Brilliant, just brilliant! Such fantastic information as always from Lindsay, she really is a gifted teacher and so full of energy that you can’t help being enthused! Thanks you B&H for this great presentation and thank you Lindsay for your vision and creativity and your willingness to share!!
This a was amazing Some days I don’t like you because you make me take a hard look at what I am doing. In my area I am in the top two for prices and 1 for the amount of senior that I do. I am fetching a lot of how I do business. I just purchased the Mola demi can’t wait to use it for a senior Thank you for all that you do. I am a fellow New Yorker that now lives in northern Arizona.
GREAT PORTRAIT TIPS! As a photojournalist, I'm ALWAYS looking to improve my portraiture skills, and you are right on target with your video...Thank you.
This is a training class that others charge £400-£500 for a few hours for with group of people. Thanks for uploading. May God almighty bless you and your family for posting this video
Very useful and well-organized presentation. I like the way she deals with the basic business strategy issue of whether you want to be a high-value photographer or one that shoots in the commodity space (good luck with that today). Thanks to Lindsay, B&H and the sponsors.
Lindsay... i dig you girl... we are so like minded... i shoot with 1 camera and 1 lens.... Sony RX1R2... yup, simple enough... not real impressive unless you know what it is... but fortunately i do and don't care what others might think... Like you... i enjoy getting to know my clients... it's the hallmark of what i do... I do not post much of my work... it is to tedious but love what you are saying in your video... thank you Lindsay
She has good stuff. But key moment was when she said can't hire her without hair and make up getting done. It may have been a piece of cardboard, but who provided the dress, the hair styling session, and the make up job? It quickly becomes a head shots and pretty simple shots with a softbox without the props. In fashion it's rarely how you shoot, it's what you shoot. More people need to deconstruct how a photo was done. Now the idea of the head thing made from Ikea mats was really good. But is that photographer, or is it a stylist that already had that, or made it, or saw it some place else and made it? But if more people would learn to demystify photos they' would realize it's less about the picture taking and more of just together a collection of things to photograph. Like she said, get in front of more interesting things. But she has a super refreshing approach and personality for somebody that"s involved in the fashion side.
Hi Lindsay.. My name's Herman from Indonesia. I am a photographer passion in fashion. Do you use EF 24-105L F.4 first generation or mark ii? I use first generation EF 24-105L F.4 with canon 77D and M50, but i feel like it's not sharp enough sometimes.. and usually out of focus. Is a full frame camera will make a different for sharpness? As I know, you are using Canon 5D. If you dont mind answering my question. Thank u.
Thank you Lindsay and B&H!! I'm not finding the Notes and Presets as advertised in the video when I go to that link. Is there a different link I should be going to?
It’s so true. I don’t know my tulles from my tools. I’m a macho, caveman like dude who’s favorite colors are British racing green and labrador retriever yellow. But thanks to the miracle of the way the human brain works, you’ll find that once you have a basic plan you’ll start seeing all kinds of props and wardrobe you would never otherwise notice in 1 million years.
The colour checker is great! But once it's done it's thing you can use Vectorscopes and histograms for colours. Look up vectorscopes skin tones, you will see a lot of video editors using them to make sure the colours are correct and skin tones are in in the right area. Also find someone you trust has a good judgement and ask them if they think the colour is off in any way. Remememer just because the colours are correct, doesn't mean it's good. It's just best to start off neutral when colour grading.
32:52 Does it bother you that the girl is right up to the left edge of the frame? I would think it works much better is there were more space on the left then on the right, Or have the girl facing right instead.
Lindsay says that photographers make all kinds of excuses like "I don't have the gear, it's where I live, etc". I live in a town of just over 1,000 in one of the poorest counties in my state, and no one wants to spend over $50 on their portraits. So, I call my county, "The $50 and a disc" county. People wanting their portraits done in my county usually ask others on those Facebook yard sale sites "Can you recommend a good photographer who is cheap?" And you'll see the momtographers who shoot everything in Program mode just flock to those pages and flood that post with their photography Facebook page links. So, needless to say, though I'd love to do portraits, I'm kind of stuck right now just photographing local car shows in the Summer or family events.
I am in philly I got my name out here a bit and now I can charge more and get what i want, if they dont want to pay my rates I am comfortable enough to say, GTFOH!!!! j/k
Change your business plan, change your style/process, and do not just focus on your county. Your choices dictate your price. If the market is limiting, change your market through size or scope.
Most businesses have competition so you can add your excuse to the list Lindsay was talking about. ;) I recommend "specializing" in a very specific type of photography to stand out among the competition. Just like the medical profession, people want specialists even if in the same field.
I continue to be surprised at how much more difficult cinematography is and no one cares because the work gets the attention, however in professional portraiture the artist gets the focus and the models are “props”. It is an ego based craft....of course that just my opinion. Still an amazing lecture.
I love Lindsay's work and teachings...so creative, well done and inspirational. She provides so much insight. Love the beauty dish lighting and wondering the size/make/model? Assuming Profoto. Also, can it be purchased at B&H?
These items used by Lindsay may be purchased at B&H: Profoto D1 Air 500W/s Monolight • BH #PRD1A500: bhpho.to/2JPVIsb Profoto Deep White Umbrella (Large, 51") • BH #PRUDLW: bhpho.to/2GlEy4L Profoto Umbrella Diffuser (Large) • BH #PRDUL: bhpho.to/30ucEuQ >Mark
the point of using it is to be accurate but 99% of clients dont care and sometimes the photographer just wants a look they want even if it is under or over exposured
great lesson from lindsay. Not good who was filming this, stayed on photos to long while she was showing other things and we missed it, wake up video people.
Yes artistic and glamorous but art portraiture doesn't necessarily need to be. I don't think I'd make it there with a style that doesn't look to flatter - the opposite really.
Ms Lindsey Adler i goues you have see many pictures in galeries and many of the pictures did not have to be a concept just a good eye. Please dont tell what is art or what deserve to be art and what not.Do not fool your audience, kind of arogace speak through you.
Yes, but at least she does not pretend or act as if it is her creation. Far too many on Creative Live act as if they are the ones who just discovered fire. Usual the new kids on the block.

