As a half Hawaiian born and raised out here in Hawaii, I was ecstatic when I found out that the next Like a Dragon title would be partly taking place in Hawaii. I desperately tried to find more videos like this but couldn’t, still put a smile on my face seeing a local reacting to the game. My dad did catch a glimpse of me playing this and had to do a double take and ask me “are you riding a Segway in Waikiki?” Lol.
If you don't mind podcasts I would recommend Summon Sign Episode 5. Gene Park was raised in Hawaii and talks a lot about stuff that he recognized and how special it was to play a game that takes place where he was raised.

I'm always impressed by how realistically the render their locations. If you go to Osaka, you can basically navigate Dotonbori's main drag from the in-game Sotonbori map.

I was actually more surprised at the homeless conversations. Particularly the one about the mainland sending homeless to the islands. That's stuff that locals (and pretty much only locals) been talking about for decades.
That'll be a really cool series! Not gonna lie though when I read your comment first things that pop in my mind is them interviewing people from "The Lands Between", "Midgar" and "Yharnam"
Playing this game makes me miss home. Born and raised on Oahu, spent most of my childhood in Waipahu, me and my friends would take the bus on weekends to Waikiki or Alamoana. During school days probably Pearl Ridge shopping center. Oddly enough, the thing i miss the most if Musubi from 7/11 and the Bento boxs.
I'm from the Big Island, but I have visited Honolulu many times. I'm amazed at how accurate the map is and that they incorporated business that you would often see too.
I really appreciate that the gameplay is in real time with his commentary Like he says something and the player goes to get a better look at it. Some videos in this style just show clips to the person. This way is much better 🤙

Korean-Australian raised in Hawaii here, Japan especially had a tendancy to touristfy the islands, but im glad they retained the culture and feel of home! From Hilo here, good job :D
My father used to hike a lot west of Vienna. There are some really nice trails along the west line and he would hike out there and take photos of the trains going by. He used to have these expensive hiking sandals with a thick, stiff sole and good grip and he would wear them with socks because in the spots where he's waiting for the trains, there's no trees, no protection from the sun and the sun could quickly get to you and if you wore hiking boots, they'd eventually become sweaty and start to smell really badly. With socks and sandals, you won't overheat, but you still have the socks that protect you from sand, small debris and insects. Once you hike a little further south, where the alps begin, that's a whole different story, but for train spotting it worked really well. And really, you're out there by yourself, nobody's gonna care what shoes you're wairing while you're waiting an hour for that one train you wanna snap.
Infinite wealth is my game of the year. I grew up and went to high school in Hawaii. Now I live in the mainland this game takes me back home.. it is truly dear to my heart

You’ll absolutely love it, I went in with zero expectations and was blown away from start to finish. I’m a turned based combat guy, but the story and everything else was just icing on the already delicious cake
I recently had the opportunity to do some work on some significant historic buildings in Hawai'i. I wonder if they're in the game. I haven't picked it up yet, but I'm excited to.

But I'm shocked at how accurate they got most of it. I'd only go into Waikiki for special occasions, eat at one of their restaurants. Ala Moana / anaconda mall apparently, I do frequent often tho. Didn't know I was actually going to anaconda mall this whole time tho. Haha

I haven't played this game yet but I do live in Waikiki. I never see anyone riding a Segway around here. (There was once a Segway rental place not far from where I live but I'm not sure what became of them after the pandemic.) The tourists rent electric scooters, and that's been the case for years now.
Maybe putting segways in the game instead of scooters was a compromise by the developers. I believe making movement animations for scooters would prove harder than segways

it's an inside joke in the game itself. nobody rides segways, some dude was trying to sell them as a storyline and failing hard. it's hilarious that your comment says nobody rides them and the game mimics that thought. it was a simple way of getting around in the game without using taxis. the game is so amazing
When talking about the Ala Wai, I'm surprised he didn't mention the marine life in it. Ala Wai shrimp is a popular one. Jokes (based on some degree of fact) about the Ala Wai shrimp or mutated fish.
This guy is a skeezah. The island of “Kona” doesn’t exist. Kona is on the big island, also known as moku o keawe ( trust me..I’m native Hawaiian and from Kona). Also, the reason Kona coffee is so expensive is because the part of Kona that it grows in has the perfect environment for growing coffee as well as volcanic soil which is nutrient rich.

This game is the sequel to Yakuza: Like a Dragon, which in itself is the 7 (or 8th if you count the prequel) game of the Yakuza series. You could start with Yakuza Like a Dragon because it is a soft reboot of the franchise. But you could alse start with yakuza 0, but the game are beat em ups instead of rpgs, at least until seven. Hope you give the games a chance, they're amazing, you get so inmersed in the dense open world, the combat and everything in between!

I went to high school and college in Honolulu, HI. This game bought back so much memories, The location and general aesthetics are pretty spot on.

This is such an awesome game. Also really cool thing that they made Ichiban part Hawaiian and Japanese.
