I grew up in San Leandro California, in the middle of the Bay Area. My dad would take me fishing for Leopard Sharks all of the time. The meat is amazing and they always put up an impressive fight, even the little ones. My dad has been gone for years now and watching you explain the cleaning process just took me back to a wonderful time in my life. I cannot thank you enough for that precious gift.

Hi, The best way to keep the taste of urine is to remove quickly the vein in the back cartilage as the urine tack is that very vein. In bigger sharks it is that same and is more obvious to see the vein. To get to the vein you must cut completely the shark. Takee the head off first, then proceed to the stomach gutting. It then is clear to see the back cartilage vein. to remove the vein it can come out complete whole in some species, but do not count on it happening all the time. gut the shark by the water and de-vein it so you can use the sea water to clean it afterward. DO NOT wait until you get home, it then will taste like urine. good luck, Lazaro

Leopard shark is in the Houndshark family and generally most of the sharks in the Houndshark family have a more flakey texture then requiem sharks (Blacktip, Whaler ect) here in Australia we have a shark that we call a gummy shark (because it doesn't have sharp teeth) and those are also a houndshark and we commonly refer to them as flake when eating them. School shark is another very nice flakey shark.

this leopard sharks look very similar to the dogfish and bullhuss, also known as lesser and greater spotted catshark we have in europeespecially the bullhuss are extremely similar in shape and size too, even though they max out at about 6 feet so don't get as big, doggies stay much smaller, therefore you can catch hundreds of them sometimes

I was using 40 pound test on a Newell P454-F reel on a 8 foot casting rod, good times. I always used steel leader, wish we'd had circle hooks back then. Any ways looks like you guys had fun, stay safe and tight lines. P.S. Way back when, carpenters in or around coastal area's, would catch sharks to use the skin as Sand paper,, so there you go :)

Something to check just for your own well being.
We have a small Shark species called the "The Spiney Dogfish." They dont get that large, they have a venomous spike on their Dorsal Surface. They grow quite slowly so there is a warning about these sharks containing naturally occuring Mercury. There is a warning in our fishing regs about limiting the amount that pregnant women and elderly people can eat.