I love the statement about how we "MAKE the picture not TAKE the picture." There are a lot of newbies who think that the opposite is true.
No kidding. Went on my first trip with my camera. I met so many people who refused to edit their pictures.
is there a link someplace to the downloadable materials that were mentioned at the beginning of the presentation?
I'd like to photograph Lindsay! Stunning.
41:32 OMG! :D so creative and resourceful
Great video thank you ...really interesting.
wow, master work!
Truly amazing work Lindsay! So inspirational
Very good session, thank you!

B&H WITH LINDSAY ADLER GRET... GRET... GRET. THANKS B&H I LIKE THIS VIDEO
Great, Great, Great
Gorgeous Subject
Love your work so much. Wish I wasn't stuck here in WV where it is next to impossible to be creative or do much of anything in photography.
Your work is inspiring
How do you tell your family to expect to spend three to five hours. The teen’s reply. “UHHHH!”
Great content! Thank you so much!
Glad you enjoyed! Will

Outstanding Event! Lindsay, what size is your umbrella?
It's very helpful video 👌

As a color blind photographer... Do you suggest I completely trust that color checker with the plug in?
The X-Rite color checker may be trrusted and fine adjustments may also may be made using the eye-dropper white-balance tool in Adobe Lightroom. >Mark

Fun drinking game: take a shot every time she says New York. Lindsay if you’re reading this I love you please let me intern lol
32:52 Does it bother you that the girl is right up to the left edge of the frame? I would think it works much better is there were more space on the left then on the right, Or have the girl facing right instead.
Amazing, why ISO 200?
great!!
What set of gels did you use?

Kay Brown: You do understand you just proved her point, right?
$50 is better than no $.
Change your business plan, change your style/process, and do not just focus on your county. Your choices dictate your price. If the market is limiting, change your market through size or scope.

@@BandH I'm assuming then you don't have the beauty dish?
Not so subtle dig at @PeterHurley at 1:45 😂
Where are Lindsay’s notes located?
Notes are here: notes.lindsayadlerphotography.com/bh-workshop-may-2017/ . Thanks for taking a look!
Are these pictures are matrix metered??
She's using strobes. Camera metering doesn't matter
Interestingly most people drop down saturation instead of vibrance... wonder why Lindsay chooses to use the vibrance slider.
Read this :D digital-photography-school.com/vibrance-vs-saturation-in-plain-english/
Does anyone know what umbrella she is using looks like a 84 cheetah
No flashmeter?
Joel Grimes doesn't use one either.
Kay Brown doesn't mean is useless on the contrary, it is more efficient and more professional than taking several test photos to nail the exposure
the point of using it is to be accurate but 99% of clients dont care and sometimes the photographer just wants a look they want even if it is under or over exposured
have you guys not heard about ttl?
Lady Gaga is so talented
Is that Kyle's mom? I love South Park!
Correction. If you gonna shoot in low light. You buy a nikon d850!
great lesson from lindsay. Not good who was filming this, stayed on photos to long while she was showing other things and we missed it, wake up video people.
These days people are not insecure..they expect Photoshop to fix everything:)
Before you can find the answer, you have to know the question.
Rembrandt's studio was a big bank of windows but all of his paintings are super dark and shadowy..
Bambi Cantrell says if you can afford yourself your too cheep
54:52 The guy in the background looks shady like he's done something really bad.
Yes photographers make a lot of excuses but...that's because we don't have alot of time, we're very inefficient managing out time lol
Yes artistic and glamorous but art portraiture doesn't necessarily need to be. I don't think I'd make it there with a style that doesn't look to flatter - the opposite really.
A person could build that castle out of styrofoam then composite it in
Out of focus art...? Never heard of it for a reason.
What is she wearing for gods sake??? may as well be wearing a house dress! HAHAHAAAA
when she started talking gear I gave up. It's not about gear. Production, make up styling I agree, but gear.... just selling stuff people don't need
Ms Lindsey Adler i goues you have see many pictures in galeries and many of the pictures did not have to be a concept just a good eye. Please dont tell what is art or what deserve to be art and what not.Do not fool your audience, kind of arogace speak through you.
borrowed from everybody.

Dude everybody borrows from everybody
