- This series aims to show a typical day of freight workings, from sunrise till sunset, at popular UK train spotting locations around the network.
Episode 4: Chesterfield
Situated on the Midland Mainline between Sheffield and Derby, Chesterfield is host to a large variety or freight, from stone traffic from the Hope Valley, to the now rarified power station traffic and loco moves from Network Rails Derby Technical Centre.

the deltic engines was really built for aircraft/tanks/submarines so they're temperamental in locomotives for some reason!!!
Good point mate, so many potential pitfalls but that sound makes it all worth it when they work!

I live in Chesterfield and had no idea that there is such a variety of traffic passing through the town.
This is exactly why I like to do these kind of episodes to help people see what’s local to them so thanks for that mate. Keep an eye on realtimetrains or rail-record for stuff that’s due through 👍🏻

Nice video Luke. Will never understand why Deltics nearly always seem to go wrong. They're not happy at low speeds because the oil spills out the exhaust (hence the enormous black stain down the side of its body), and if they go too fast, they seem to develop electrical issues.
Temperamental beasts, having two aircraft engines can’t be the most ideal things to keep running smoothly! Cheers mate 👍🏻
Thank you Luke for a great alternative to this election campaign 😂 I started watching these freight locomotives TH-cam videos back in June 2023. There was a gentleman “traindriver Brian”, he disappeared in September and its rumoured he has been run over by his nemesis a class 70 “70003” 😂

Nice to see a goyle out & about on the mainline i love class 31's I think the 120 made were skinheads and didn't have the central head code box's! Nice catch 🥰
I think it’s the last mainline active one if I remember right, very good to see. Skinheads is a blast from the past, saw one at the East Lancs a year or two ago, looked great in the old dark green with a grey roof 👍🏻
I nearly missed this one Luke! Caught up with June DD then realised. Holidays have their place and are enjoyable but … enjoy yours and look forward to the next editions and 24hours.

@@andydavidson9440 It was Western Consort in the shops when I was down there mate. Falcon 2 would have no doubt looked exactly the same in the sanding shop though.

Great angles and love the footage from the over bridge . had to rewind it’s a shame the view was obstructed by the telephone wire .!!😂😂 kept moving with the weight of the trains passing.👏👏👏🥃

Hi Luke great video again but i think you mean chesterfield is located on the midland mainline between Sheffield and nottingham . Derby that bit you go off on the branch line at clay cross 👍
