Kamala Harris has called for an end to the Senate filibuster to make good on her pledge to restore the right to abortion through legislation.
The US vice-president, herself a former senator, told a radio station in Wisconsin that eliminating the filibuster - which sets a 60-vote threshold in the 100-seat upper chamber of the US Congress - would be necessary to codify the rights that were enshrined in Roe v Wade, the 1973 supreme court ruling that upheld the right to legal abortion throughout the US until it was overturned by a ruling two years ago.

This is a terrible idea. Once the filibuster is gone, any Senate majority of 50(51), Democrat or Republican, would be able to pass laws and take away laws (with the House as well).
So what? That’s how every other major country does it. If you enact a crazy policy, then voters vote you out in the Midterms or whatever next election.

Both sides benefit from a filibuster historically.
Also, the Roe v Wade was overturned. They need one of two bills to be bipartisan for a potential Harris to sign it. You can’t bring back that exact legislation now since SCOTUS overturned it.
Electoral college is better than the popular vote. Otherwise, votes aren’t represented based on their needs equally throughout the nation. You cannot be dependent on high volume city centers to dictate the direction of the government.
It’s ironic, because Harris supporters believe in “equity” compared to equality. Well, the electoral college is actual equity for election voters. It allows lower populated areas to have their opportunity to voice their needs compared to high populated urban centers dominating.
Like I said. They are oversimplifying something much more complicated and dumbing the public with their rhetoric.

Let the states vote. The citizens of every sovereign state should go to their polling places and vote on abortion rights. The federal government had no business being in the abortion making process. Also only American citizens should vote . D C should remain neutral like Switzerland. The electoral college remains because states like Rhode Island would never have a say. Puerto Rico is poor. Education should always be a priority. Inner cities need to take care of their citizens and families.

I agree with Sonny 100%. Those are issues that NEED to be resolved immediately. I also agree with Sarah and Sonny about the filibuster. The filibuster has been abused for years to protect rights that are protected under the United States Constitution and human rights that should be.

While I agree with Sara and Sunny's view of eliminating the filibuster, I do have the same fears Alyssia has when it comes to laws being passed, then being repealed every two years.
As a man, abortion and reproductive rights are not the top issue for me because those are not issues that I deeply care about. Rather, criminal justice reform, prosecutorial and judicial reform, and police reform are the top issues for me.

If we didn’t already know full well that Republicans are willing to do away with the filibuster when it suits them, then it’d be a different story, but we have already seen them do it. So, the precedent has already been set. I understand the pros and cons of doing away with it to codify Roe into law. However, I tend to agree that we should do it.
