Sokolovská is an essential street in Prague. It connects Nové Město, more precisely the Florence area, with Karlín, Libní, and Vysočany. The street was founded in 1817 under the name Hlavní, as it was the main road of the newly established Karlín. In 1841, it was renamed Královská in honor of the coronation procession, which passed through the street on the occasion of the Austrian Emperor Ferdinand I. Dobrotivý by the Czech King in 1836. In 1845, until then, bearing the name Liberecká silnice. In 1948, the whole street was given the current name Sokolovská in honor of the Ukrainian town of Sokolovo, where one of the battles of World War II took place in 1943, in which a Czechoslovak unit also took part.

Karlín is a cadastral area of Prague, part of Prague's 8 municipal district, formerly an independent town (which became part of Prague in 1922). It is bordered by the river Vltava and Holešovice to the north, Vítkov Hill and Žižkov to the south, New Town to the west, and Libeň to the east. The building of the Karlín district began in 1817, surrounding the Rosarium of the Knights of the Cross with the Red Star. The new settlement was named after Caroline Augusta of Bavaria, the fourth wife of Emperor Francis I of Austria.
After demolishing the city walls, the properties in Karlín were counted among the cheapest properties in Prague. For that reason, industrial enterprises and dwellings proliferated in the "Rohan Island" (Rohanský Ostrov). On January 1, 1922, Karlín was incorporated into Prague. At this time, the electrical engineering pioneer and industrialist František Křižík had significant influence in the area. He established a streetcar line, which he then sold to the city.
In the 1970s, traffic was rerouted onto the Rohanské nábřeží, and the main arterial road was relieved. Since 1990, Karlín has been connected to the Prague Metro, and a pedestrian zone has been established. In 2002, Karlín was severely affected by the 100-year flood. It has since recovered and is becoming a new destination for businesses and residences.

The new Prague monument on the Fragment building in Karlín - The Giantess by sculptor David Černý. She is Lilith and was created by artist and sculptor David Černý.
The architecturally unique construction of the apartment building between Rohanský nábřeží and Sokolovská Street is supported by two other sculptures symbolizing the upper and lower limbs, in addition to the most giant sculpture by David Černý in the form of a woman.
Lilith represents the mythical first woman, who saw the light of day before Eve and was Adam's equal, which is why she refused to obey him and, according to a legend from the Bible, was damned. The house symbolizes the human community, its ability to support each other when needed, and the power of human togetherness. The giant sculpture is that of a woman who stands 24 meters tall and weighs 35 tonnes, symbolically holding the whole house in her arms. The statue turns its head 180° every time it turns after midnight. The house comprises 140 units with a living area of 10 500 m2, resembling a reclining figure from above, supported by the statues above, i.e., an arm, a leg, and a woman. As the artist says, the small sculptures comprise small elements that imaginatively represent the human body's cells. As in life, the cells comprise the body, and the small parts are folded to support the larger ones. The total weight of the sculptures is up to 60 tons, and they are made of stainless steel with a mirror-polished surface.
David Černý is a famous Czech sculptor. His work can be seen mainly in many places in Prague. All of them have become popular attractions in the city.

Hi Vladimir! This was absolutely amazing walk through the New Karlin! What a beautiful modern architecture, beautiful landscaping. We loved the apartment building with large balconies, the side walks and the proximity to the river and the old Karlin. The atmosphere is very different there, modern with open spaces!

Hello, I enjoyed this new video. Karlin is stunning: modern buildings, a lot of trees and greenery, clean and safe streets. And I really like the giant statue (Lilith?). Thanks again for the pleasant walk. Dekuji

Look deep into the April face
A change is clearly taking place
    Looking for the summer
The eyes take on a certain gaze
And leave behind the springtime days
    Go looking for the summer
This ain't no game of kiss and tell
The implications how you knew so well
    Go looking for the summer
The time has come and they must go
To play the passion out that haunts you so
    Looking for the summer
Remember love how it was the same
We scratched and hurt each other's growing pains
We were looking for the summer
And still I stand this very day
With a burning wish to fly away
I'm still looking, looking for the summer
    Looking for the summer

Karlín is one of the most lucrative parts of Prague, where you can live and work practically in the center. There are a lot of office buildings and right next to apartment buildings and again other offices and it alternates like this. Offices with a brick facade then connect to the old part of the city, such as the Invalidovna. This part of the city has great potential, there is still room for the use of the"Invalidovna" complex and the old Karlín barracks. It needs a good projects and an investors.
