to the UK, they;re free tonnage
Was recently patrolling off Ireland myself in my own game, Atlantic coast not the Irish sea, and I came across a very peculiar sight.
I'm Irish, so seeing an Irish PT boat patrolling around as a neutral military vessel was strange. Got into a drag race with it on the surface for fun and round up outrunning it on the surface.
Wolfpack, just a hint, if you use the periscope in these dark nights even on teh surface, you can use the special lenses for more contrast and here in TH-cam that helps a lot with the visibility
yes please ... TH-cam is really dark..indeed
Wait, they said they're going to Lisbon, but they're traveling Northeast in the Irish Sea? I think maybe a little more suspicion may have been warranted.
Happens alot in my game, do you know what happens if u sink them anyway because their Destination doesnt make any sense?
@@ArmaCookieBdU never complained to me
@@ArmaCookie normally bdu will know it was a false flag, I had one incident where a freighter was heading northeast to British isles in French waters (the opposite direction) but supposedly they were going to port of vigo and it was a neutral vessel and caused an incident. The consequences in this game seems to be very minor regardless
If he'd taken an officer with the right skill, he could have called them on that.
@@ArmaCookie If the destination port is not correct you are allowed to sink it.
Hello Wolfpack. I play this as well, non-upgraded Type IIA on 100% realism. Two things to point out:
- You can only board freighters. The tanker was a... tanker, thus unboardable. I don't think there is in-game reason for that, maybe the devs didn't have the time to do the interior models.
- Using the 20mm AA-gun to sink vessels is possible. That calibre guns were used as anti-tank guns which could penetrate rolled homogenous armor-hardened steel. It definitely can penetrate salt-water marinated construction steel of a cargo ship. Load the AP ammo and dump few magazines at waterline. I got the 87200 (or something) achievement this way during my 31 day patrol with the Type IIA.
May i suggest 1 hour videos for this playthrough? This game is very cinematic and immersive and you do it quite well, it would be very fitting. Maybe a poll?
Yeah I’d like to see more of a long play style
He, he, he... raw potatoes so that the survivors can throw them at the departing submarine.
That's typical British humor.
I love this new series so much... You make the cuts perfectly timed as well for when more action occurs.
Omg traffic home sucked today but at least now I can finally watch Wolfpack decimate convoys on the high seas like I've been wanting to for an hour and a half since my day ended!
Worth it ❤🍻
I think it's dumb you need an officer with the navigation trait in the group, to state the obvious fact that they were not traveling to Lisbon xD.
You can also use your own judgement; this ship was most definitely not traveling to Lisbon (it was heading north); so sinking it was legit.
@@OzoneGrif This is a feature I appreciate. The game doesn't force you to prove obvious lies, it instead allows for you to make the final determination using your gut.
@@Vipre- Yes! Sometimes it is not as obvious. This one was very easy.
@@OzoneGrif Yeah I know, it still feels weird, why not give me the option to just lie too without the perk. I know you can just order them to abandon ship anyway, but RP wise, it feels a bit off to have the interaction behind a perk.
It would feel better if the perk tells you that this might be true/false ex. the interaction he had using the merchant perk would say "this would be a lie and the ship's captain might catch this bold lie" meaning otherwise you just gamble (semi-) blindly.
@@Vipre- Yeah I like that too, but I rarely go onto ships when I catch them like this, I just torp directly and BdU tells me later "yeah they were going to obvious English port xyz".
Nothing like me going on a standard patrol only to encounter an 8 ship strong convoy composed entirely of warships, and there was also a plane overhead as well.
Always bring a navigator when boarding ships.
That freighter was very clearly heading towards the english coast. Fair game! 😂
Should bring a navigator next time. 🙂
Just FYI, tankers are ALWAYS fair game, regardless wich flag they're flying and can't be stopped or boarded. 🙂
You can use the scroll wheel when interacting with the TDC for finer adjustments
Just a thought but a very impressive DLC from the devs would be to command a Gato class in the pacific anyways keep putting uboat stuff love to see it
that would basically be a separate game content-wise.
@@mathiasrryba Agreed, they have a ready-made sequel audience.
Last time I hit that port there were 2 older gun boats 4 destroyer's and 2 torpedo boats I also love how rarely you can run up on some merchant ships and if there American they have a chance to have hidden guns to fight with
Another excellent episode of "Das Wolfpack"
Holy crap, that ship snapped off at the front!
Ah yes the famous Zurich port in the Pacific while heading north claiming to go to Lisbon. Let me guess, the crew also has british names once you force them to evacuate to life rafts and will complain about the not so overcast weather. Keep calm and rohr eins, Los.
Switzerland actually had merchant ships operating to Rotterdam so they are not all false flags. Also funnily enough the base game only has names for German, Anglos, and maybe French sailors so everyone is always going to be named like that with a name list mod
@@sdem9 I thought they mostly had foreign oil tankers imports? Well I guess it makes sense that some swiss would purchase various ships and rights to operate from various ports for lucrative activities but still. Everytime I see them, especially them being some of the most neutral nation in history, near the islands, my brain screams "SUS".
