      You know your company is a scam when you use "average income" instead of "median income" in every single of your MLM's income disclosure statement as it can hide inconvenient data such as if *majority* of agents earn the lower end of every income bracket.
      That's like using nine broke men with $0 net worth and Jeff Bezos with $200 Billion net worth then "conclude" that the average net worth among these ten people is $20 Billion. It's mathematically correct, but statistically deceptive.

    The problem with MLM comes into play when you focus more on recruiting than your product. Certain companies just want recruits, who then buy the product one time, ad infinitum.

  • @dashinghandsomeness
    @dashinghandsomeness 7 ปีที่แล้ว +98

    i don't remember where i read these statistics, but when an MLM keeps track of how much product is consumed by members of the org instead of retailed out of the org to the customer, the average MLM has over a 99% in-org consumption rate. and i've seen firsthand my brother and his upline buy themselves inventory and never end up retailing it out.
    if a company can't show you the in-consumption or retail-out percentages, odds are it's a pyramid scheme with a product attached. and the product failed to pass a market beta test so the company forms a cult around the product(s) so that people will still buy them.

    • @maambomumba6123
      @maambomumba6123 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      not necessarily. Many people join an MLM to do exactly that: buy product or services at insider/member prices. That's why the industry distinguishes between a customer and a representative/affiliate. You don't call Costco or Sam's a pyramid for giving its members insider prices that aren't available to the general public, do you?

      The "you're your own boss" sales pitch is so deceptive because MLM is structured so that the recruiter receives a cut from their recruits to incentivize more recruitment, in that your hard work goes to your boss/recruiter. That catchphrase simply doesn't apply unless you're at the absolute top, just like Patrick who owns his own MLM.

    A mentor once told me, "Always ask ... 'Who is this person, and why should I listen to them?" So the first question I ask who portrays themselves as an "authority" in network marketing is, "Have you built a successful network marketing business, AND ... How many successful leaders have you helped develop who have created a successful network marketing business, AND how many have those developed leaders did the same?" IF they have done this, then you know they are an expert. IF they have NOT, then you really can't take them seriously for your mentorship.
    I LOVE everything said about Entrepreneurship taught on the channel. And I appreciate the attempt to try to teach a bit about the network marketing MODEL. Patrick is right. Network marketing is NOT really an "industry." It's a profession and a unique MODEL, which is a self development program with an opportunity attached. Our business is a LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT BUSINESS, first and foremost. Sadly, this fact and these roots has been nearly forgotten, and has sent the network marketing business in a tail-spin decline over the last 20 years. However, this is being changed.
    The 1 out of 100 succeeding in network marketing can be questioned. It depends on the criteria used. 3% will succeed at nearly anything they intend to succeed at. They already have the personality (the right Wisdom of the Ages mindsets).
    Sadly, 70% (by insurance stats) will die broke ... no matter what.
    However, there are 27% who sincerely want to succeed, but they don't know exactly what to do. These 27% percenters CAN succeed if they're given directional leadership, and given SPECIFIC and EXACT duplicable systems to succeed.
    The "70%er" has a lotto mentality that is easily drawn to network marketing, because it's cheap to get started (barrier to entry is low), and unethical network marketers make claims on how fast and easy it is. These unethical types (many are 3%er alleged "leaders") AND the 70%ers are the source of giving network marketing a bad name.
    Yet, ironically, the network marketing model is one of the best chances for somebody with average means, average intelligence, but with above average ambition ... to succeed beyond their wildest imagination. Robert Kiyosaki says it's one of the best ways for an average worker to learn entrepreneurship.
    However, nobody will succeed in network marketing long-term unless the leadership has personal self development programs and franchise-like duplicable SYSTEMS in place. Without it, leadership will always have too many monkeys on their backs and eventually burn out, and quit, or move to a different company.
    That's why there is a huge void of people in this business with the same company in the 3-9 year range. We call this the 2-10 gap. Until network marketers fix this problem with duplicable systems NOT based on personality, the network marketing business will continue on in it's sad dissipation stage (it's been in for 20 years). Thankfully, this is changing on the grass roots level.
    I recommend to folks who want the No B.S. No "Fluff" truth by a mentor, who has developed more 6-figure earners in network marketing than anybody else in network marketing history, to watch this webinar ... (If you want to hear from a REAL expert who has DONE IT, this is worth the watch)

