Love your videos so much we have followed in your footsteps and are in our first three months living aboard our boat currently in the Bahamas working on our video skills
Congratulations on joining the cruising life! Enjoy the warm weather and pristine anchorages of the Bahamas for us, we're wishing we were back there right now. 😉
Good morning you two. I hope this day finds you both well and good. I was just thinking how I so much don’t want to be back at work. But now with a little break watching you. I feel I can make it with happy thoughts the rest of the day.
I know what you mean about the Azores being green and lush. The Azores was the first place I landed when leaving Saudi Arabia after Desert Storm. I had been living in a tent in the dirt for 6 months. Landing in the Azores, seeing the lush landscape, terra-cotta roofs and cows everywhere...seemed like the Garden of Eden!
Awesome video once again! Can we bug you with a question? Would you say there are enough anchorages in the Azores to cruise around them for 2.5 months in the summer? Thanks a lot :)
I just did a stressful 300 mile drive in heavy rain and wind. I was a ball of stress when I got home, so I poured myself some scotch and watched your video and the stress went away. Thanks!!!
Hydrangeas comes in many different colors and shapes. They can have green, white, red, purple and yellow flowers and variations with several colors at the same time. Different sizes both on the tree/bush. They can even grow as lianas
Wonderful video, really makes me want to be there. @03:30 "Pico got it's name from the volcanic peak, which is over three thousand kilometers tall.". Wow, that is almost as high as the distance from Detroit to Seattle. Bet you folks aren't going to be hiking up it this lifetime! @05:45 Any time you have trouble (with Tribbles) like that, ask for their GPS coordinates. Not many folks will know, but it is easily found, and is independent of language, facility giving directions, and map apps.
Thanks again for posting these. I have not watched them all, but I see you mention "patrons" in some videos. Is there a way to donate to your adventures? Your videos really relax me and I figure I should give a little something back. You are both hard workers/mission focused, and Matt is not much of a talker and neither of you is loud or annoying, so much appreciated!
Thank you for the kind words and thoughts. Also, thank you for the offer to send a little something our way. We are on both Patreon.com (it is set up for small monthly donations) and Paypal.com (for one time gifts). www.paypal.me/MJSailing www.patreon.com/mjsailing Matt
Thank you for the beautiful video I'm a new follower and really enjoy your videos. I became disabled a few years ago and can no longer travel so I found watching travel videos a way to see the world however I recently discovered sailing videos and just love them they are so much more personal and you get to see so many more places so thank you for posting your adventures. I really wish that I could contribute to your channel but I'm living on a small savings and a disability check and insurance, doctors and just daily living drains my bank account each month so I'm really sorry because if I could your channel would be one that I would support. Thank you for what you do to bring some pleasure to someone like me that would otherwise just sit around bored to death.
The hydrangeas you drove by earlier are the "mop head"and more common variety. The ones you can't identify appear to be the "lace cap" variety of hydrangeas.
This was my first time to watch one of your videos, and I thought it was terrific. It's nice to see cruisers actually exploring these amazing islands. But, you are right in that there aren't many facilities for cruisers on most of the islands. I would also encourage cruisers to do like you, and spend a couple of days at Pico since it's an easy ferry ride. Another easy ferry ride from Faial is to Sao George which also has some nice lodging. I just wanted to reach into your video for some of that wonderful Azorian cheese! I look forward to see your explorations of Sao Miguel. Flores is our favorite!
Thank you Marcia, we're so glad you liked our travels through Pico! I had mentioned on camera, but ended up cutting it due to length, that we wished we had another few days to spend on Pico but our cat was alone on our boat back in Faial and we didn't want to leave her for more than 36 hours. We're hoping to hit Flores next spring! It was supposed to be our intended landfall but winds were out of the NE and the harbour would have been very uncomfortable.
The flowers you were looking at are hydrangeas. The volcanic soil and temperate climate lets them grow and bloom year round. While you are in the Azores, go to a restaurant and have some lapas (mussels) and cracas (barnacles).
@@chrissummers2689 I believe it was! It was held in Praia during August and there were many food tents from the various islands and mainland Portugal. So...stay tuned for that episode soon!
We use dry-bag backpacks. One is from a company called Aquaquest, and the other is from Mantus. I think both are 50L. We use them all the time and love them!
MJ Sailing Thanks! I’ve got a little racing boat (Shark 24) and my stuff keeps getting wet when I cruise. Have been looking for a good dry bag backpack.
Being located on the Mid-Atlantic Rig I've always wanted to know if there's a sign that tells you what continent your on? One side being North America and the other being Europe.
Did I hear you say use are going to sail to Ireland. If use do go make shore to sail to the Isle of Man 🇮🇲 amazing place. It’s a little island between Ireland & England. Late may early June is a good time. Look up Isle of Man TT races on TH-cam use will love it
Steve, Winemakers started growing grapes in the are in the 1500s, so I'd guess they'd have started to build the walls around then too. But, that may have been a more sea air friendly grape at the time. Matt
It was a very cool episode. Thanks. Hope you brought a jar of that dirt back for Georgie to shnoofle. Seeing the BBQ outdoor is making my mouth water for hamburgers after all this turkey. Hope you brought a bottle of wine back for your collection. Safe travels.
There were no open slips in the marina other than to be on the reception dock. There was the possibility to anchor, but we heard holding was bad and watched boats have to re-anchor themselves daily.
I watched your vlog on money. There is as much work as you can handle picking fruit in New Zealand currently. The season lasts for several months A trip to the Sth Pacific also lets you visit other interesting counties - Fiji, Samoa, Tonga, Australia. I understand the latter country also has fruit picking work.
She stays on the boat alone and waits for us to come back. That's why we were only in Pico for one night instead of more. The longest we've left her was 2.5 days in Guatemala.

