Thank you for another great discussion, Mark. I read 'A room of one's own' a while ago, but it's a book I've been meaning to get back to again for some time. It's a wonderful piece of writing and I thought very powerful. You can feel how passionate Virginia Woolf felt about the subject through the pages of the book as you read it. It's great!
Virginia Woolf is one of many people from history I would have loved to have had a conversation with. She strikes me as being a very interesting person.
I'm familiar with the name Aphra Behn but unfortunately I don't know very much about her other than her being a writer. As you say, someone to look more into. I'm keen to find out more about her.
Yes, women have had it particularly tough over the years. Thankfully, things are continuing to move in the right direction, mostly. It's good to see so many women becoming published authors these days. 😃
This was wonderful. I'm looking forward to hearing your thoughts on the rest of the book.☺️

Hi. Yes, her passion on the subject certainly comes through. I too wouldn't mind having her over to dinner. Things can only get better... !

Ah, I love Virginia Woolf, what she did with stream-of-consciousness is so haunting. I much prefer Woolf to Joyce, I think. Maybe I just need to spend more time with Joyce, though not sure. And, yes, this is a remarkable essay. Thanks for the spotlight.

I read the book a long time ago in the 80s and it opened my eyes to much discrimination I accepted as natural. Things haven’t changed that much for some women who feel awkward going out socially unless accompanied by a man for instance. I’m going to reread it.

Definitely worth a re-read... I feel both humbled and blessed to be doing so. Shame it took so long, in my case!
