This is a great instruction on the basics of how the power grid works soup to nuts. Thank you.

One of biggest takeaways for me: utilities recuperate the capital expenditure of generation plants, and so they opt for low (operating & maintenance + fuel costs) generation plants regardless of initial cap ex.

Interesting. Wonder who his audience was: the mildest, most common-place technical terms are declaimed as being a "nerdy" topic, and he speaks slowly and clearly with many pauses and repetitions (something a good speaker will sometimes do as an aid)

Doesn't electricity want to get back to the voltage source before the ground? (See Mike Holt)

They need to be giving credit to Nikola Tesla, not Thomas Edison. Tesla created AC and proposed transmission lines via high voltage and low current on ACSR.

Electricity dosnt flow to ground. Its not dissipated in the ground. It flows by path of least resistance back to the source. BOOM. DROP MIKE

Great videos! I've watched several hours of Mr. Williams today. However "the wind doesn't blow quite as much as it needs to" shows his lack of understanding of offshore wind if not renewables all together... It's unfortunate when such a knowledgeable individual makes such erroneous statements on a subject that they're not quite as informed about as they should be. It misleads people. Offshore wind struggles mostly for logistical reasons such as maintenance in an area that is as hard to reach and harsh on equipment as the offshore environment is. As well as lack of grid infrastructure and installation in the same harsh conditions.

Why this texas obsession with deregulation? Decentralization is not the same as deregulation, and one could even argue that to get a smarter decentralized grid requires federal oversight. Collective national action won't happe spontaneously in a fragmented deregulated system. Would love to hear a response from someone knowledgeable on the topic

OMG. This is just hard to watch. I heard to questions I was looking for the answers to but this guy I guarantee doesn't have the slightest clue to the answers. "electricity flows through the path of least resistance"

+alexxlee777 Not the path of least resistance.... All paths possible. Some current will go through large resistances even when in parallel with small resistance which will experience most of the current. Seems nit picky though. Why brow beat.