Also I saw polish and scandinavian names at some point I think? Scandinavian for sure because the norwegians kept trading with the brits at the beginning of the war which sparks some diplomatic tensions with us the german uboats. What I never saw so far is contraband while inspecting the cargo hold.
Wolfpack is by far the best u-boat commander
I've watched a couple of other streamers try their hand at this game ... After Wolfpack it's a joke ...
I love the game using my 400 rounds deck gun I take out a whole convoy lol
XL Jedi is better,100% realism. He also does easy to understand tutorials.
Loving the new u-boat content. Your my favorite utube channel Wolfpack and I'm really enjoying the type 2 sub game play. looking forward to many more hours of game play & then the upgrades to the type 7 and type 9 submarines. Keep up the great work and thank you very much 👏
God I love these U-boat vids! A nice haul of tonnage there Wolfie!
Potatoes ? on the high seas , with no galley ....ahhh ok , better than nothing I guess... they got moisture in them...
I'm a simple lizard: I see a Wolfpack sub sim vid and I tap that shit rn
Ports are definitely under-guarded, though the port recon mission might be a bit of a noob trap if they had heavy ASW patrols.
Maybe a hidden prereq that you need to scan AA at a neutral port before you're tasked with allied ports (where defenses politely ask you to gtfo instead of blowing you out of the water).
Additionally, *always* view the cargo after a search. It's probably bugged, but in my experience you'll see the "nothing suspicious" prompt even if they have a load of ammo.
Thanks captain for the supplies! Give them raw potatoes.
You are the master of underwater warfare.
The Bristol channel (between Wales and Cornwall) should be a good area to patrol too. There are multiple major ports along the south Wales coast and Swansea was also home of a large oil terminal, so good chance of Tankers in the area.
I've stopped freighters with the British flag that were single. Not a convoy of course. I've never been able to stop a tanker though
Yes you cannot board ships in convoys and tankers at the moment. It would be OP to be able to board freighters in convoys because if there is no escort left, all you would have to do is board them, scuttle them in a couple clicks one by one and repeat with the other ships zig zaging and avoiding you.
Can you make a video explaining the different type of torpedo pistols and the difference between AZ and MZ?
ohh, that was a surprise when the entire front of the ship fell off
That ship must’ve been built out of cardboard
@@ham_the_spam4423 Some ships are built so that the front doesn't fall off at all
Ahhhhh....there's the voice I love to hear!
15:50 Imagine having to carry a torpedo through the U-boat in those seas?
YAAAAAAAAAAAS!! More UBOAT!
I love your uboat gameplay. Keep it up man!
I wish you could do a little video explaining what tricks and methods you use to manually calculate the inputs for the targeting system. As someone who is very new to U-boat, I wish I hadn’t been so reliant on the automatic targeting calculation by the crew.
The fact that they found nothing suspicious was extremely suspicious.
Nice video! I see you using shortcuts when in map mode. For example the ruler and the bearing tool, can you tell me where to find them?
You should be able to stay just below the surface basically skimming it and still avoid the submarine nets because warships sit pretty deep in the water and they have to be able to freely move in and out of ports too
There are 2 types of Uboat Skippers: those like you give the survivors supplies, and those like me that run over the life rafts just for fun 😅
"Henry Dunant .... that doesn't sound like a Swiss name to me!!"
That's like saying "Abraham Lincoln" doesn't sound like a very American name for a ship.. :P
you can totally sink a lot of stuff with just the small AA gun. you gotta get in hella close though, I personally pop up from about 200m away and strafe non stop to minimize response time from air assets.
"Henry Dunant" was the founder of the Red Cross.
Another Great video. If I was your captain, I'd be trying to steal a 88 anywhere, to add to Das boat. :D
I really hope they use this game template to make an Age of Sail version of uBoat. Imagine taking part in the napoleonic wars / 7 years wars with this gameplay adapted to Age of Sail...would be amazing!!
Love the way you boarded that freighter
> Swiss flagged ship
> Switzerland is a landlocked country
> Things_that_make_you_go_hmm.jpg
because a country has to have access to a sea to have ships sailing in their flag?
@@lebigfudge Look up the Flag of Convenience.
If you search the ship and they're so clearly not going to the port they say they are (in British isles but going to port of vigo) you can usually just sink them
A diving outfit might be worth while!
Wow the attack happens on the date of my birthday
wonder how will they peel those potatoes, lol. At least its not canned bread you cannot get to without can opener
All these lucky shipwrecked mariners, staring at their raw potatoes.
Live close to Belfast, love your content keep it up man 👏
I think, in order to board a ship, you need to be very close. About 500m and full stop. But I don't know if it's a good idea. They can defend themselves...