We then met at Panera and told me about Amway and it's pyramid scheme in detail. He'd often switch the conversation to something I was interested in and whenever I displayed the knowledge on my interest he'd say I was awesome, cool, intelligent, and you're the man. I felt like a god. He said he would send me some information on when a business lecture on Amway would be held at his house. I now know why he was so friendly. don't you think its weird that nobody in these "companies" actually make money? I have met a lot of people involved with multi level marketing and of them are either struggling financially, or only have money because of their spouse having an actual job. I pity the idiots in this comment section who actually belive in these companies. Technically some people make money, but those people are the ones who were part of the compant from the beginning and got lucky.

    The truth is 99.6% of people in MLM companies lose money and they re made to believe it's their fault they're not succeding, while in fact that's not true. The whole goal with mlm's is to recruit and get the recruits to buy the products, not to sell the products. That's why comissions are much higher in recruitment in comparison to straight up direct selling.
    Also, Patrick runs PHP agency, which operates as a MLM. If you read reviews of people who worked in PHP, you ll realize their main focus is also recruiting. That's why one of the first things they ask of new employees is to make a list of people you know who might be interested in working in the company.
    So take this video with a grain of salt. Pat is biased in his analysis given he runs an MLM company.
    Also recommend checking out James Jani's video on MLMs.

    Network marketing is a great opportunity for people who go into it with the right expectations. Most importantly, IT'S HARD WORK.
    The low barrier (usually around $300+) to "owning your own business" usually attracts undisciplined people.

    Network Marketing truly isn't for everybody. It requires individuals to get out of their comfort zone and face the 95% of the individuals who are uneducated on what MLM is. So many people get in MLM for the wrong reasons and they ruin the image of MLM. They try to force people to get in or force their product which shouldn't be the case when recruiting or getting clients or think it's a fast money scheme. They give up so easily and are labeled as quitters in my opinion. Some of the most people successful people in history like Jim Rohn, Anthony Robbins, Robert Kiyosaki, Warren Buffet, Zig Ziglar, George Zalucki etc all endorse MLM. MLM is known as the business for people who like helping others. Those who call it a Pyramid Scheme don't know what they are talking either. The successful people in MLM are one of the most humble people I have ever met. One of the only skillset you truly need to succeed in MLM is personal self development, that's all. The rest is patience.

    Recent court rulings now force MLM companies to make sure their distributors sell products to retail customers as opposed to strictly recruitment of others to sell products. The problem most mlm'ers face is the ability for people to search for similar products at a lower price elsewhere. That's when autoships drop, sales slow down, and people drop out. It's a constant grind to maintain a team.

I thought it was very thoughtful and well research from your own personal experience and that of others. I am proud of my company because we don't paid to recruit but move product through a pipeline to consumers. When I talk to people about our opportunity I talk about the person that might just need a couple hundred buck to improve his family's life. Maybe they just want to get out of debt. But I also tell them that they are going to work hard that they ever have before. I stress that there is no such thing as "Something for nothing.' I also stress the importance of personal development. I tell them that 'Readers are Leaders and Learners are Earners." So as I watched the video, I saw something that I can improve and learn from. World Financial Group couldn't bait me though because they showed their hook too early ... I was invited to one of their local meetings; there their recruited agents and enrollees were coached on how to do their own recruiting. At one point, they were told to get the people they've enrolled to take the licensing exams (for which the recruits have to pay hundreds of dollars, and they would have to complete a series of these licensing exams) as soon as possible. The up-liners said that, after a while, the new recruits would have invested such a substantial amount of time and money in obtaining their licenses that they would be inclined to stay in (the business network) and grind it out (meaning getting them stuck so that they would have to stay and work to sell policies and recruit down-lines even if they have to work hard and long.)

