My mom taught me that with homemade wooden spools, with six pags made from nails. We used natural fibers. I made one about 20 feet long and used it for a bull whip. 😁
This may also be made in-hand, using three or four fingers. The knitting has to be snugged up after each loop, so it's tedious. But it's a good way to relax!
