  • Vox AC30VR Valve Reactor Guitar Combo Amp demonstration with Vox Guitar Amplification Specialist Freddy DeMarco at Full Compass Systems
    Play in Style
    Using an "old-school" split-panel design, the AC30VR offers two distinct channels - Normal and Overdrive - with the Overdrive channel adding a separate Gain knob. In addition, the overdrive Style button delivers two distinctive flavors.
    In Control
    Equipped with two custom-designed 12" Celestion speakers, the AC30VR delivers a roaring 30 watts of power. The Normal channel offers both Bass and Treble tone controls, along with a single Volume knob. A Gain knob has been added to the Overdrive channel, as well as a Middle control for more defined tone shaping. In the Master section, the AC30VR features the unique Tone Cut circuit knob for dampening the high-end frequencies. Master Reverb and Master Volume controls are also provided.
    Back for More
    The AC30VR's back panel features an external speaker jack for use with an 8 ohm extension cabinet. Using an extension cabinet will mute the internal speakers. Also provided is a jack for the optional VOX VFS2 dual footswitch, which offers hands-free channel-switching and reverb on/off action.

    Thank you very much FullCompass, This is the first video I've found for this amp with a bit of country twang being played through it, it sounds fantastic. I really didn't want to have to plunk down a grand for an AC30, since I just play at home, looks like I can take the more affordable route.

    hi there
    if you dont really know the difference,its not that important.
    theres solid state amps that sound like tube amps,and tube amps that sound like crap,so its up to you and your ear.if your ear cant tell then dont bother worrying about it.just play

    Its more of a blues, country, classic rock amp; but I suppose if you were to put some pedals in front it would work for some metal genre's.

    Hi - just bought one of these - do you have any thoughts on the latancy issues when switching from clean to heavy channel? At first I thought there was a fault with my amp..

    • @fullcompass
      @fullcompass  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the question. We are unaware of any known latency issues.

      +Full Compass If you explained this already, I apologize.. are the tubes only used on one channel and then SS on another or are the tubes always working? Also, does it use the same kind of tubes as a full tube amp.. meaning, will they need replaced eventually and can they be replaced to affect the sound? Thanks!

    • @motorrebell
      @motorrebell 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello - It uses one 12 ax7 Tube - ( mostly used as Preamp Tube in fulltube amps ) and its used on both channels . It can be replaced to get cleaner or dirtier gain sound .

  • @JackCavie
    @JackCavie 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Can you use the footswitch to cover all 3 channels Clean, OD1 and 2? I'm after an amp where I can do clean, rhythm and lead via a footswitch to save using a pedalboard.
    Thanks :D

    • @HaMM4RTime
      @HaMM4RTime 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nah can't be done mate, the switch only covers switching between the normal and the OD, as well as reverb, switching between OD1 and OD2 needs the button to be pressed on the amp itself

    You seem like a little more than fairly knowledgeable guitarist, so will you please educate me on the difference with hybrid amps. I know only that they are a combination of solid state and tube, and I know the are two different ways they are combined, but I have no real idea what difference that make, or how they compare to other amps.

    • @fullcompass
      @fullcompass  9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi, here's our thoughts...
      Tubes are more responsive to your playing and offer more natural overdrive. Solid State is reliable, less maintenance, less weight, less cost. They can be combined in any number of ways. Better? Worse? Not really. Different. If you like the sound of an amp, then it’s the right amp. Thanks!

    Do these take pedals well?

    • @fullcompass
      @fullcompass  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sure. The clean channel is transparent and will reproduce the pedal tones accurately. It doesn’t have an effects loop though which is different from lots of other amps. It's pretty similar to the tube Vox AC30’s.

  • @CoverCriticShane
    @CoverCriticShane 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    Come on Freddy , Metal? The clean channel sound really nice , the dirty channel sounds terrible. Though I have never owned or played through one , I would suggest using a pedal through the clean channel to get a metal sound. What I don't get about this amp is , if your going to do a hybrid why not use valves in the preamp where all the flavor comes from and do the power section SS so it will be transparent.

    • @PeterDad60
      @PeterDad60 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      CoverCritic Shane That's exactly what they did. A 12ax7 is in the Pre-amp and the power section is S.S., man you gotta learn to pay attention. The spec's are at every vendor!

    • @neeto9412
      @neeto9412 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      it totally depends on the volume of the band, and type of music you guys are playing and for how many people, if it's a regular bar small to medium room, sure, you can leave em deaf, if it's something bigger, you might want to mic it up

      sounds pretty fucking good to me, it has never limited me and has made me even more creative with options, since you are limited. Truth be told, any kind of instrument in a mid-range category is good, it depends on the player if it will sound meh, or WOW.

      I will admit that I haven't even tried one of these amps, but your comment seems a little too easily dismissive. Most guitarists put over drive and distortion pedals before their all tube amps. Solid state pedals. Doesn't seem that much different to this amp. Think of the preamp state of this amp as a pedal going into an all tube power amp stage. Early guitar amps didn't even have preamp stages.

      @neeto9412 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@aguitarist2246 i would not recommend it either for a metal guitar player, this is a more mellow mid/bass amp for rock, country, blues and jazz, trebles are very high and kinda hurt, if you play metal you should look into a Mesa Boogie, Marshall, Orange or Line 6, those are mos familiar with the tones you guys are looking for.

    If you place this amp on a stack of pancakes, the stack will get flatter. ALSO, if you turned down that reverb, we could have heard how the amp sounds.

    Good to see a review with the sound from the amp speakers itself. I never follow a miked up review. Instant dislike!
