Growing Amaryllis in Pots

Beverly Wiemer of The Garden Club of Houston shares some tips on planting Amaryllis in pots with soil for forcing. A perfect holiday gift, it is easy to grow Amaryllis in a pot or in the garden. They can even be grown in water although the water robs the bulb of nutrients needed for the next year's flowering. The Garden Club of Houston, a member of The Garden Club of America, established its first Bulb Mart in 1942. Each fall, The Garden Club of Houston holds the Bulb and Plant Mart introducing many new plants and bulbs to the Houston area.

My amarillis has 5 leaves but no bloom and no sight of a bud coming...what can I do? I've had success with them in the past.

What is crock? Do you just smash a pot for the pieces?

When I bought Amaryllis it was already growing(it was in a box) and its bended..What can I do to make it go straight?

Probably too late for an answer, but if you'll just go ahead and plant the bulb straight, the stem will go ahead and straighten up just fine. I hope you got an answer and that yours flowered for you.

I use plastic pots, clay pots get nasty with salt marks and they turn gross.