    Hey Man. great stuff you have here. I was actually, thinking on trying to venture the MLM business. No one ever sold me to joined because of all the reason you've just said. I sold my self on weighing the pros and cons about MLM and Network marketing. So thankful I found this video. For I was looking for an information that will definitely help me how to really sell the product, myself and the company. and not the compensation benefit. I'm sick hearing those networkers saying that you'll going to earn this blablabla in just a matter of blabla. I mean, come on! Seriously! Networking or MLM is about selling the product itself not the compensation benefit alone. - Anyway, thanks man! Such a great stuff you have here. Now I'm even more confident in venturing the MLM business. Thanks to you man! I mean, I was selling myself, trying to convince myself that is a great business. I'm actually doing the same thing that you're doing to yourself. "Selling the product or idea or service to your self first before anyone else. And if you can sell it yourself, then you can sell it to others. By the way, do you have any other videos that are great stuff such as this one?

    Here's one thing I know about PBD and this channel. You'll always get the real truth about any topic in discussion. A true testament to PBD and valutainment's credibility.
    As an independent contractor in ACN, I agreed with all points made in this video, especially the 10 year commitment and I can respect the telecom and technology comments you made (the founders of our company are no idiots, they realise what you said the best which is why they got into energy, wellness and personal care and are still going strong today).
    One thing I would love a statistic on is the number of people who quit MLM in their first year, they're the ones who bring the worst name to our industry. Sheer lack of personal growth and dependency on others.
    Love all you do Pat. I hope this video goes viral and all the MLM leaders take heed in what you and other legitimate entrepreneurs educate on!

    This is spot on!! I plan to use this video as a great 3rd party endorsement, so thanks! I 100% agree, and am currently trying to turn around the negative stigma that's associated with network marketers by teaching people how to do it the right way.. In my organization we aren't in the business of recruiting, instead we thoroughly vet and select our candidates. We believe in preparing them for business ownership and giving them a full expectation of what it takes to become successful before we agree to bring them on board. As a team we understand the value that we bring and the great opportunity that we have so we do not prostitute ourselves or our opportunity.
    My business is powered by Amway, the greatest company in the game.. (literally #1 on the DSA list)
    Just wanted to give you a little backstory that you might not know, that sets Amway apart from every other NWM company there is. When Amway was founded It first started with 5 couples that came from another business (that Amway later acquired) (the DeVos', VanAndels, Victors, Hansons and Dutts) they first formed the IBOAI (the business owner association that makes all the decisions).. Only then they went out and found products and formed the company. It is truly we the people, we created the values the company was built on. Every other MLM is company first, then distributors. Our IBOAI board is made up of a majority of IBO's (Independent Business Owners) who are elected representatives of the field, so they outnumber the company representatives, which means no decision can be made to change anything with the company that would fundamentaly affect our compensation without first being approved by IBO majority. There's nothing else like it. Amway has been around for 58 years and paid out over 55 Billion to IBOs. Amway is also debt free and privately held, which means more money paid back to the IBOs, more money into R&D, and more ability to pivot with the market. We have the liquid capital to acquire and adopt winning niches and absolutely blow them up... If you asked about the philanthropic generosity of Amway we'd be here all day, the list is endless.
    Thanks again for getting the truth out there, we tell people this is a 5-10 year process to financial independence (IF you follow what we teach)... It's going to be harder than you think, it might take longer than you think, but the rewards will be better than you can understand. Be great!

    Two problems that usually comes up when someone I know is in an MLM or network marketing:
    1) A desperation to pay bills; and
    2) Political economic proselytizing.
    Maybe that's the goals of some of these companies therefore it does the opposite.

