    I"ve played for a long time, self taught, and i'll tell you videos like this would have been a god send when i first started learning. fortunate for me, because of guys like this and many others on youtube i can try to pick up on some of the classic tunes or fundamentals i missed out on. thanks, buddy, you're a gem!

    With Dickies recent stroke I’ve been thinking about and listening to a lot of the brothers lately. I’ve hade the pleasure of seeing them perform about 40 times over 40 years.

    if it makes it easier for anyone, I think it was Duane that said he used to count "123,123,123,1-2" instead of counting straight to eleven

    How good are these guys? I love their songs. And I missed all this good stuff - born in '76 and never heard of them in the '80's when I was growing up. It was all hair metal, by then. It's taken me to new heights learning guitar, discovering these guys.... and the Scorpions. Wow!

    My first comment. Great job breaking down and teaching a song with multiple parts, different beets and multiple guitar parts. I've been playing this song for years and have always used an Amajor scale for that last build up where you show the correct way using a Dorian scale plus an extra 1/2 step note. I knew an Amajor scale wasn't quite right, but could never figure it out. One of the reasons the ABB has always intrigued me is their use of less common rock/blues scales such as Dorian and the way they used to bounce back and forth between major and minor pentatonic scales. This ping-pong between major and minor scales took me years to figure out on my own. No tab or vids back then :-) Great job. Thanks!!

    Nick cave : red right Hand
    The beatles : I want you (she's so heavy)
    Sonic youth
    QOTSA : make it wit chu

    take your fourth finger and place it on the sixth string at the fifth fret, now with your right hand or your left hand if you are left handed or with your right hand using your pick held between the first and second fingers, now just hold it lightly not too hard or if you prefer not to use a pick then pluck the sixth string with your chosen finger and begin to play the first note of the riff, do it slow at first in a seated or standing position which ever you prefer and adjust your strap so its comfortable or uncomfortable depending on your preference, now we proceed to executing the second note with the third finger ... so there it is we are seven minutes into the tutorial listening to some overly detailed instructions that you can easily see for yourself. FWIW

    Finally, somebody got the chords right. That was the first thing that stuck out to me and made the song interesting and appealing when I first heard it on the 8 track circa late 70 or early 71. I saw the original line up with Duane and Berry back in Easter 71', Jacksonville Coliseum. It was one of the best concerts of my life. When I hear these songs now, it is a bit haunting. I feel like I did then, yet so many people gone including the 3 of the band members.

  • @pilotgi
    @pilotgi 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I'm not saying your wrong but... The Hal Leonard official tabs for this song show Dickey Betts rhythm part at "Sometimes I feel" is played with seventh chords starting at the fifth fret. D7, D#7, E7, then back to A7. Also, the rhythm part your playing during the beginning vocals is an octave higher than what is shown in the tabs. Thanks for the video, Marty.

    4:14. The double stop played with the ring finger is definitely not minor pentatonic. The note on the second string is not in the pentatonic scale. That's the beauty of songs like this. Note and chord choices are practically endless. For example, you can jazz it up by playing Am7 - Bm7 instead of Amajor - B major to accompany the singer. You can also get away with block chord voicings of A major and G major if you use the open 5th string as a pedal or drone tone. You can also go crazy with arpeggios of the same chords. It all works.
