Becoming a Certified Canadian with Pond Hockey and Puppies in the Snow

- I've never felt as Canadian, like Certified Canadian, as after playing a little pond hockey. Even the German Shepherd Puppies in the snow are a striking symbol of Canada.
We are upping our game by clearing and flooding the beaver pond so we can play all winter long. It is super rewarding just to flood the rink, and then to play pond hockey on the fresh ice, well it almost makes me emotional.
We can probably save you some grief by watching our first attempt at a cold weather flood. Note: things freeze really fast at -20.
Maybe our favorite part of the puppies in the snow is how the snow flakes stick on the fur without melting, it actually seems fake, like movie snow.

I'm so Canadian, That I had my 2 front teeth knocked out playing hockey, before I was 12 years old. Now that's Canadian. Did you people ever hear about the Newfie that was playing hockey with his friends on the gulf of St Lawrence? He got a break away, and ended up having to take the train home from Thunder Bay.

Way too go. Nothing better then a outdoor ice rink. They don't last long outdoors anymore with global warming.
Oh by the way Don can you show your buddy how to trim a beard. Nothing worse then a sloppy beard, hurts to look at lol I remedied it with a fast forward. Nice trimmed beard there Don.

What wild game was the puppies eating?
The puppies were eating trimmings and bones from our deer hunts this year.
Gridlessness I love it! After field dressing skinning and quartering I guess I fed what was left of my deer to the puppies as well. We left it there for the coyotes to clean up. They must have puppies growing in the mommas belly. ;)
Oh. Do you tan your own deer hides? I want to so bad but everyone tells me you need toxic chemicals.

Your kids will have memories of their youth to rival the Waltons.
I used to know Dave Harper (Jim Bob Walton) He never seemed to express anything positive about The Walton's. In fact he never expressed anything about The Walton's at all. He hated it when people called him Jim Bob... And he also didn't like it when people tried to talk to him about The Walton's in general. He was a cool guy though. He was into Led Zeppelin like we all were back in those days. He had his own Les Paul Custom and a Marshall 4x12 stack with a 100 watt super lead top amplifier which at the time none of us could even dream of affording.
Peter and Lee (who were twin brother's) were close friends with him... I didn't know him all that well myself. But I remember him as being a pretty low key and down to Earth guy. I don't really know why I told this short little story. But when you mentioned The Walton's I remembered Dave, Pete, and Lee, and how Lee passed away many years ago of heart complications brought on by smoking. So I guess that will be the moral of this story today... Kids... Never take up smoking anything or you might end up dying a premature death like my friend Lee did. Take care. sincerely, Dean O. :-I

I discovered years ago that in the absence of high tech, exciting gadgets, simple things become much more fun. Which pretty much proves that humans like to have fun, and they don't need all this tech. In fact they're just addicted, and not really having fun.
That's one reason this channel is so awesome. You show how great a family can turn out without all that stuff. It's about good parents creating a great environment for their family.
What tech don't they have? They clearly have the internet.
Ender They use solar power only, so they run off batteries, and no running water. They built everything themselves. So no contractors. When they moved there they lived in tents.
They never implied they were cave dwellers.
Pretty amazing family either way.
You do realize that they couldn't make the video for people all over the world to view without tech right? Video camera, computer for editing, Internet connection etc. All high tech ;)

Canadians pond hockey it soooooo much fun,I enjoy watching everyone was amazing, I laughed the whole time fun fun fun ya'll was bad to the bone.
When they were looking for the puck in the weeds made me think back to looking for our only baseball in the weeds growing up back in the day. Another great visit with this very hard working fun loving family.
Somebody should have got 2 mins for weeding the puck! BTW that is not a water pump, it's a backwoods Zamboni.

I'm so glad that you're certified now Jeff. I was lucky to have had a creek beside our house that we would skate on. I remember one winter a huge crack formed and one side of it lifted about 1 1/2 feet, well no sense in getting upset so I used it as a ramp for barrel jumping. Sorry about the glasses but I'm sure you have the technology to fix them. Thank you so much for sharing with us.

Love the pups. Sorry, the French had nothing to do with hockey, apart from one aberration in 1066 they've been whupped every time, they're not so good at the physical stuff, the Brits even saved them from German Shepherd puppies twice!!!
