    Great Job, this presentation was extremely well done and it answered a question we had about the MIDI to note limitation, which will not stop us from ordering the ARP in August to accompany our Moog Voyager XL

    The Odyssey is an analog synthesizer, and not at all like a DCO synth. The new connectivity is digital, for convenience - just as the video details. The "digital" ring modulator uses a CMOS part to do the minimal arithmetic needed to set the effect, which is common in analog instruments. The audio and sound generation is all analog, which was, again, correctly stated in the video.

      I think they just call it Digital ring mod because it uses logic gates

    I love the idea that you can only use MIDI for note on and off. Means that you've got to keep it at arm's length to tweak it on its own front panel.

    The ending. Why not call it the Korg Odyssey? Answer. Respect.
    I have respect for Korg too. Always have.

    How much of the Arp Odyssey is analog? Not just the keyboard scanning and USB, it is mistake there from Takahashi San as the ring mod is digital, at least according to the original manual.

      xv750nz It is digital, but not in the modern sense of the word. It's like the sort of digital you'd find in vintage DCO synths like the Juno 6/60/106. It was indeed digital in the original, and also in the ARP 2600 which the Odyssey stems from.

      you have to learn "reading"....there's such difference between a ring modulator "digitally controlled" (or "digitally controlled oscillator" ) and the ring modulator of the nord lead or D50 where a modulator or an oscillator is only math formulas and numbers real time processed by a DSP.
      there's no dsp inside odyssey past and present.

      Its just a line about how he explicitly states that the only digital bits are keyboard scanning and USB/MIDI, but in both manuals it clearly states RING MODULATION Type: Digital. Don't get me wrong I really love the sound of Odyssey sync and and would have liked him to expand on how the digital is implemented in the ring mod.

    Really it would cost that much more for a full size keybed? Having once owned the original I just have a hard time accepting the smaller keys on this one, if you do anymore Korg like an Omni or 2600 make it regular size please and thankyou :)

      i prefer small keys, can span bigger chords

    • @Drew.DrivesYT
      @Drew.DrivesYT 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Solution to small keys: pick up the desktop module and a basic but decent keyboard controller w/ full-size keys.

      teddy martyn you cannot play more than 2 notes at once on this synth.

    • @teddymartyn1092
      @teddymartyn1092 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      2 notes chords require a span, also it transmits notes.

      If you've got a problem with the keybed, get a tabletop module instead, then trigger it from a controller. Just like Ozma2112 says.

    just when you thought you were finally done hearing some old style music that bring it back and so there is never an out with the old and in with the new for sound design.

    Pearly would have chucked the 2600 et al in a cesspit if he had the tools and tech of today.
    Shame he couldn't hang on a few more years to see what Korg could do with his and Friends stuff.

      They also made a version with full size keys, but it costs quite a lot more.
