  • Welcome to the third and latest episode of "Restitution 101"! In this episode, titled "A History of Excuses," we debunk the many historical justifications that have been used to delay or deny the restitution of African cultural heritage. Bringing you something a little different to the previous episodes you have come to love, through a satirical lens we explore the ridiculous lengths some institutions and individuals have gone to to hold on to looted artefacts.
Narrated by Ngwatilo Mawiyoo and featuring the expertise of African archaeologist George Abungu, this episode will not only make you laugh but also challenge you to think critically about the ongoing global restitution dialogue.
Note: The episode refers to the “Declaration on the Importance and Value of Universal Museums”, published by 19 major European and North American museums in 2002. However, numerous sources indicate that the exact number of museums involved in the publication of this declaration is 18.
