After 2 faulty units over a period of 3 months I swapped it out for the E-Image GH06 - best decision ever! Problem with first Nitrotech 612 was grinding noise when panning and inability to stop precisely whenever I stopped panning (you could feel an uneven panning like something is providing varying resistance.) Replacement unit started exhibiting intermittent grinding noise when panning and the tilt axis drag kept changing. After thorough inhouse testing the shop agreed with me and recommended I try the E-Image GH06. I was initially a bit apprehensive as I had not heard the brand name before but as months and months of superb, reliable and most importantly consistent performance I absolutely love the GH06. It is simple unit with no rubbish BS techno sounding name like Nitrotech.....

They don’t appear to have put the 612 emblem on straight. Unless my view is skewed.

I buy one and after 3 months the counter balance nitrogen piston broke the top nut. Now there are no way to use the fluid head, also the pan spring back, very bad build quality and the repair cost is 300+ USD.

Can i turn off counterbalance? Or is it always on and i can only choose how strong it is?

I have the previous version of this Manfrotto Nitrotech Video Head in the version till 8 kg. The counterbalance is always 'on' but it can be set from no counterbalance till the maximum counterbalance weight, for the 608. But you also have a movement resistance in this fluid head, which stands apart from the counter balance. You have movement resistance in the pan direction and in the tilt direction. For the tilt direction it is the big large knob at the left side of the fluid head. If you have the counterbalance set to practically zero but your movement resistance for your tilt axis to very much you will be able to still make very smooth movements in the tilt axis. But with a heavier setup you can get more chance that the fluid head slips through its position if you let go of the extension arm and your camera is positioned upwards or downwards. Although your counterbalance is set to none, you are always able to lock the video head in any position without it changing its position despite of the lack of counterbalance. If you want professional videos with movement on a tripod this Manfrotto Nitrotech is a no brainer. You just need to have it. It has no competitors in this price range. But for a good choice : be aware of what type of setup you are going to use with it. If you are sure that you are never going to exceed the 8 kg it is MUCH BETTER to choose for the NItrotech 608 than for the 612 because the counterbalance from the 608 starts working from a load of 0 up till 8kg. The counterbalance of the 612 starts to work only from 4 kg up till 12 kg. So any setup of under 4 kg will make your video head creep, or even flip, up again to its horizontal position when you have low resistance drag on the movement of the tilt axis selected. The Nitrotech 608 is also a little cheaper than the 612. The biggest advantage of this system is that you can start a tilt movement in any direction slow it down to zero in any position and then let go of the handle without the camera position moving any further. It is such a delight to work with and you feel yourself like a full-grown pro when using this piece of technology.

Hello, I bought one, and the tilt fluid drag knob is making a crackling noise when adjusted a bit hard/fast. Do you have this? Also, how hard is the maximum drag (tilt) ??

Mine makes that noise. To me it sound like the fluid or grease.

You should've posted sample footage from the tripod.

hello.. i purchased this specific video head last May 2022.. sold by ADORAMA thru AMAZON.. i hardly used it, because i'm a bird photographer trying to learn video.. that round knob on the side, for for adjusting the " Fluid Drag System " broke-off? i was simply trying to turn in adjusting the drag, and it just came off like it's nothing.. any idea where can i send it for repair? or is Manfrotto will replace it for me, or at least fixed it? Clearly i couldn't send it back to Amazon because of the date purchased.. i paid $788 for it.. couldn't believe it'll be broken that easy.. any suggestion will do, thanks!

That is one poorly aligned 612 decal on the head. Normally manfrotto/bogan is better than that on the fit and finish

It's a testament to the manufacturer's care to detail and quality control. If they can't be bothered to notice glaringly obvious flaws like this, I wouldn't be very confident in their product as a whole. Especially in a product of this caliber and price point, from a manufacturer of this level. Stickers are meant to be cosmetic, but in this case it's subtracting from the look.

@@ccmangb ya truly, the art of putting on a sticker straight, if ya can't do that, ya can definitely make anything.
      Do you even hear yourself?

@@8lec_R Do you hear yourself? How hard is it to put on a sticker straight? How much are you paying for this tripod? How hard is it to qc something obvious like this? If it were a $30 tripod from China, nobody would bat an eye. If your new car came with its front badge obviously skewed, would you still say it's just a logo?

Just picked up an Alexa SXT. Would you recommend this head as a cheap alternative that can handle the weight of Alexa built out?

Video too long to just say that it uses a nitrogen cylinder.
