It is on another school's campus, so there was no way that GSU would even make an offer for it (if it was up for sell). Also, the land belongs to Clark Atlanta University and not Morris Brown (Morris Brown was lease the land that the stadium was built on - as they were not given the land like other parts of the school's campus). Some of the land that Morris Brown is on was originally part of Atalanta University and was given to Morris Brown along with some of the buildings. Keep in mind that Clark Atlanta University was the combing of two universities in 1988 (Atlanta University and Clark College). There was a lawsuit and CAU was declared the official owners of the land the stadium sits on, as during the case it was shown that Morris Brown did not have the right to sell the stadium\land (the lease agreement went back so long ago, Morris Brown was under the impression that they owned the land out right - like the other parts of their campus that was given to them by then Atlanta University). What people need to know there are multiple HBCUs in that area and they had a history of working with each other (which include swapping lands and buildings).

Morris and Alonso both had to have rolled in their graves when this came to light. The exact opposite purpose of their legacies is what set back what they, mostly Morris, left behind.

What a sad story for all the kids involved as well as what was such a beautiful college and stadium. It always saddens me when historic buildings are bulldozed.
That's progress, bud. The entire city of Atlanta sits atop the ruins of its previous self. Sherman and his troops burned the city to the ground. You can literally walk the streets of the ruins, underneath the city. It's called the Atlanta Underground.
"Morris Brown college was named after Morris Brown" See, me, i woulda f***ed with us a lil bit there like "Morris Brown college was named after - thats right guys, you guessed it- former Seattle Seahawks TE Carlester Crumpler"
That’s crazy. I was literally just watching Civil War today and wondered “who lent their nice stadium to these filmmakers and let them dress it up with all that graffiti?” 😂
The good thing is Morris Brown is making a comeback and hopefully no one will repeat the mistakes that was made in the past. As far as athletics coming back to Morris Brown that is something that they are planning down the road, but the main goal is to get enrollment up and take care of old buildings on campus. They will be doing club soccer that will be completely paid for through sponsorships.
I was in this stadium In 2006 during filming of We are Marshall. Obviously Hollywood spruced it up a little bit but it didn’t look terrible. Looks like trees and weeds have taken hold now. It was a decent little stadium. Georgia State should play here instead of Fulton county stadium and they can sell it out.
This seems similar to what happened to Brightwood College that I attended. The semester after my class graduated the school announced that it lost its accreditation and they were closing the school 2 weeks into the new semester. I ended up in over $10 thousand dollars in debt that wasn't forgiven.
Really wish they could have maintained the stadium in some manner. Herndon Stadium before falling into disrepair was probably better than the stadiums of their neighboring colleges of Clark Atlanta and Morehouse, perhaps they could have used Herndon as the site for the annual Battle of the Atlanta University Center between those schools.
CAU originally stated that they had plans to rebuild the stadium, but I think those plans have changed given that they had the 2nd highest enrollment applications in the state (better use of the land might be of better use to build up the capacity of the university so that it can accept more students).
@@EyeOfTheWatcherCAU might be better served following the model UCF followed. UCF is the largest public university in the nation. They have their main campus, and dozens of satellite facilities across Orlando and the Metro Area.
So a few things. Morris Brown is apart of a collective of colleges in the area called the Atlanta University Center (Morehouse, Spelman, Clark Atlanta U, and Morris Brown). They are called HBCUs (Historically Black Colleges/Universities) not HCBUs. I graduated from Morehouse which is basically down the street from MB, it’s a favorite location of students to trespass, explore, fool around, and get high in. It is a shame what happened to the school and stadium, but MB recently got the accreditation back and are currently in a revival. The school is no longer dead, the stadium was bought by Clark Atlanta some years ago, but it still sits abandoned. There were once plans to sell it to the Atlanta MLS team but I don’t know how that’s phased out. Thanks for making the video, but some info is off, but it doesn’t ruin the fact that you covered much needed history.
There are SO many practice field options in the ATL for the 26WC, that sadly you would never get the stadium considered, even if you could get the money and fix it up between now and June 2026.

There are 101 HBCUs and not all of them have those issues you are describing (even the small ones). The schools that have those problems need to be called out, but making generalization not based on any facts is problematic because it creates a narrative that mismanagement runs across HBCUs, even though the problems are at specific schools and is caused by specific individuals in positions of power.
I’m wondering if in the next year or two if MBC revives its athletics program. If so, I could see them leasing the stadium from CAU as the rivalry and tradition the two schools have.