      The only thing I can see here that (maybe changed for the last couple of years rapidly) is that it's good to have an approach of '10 years' but it's not needed to have a success with Network Marketing. For 6 companies that I checked out recently (only in 2 I was involved but checked a few others), I met people with organizations for 10 - 20 k network of people with sustained income of 5-10x the average salary on a full-time job which they worked for 1/3/5/7 years, so they made it faster than the 10 year markup. But yes, this mindset it very good to have at the beginning to understand the entrepreneurship side of it and don't choke with the success but approach it with a clear and rational mind ;) Cheers!

    The biggest thing that always bother me about mlm/network marketing strategies is that the company always tries to sell the opportunity as "entrepreneurship". I agree that there are some viable network marketing opportunities that some may choose is right for them but if you have no control over major company decisions like whether or not a product or service gets discontinued you aren't the entrepreneur. Furthermore at the heart of entrepreneurship is creation and innovation.

    • @teencred9430
      @teencred9430 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree, MLM is not the end-all-be-all for "entrepreneurs". But a select few good ones can certainly get one ready to setup a new team that can deliver an innovative product or service. One way to start that without going through the VERY expensive and time-consuming struggle of building a minimum viable product into a product is to build a sales team, and MLMs were meant for that. There are other ways, but I'd argue any sales training program that gets people to build a credible sales team is gearing people up to become entrepreneurs, MLMs included.

    There's something strange about the stigma on network marketing. They said, "the only way to make money is to recruit." Then WHY THE FUCK CAN'T YOU DO THAT?" 98% either lose money or break even. That's because people don't know how to recruit ethically and can't sell. So let me get this straight, you join in network marketing without the ability to sell and recruit all the while are not willing to self-educate yourself with those skills? OF COURSE, YOU WOULD FAIL, YOU SET YOURSELF UP FOR FAILURE. Of course, I can see the excuse "Well my leaders told me this and that." Guys! You're all independent contractors, the concept of getting FIRED doesn't apply here nor do you have to listen to your "higher-ups." I have never lost money joining any kind of network marketing opportunity, I either make money or break even. Admittedly, there are scams but I know what to look for. Network marketing and MLM existed WAY before pyramid schemes.

    The problem with MOST of these companies is not which marketing tactic they use, its the fact that the company makes its money, selling its REAL product to its sales people. These sales people pay money to join the company. They receive the product. The company could care less if that product makes it to customers. Once a new "consultant" goes through thier network, which is friends and family, and they do pity purchaces of subpar products. After awhile this dries up. Thier sales slow down, and the companies pressure them into purchasing new inventory. You need the newest styles, you need to have a bigger variety they say. You end up paying out of pocket for crap you wont sell. All the events they pressure you to go to, they dont comp those. Air fare, lodging, meals, all out of pocket. This is why 99% fail. You know how the ones who succeed do it? They dont sell, they recruit. Thier downlines use up thier pity purchases, prey on vunerable people with promises to get rich with little effort from home. Like you said, the pyrimid comes from recruitment.
    Bottom line is, they skirt the law, because a product exists. It is only to make it legal, as most of the time, the product is irrelevant, as the company gets its main profit from recruitment, and flooding garages with garbage inventory. Like i said, it doesnt matter if product reaches consumer, thus, it makes the product only good for legality's sake.

THOUSANDS of people from different age and different background succeed in ACN and that's not even an exaggeration. I've met with Doctors, Lawyers, Engineers, full time and part time students, all doing ACN and the atmosphere was incredible. What I mostly love is the leadership on how no one makes money or grows in position if their downline doesn't make money or grow in position either. Also it's the only MLM I know that allows you to already repay your 500$ investment in only 30days and triple it within the 60 days which they call starting bonus. The great point about it is that you aren't selling a new product, you're simply redistributing it like a Costco or Expedia for airplane tickets.

My friend who started ACN only 9months ago invited me to the convention and he did not even expect to be called on stage. He's not rich but he's financially independant knowing he has X amount coming in automatically in his bank account. Also, if you read any book about success, successful people don't look at those who failed, they look and follow those who succeed.

    This is the first video I've seen on your channel. I must say , this is one of the most well organized , if not the most organized video I've seen in a long time. Structured so well. Thank you. Learned so many new key points.