At close range, I would rather advise to fire the little 20mm AA gun instead. Just empty 5 mags near the water line. And wait about 5 minutes, it takes time to fill up with water and hopefully sink. In fact, the AA guns have so much ammo, they are more effective than the 88mm in this game.
Heads up wolfpack, you cant board tankers at all, freighters of all flags can be boarded however.
Love this type of videos! ☺
Hey Wolfpack you can get extra XP & Money if you grab the enemy captains & engineer
I passing the word. Do the helmet dive mission.. with the dive helmet you can loot ships you sink In shallow water.. goldbars..rubber. lumber.. but you need extra storage space mod... do a bit of pirating 😂😂
@@beedalton9675 I wonder if it's possible to just load the crate on the rear deck and go back to port with it if there is no storage space left, or maybe it will despawn.
You can't board tankers at all - I guess since the cargo is always oil (or sailboat fuel). British ships can be asked to abandon ship. There was a recent patch that reduced small arms damage to freighters, so it doesn't seem as viable for manned vessels as it once was
Also, while you don't yet have a navigator to confirm if their course is sus, you can absolutely have a look and see if it makes sense for there. Like if a freighter was heading north in the Irish Sea and said it was heading for Lisbon. You only get penalised if they're ACTUALLY neutral
A note if you go so far as to get to Southern Routes campaign, they only count for the campaign objective if you search the cargo BEFORE interrogating the captain, and only ships you catch in the target squares. Achieving the tonnage goal does not wipe the squares though, you can continue to inspect freighters in the mission's squares after completing your tonnage/km goal
On the way to Lisbon by way of Scapa Flow...
Handing out uncooked potatoes to some irish sailors..
Had a little chuckle when that happened 😁🥔
The fun part for them is that they will have to peel off the potatoes, it can get quite boring on a liferaft you know... It's not just food, it's also entertainment!
Can do have both the speedometer, compas and depth up at the same time on the map screen?
i only play this on medium and easy crew and i still think its rock hard!! then again ive opnly been playing about a week. i was using the first sub with only 3 torpedo tubes for a while and that probably didnt help much XD
You gave the survivors potatoes?! What are they going to do with those in a lifeboat? Cook them?
Rule of thumb for calculation ship's speed explained: 0,119km length / 25s time travelling * 3.600 (60[s] * 60[min]) / 1,85 [kts](to get from km/h to knots = 9,26kts. Just sum up the 3600 / 1,85 and multiply with 1.000 so you can use the ship length in meters, not kilometers and you get the factor 1,95 or rougly 2. That's why he used "length of ship divided by travel time times 2". I recommend you learn all the "rules of thumb" you need for Uboat.
Does it matter what bearing they are at if you are stationary? I suppose if you are moving you need to check at zero degrees heading.
Hello Wolfpack! You mentioned that you went through this mission in a "base game". Does this mean, that you use some mods in Uboat? If yes, then could you list them?
Just so you know: Henry Durant is indeed French but they speak a lot of French in Switzerland, as well as a kind of Swiss German
damm..raw potatoes on a life boat.
Sea-salted raw potatoes, just the meal you need while awaiting rescue!
Potatoes off the Irish coast made me chuckle! 😁🥔
I own the game but havn't played sinse EA. Love to watch and learn.
Where does a land locked nation keep their ships? :)
Keep em coming!
What are the survivors supposed to do with uncooked potatoes?
Is this a good game to start with if someone knew naff all about submarines? I did try Silent Hunter years ago, but found myself completely out of my depth.
It always seems SUS when they say it is actually quite normal for that port, even when your own merchant says the opposite.
Nice vid! Entertaining!
The cold welcome was because he's Swiss. The Swiss-Germans are pretty dour.
Happy Times! Type II style.
really fun game waiting for sale
maybe its a noob question but is there a way you can let the crew do every thing like aiming and make the calculations ?
Yes, you can have it all done by the crew but it takes them longer obviously.
Wouldn't the city be in blackout? No lights visible?
the swiss would have gave a cold welcome they are militantly neutral
Is there any actual in-game advantage for leaving provisions with survivors, or is it just an RP thing?
Great video
what's the rule around reporting U-boat positions even if you are neutral?
It seems that you cannot board any tankers at the moment. It's pretty frustrating because you cannot interrogate them. I killed an American tanker that was steaming towards the UK and got a international incident warning for it. So unless it's a red tanker there is no real way to know if it's working for the brits or not. Im guessing the logic is that you cannot search the cargo so the game doesn't bother letting you board? idk.
Thanks for the video
Great episode
I like what I see, except the sinking time of the ships is everything except realistic, hope there will be a mod for that soon!
@10:21 Lock on target in the game does not work for me? :( Why?
You can stop ships flying British flag and tell them you are going to sink her.Sometimes they agree and evac, sometimes they flee.