Yeah....in the beginning I felt odd forcing a camera in their face since we had been friends and would casually hang out long before TH-cam; and we didn't want to force them to be entertainers just in order to hang out with us. But the further the videos get with them by our side, you'll see them become more involved with our on-camera actions. 🙂
Thank you for taking us along for the ride.
Wow! These are the places i love to visit. Sleepy towns with character and lots of great natural views. Thanks for the video ❤️
I love it! I go to Pico island almost every summer to see family! Hopefully one day I get to sail from NH to Pico!
Looks so beautiful. Wish I had the balls to take my sailboat that far.... 😰. I'm living through you guys. I'm in for the beer as well... 🍺
I am so with you on the scents of the earth-- pine, dirt, etc.... combined with the air and sea ++++++!

Your videos almost bring tears to my eyes! I haven't left Wisconsin in close to 20 years I would love to do that type of exploring! Thank you😊
If you have to be in one state for 20 years, Wisconsin isn't a bad choice :)

What an island. Really did enjoy your exploring of the island. Looking forward to your next video.
Another great view of one of those atlantic gems :)
Thank you guys so much ,loved this particular blog thanks once again xx
That is an amazing place. I will have to put it on my bucket list to visit.
Please make sure it is on your bucket list! And make sure to keep an eye out for Episode 83 coming up...featuring Faial. It is to die for. 🙂
The Azores is heaven. Pico is particularly close to my heart and I'm building a home there this year!

The bush with flowers U are admiring at 11:10 are named hydrangea or hortensia. ;-)
Happy Hollidays!
Are those different than the regular blue hydrangeas you usually see spread throughout the Azores?

Those flowers, at 11:05, are called lacecap hydrangeas.
Very cool. Thanks for posting the real name... a lot of people said Hydrangeas, but nobody knew the full name.

Morning guys, great travel log video today, just loved it! Who is looking after Georgie while you were gone curious? Fairwinds

There were no open slips in the marina other than to be on the reception dock. There was the possibility to anchor, but we heard holding was bad and watched boats have to re-anchor themselves daily.
No coffee morning? You know Matt in the driver's seat was scared for his life.
