Madoka and the Nutcracker Witch

- One thing that I love about Madoka is how it borrows a lot of elements from various forms of literature. And so when I saw the trailer for "The Nutcracker and the Four Realms", I immediately wanted to use it to highlight the references that the anime (specifically the 3rd movie) makes to the ballet. Homura's witch form is officially known as "Homulilly : The Nutcracker witch", and has minions that are all based on the Nutcracker. And while editing this, I found even more references that I wasn't able to notice while simply watching the anime.
But anyway, I hope you enjoy it. I rushed this a bit to have it ready by the end of Christmas (pacific time), but I'm still pretty pleased with how everything turned out. I wanted to make a cool logo for the trailer, but I decided to scrap that idea for time. I may tweak a few things for the AMV Contest version though.

Someone needs to start a petition to redo the whole nutcracker movie as madoka magica because this is a masterpiece
That sounds like an amazing idea, but it took weeks just to do this 2 minute trailer. A full movie would take years lol

I'm pretty disappointed that kyubey's voice isn't Morgan Freemen in the real dub it works perfectly and also a deep voice on that cute/unsettling face is kinda funny and fitting

I got chills and literal goose bumps, what the hell. Also morgan freeman as Kyubey is something i never knew i needed.

Yup. Everything about it is actually a huge reference to it. That's actually why I made this trailer. Homura's witch form is officially called "Homulilly: The Nutcracker witch". And when she walks down the street, all of her teeth fall out just like in the story of the Nutcracker. There's also scenes that I used where her fallen teeth fire nuts out of their moth :-)
I never saw the Nutcracker and the Four Realms and it's been a long time since I've seen Madoka Magica but I remember how serious and disturbing this anime was and I was lost of words from this masterpiece ❤
The Nutcracker and the Four Realms was a decent movie. If you watch it and come back to this trailer, you'll see the character assignments in a whole new light lol. Especially Homura being Mother Ginger and Nagisa/ Charlotte being the Sugar Plum Fairy.

This trailer let me utterly spellbound. And considering I am sick to absolute death of darker and edgier Burton-ized remakes of classic fairytales, that says volumes about the quality, time and effort coming from this.

I love this, but I see so many clips that I haven’t found while watching the anime and the 3’rd film, are they from the 1 and 2 film or from something else completely
A bunch of scenes are from the concept trailer for a possible 4th Madoka movie. So if you search for "Madoka concept movie", you should be able to find it pretty easily.

I love this video, but : in rebellion the scenario can make you think of the nutcracker : Madoka is a concept like the nutcracker which is an object, but in Homura's "dream", she becomes real and will protect Homura. So Lara should be Homura... Otherwise I love this video, all the sounds and lyrics fit so well ! It's very creative ! 💖💖💖
Thanks! The 3rd Madoka Move is actually based on The Nutcracker. And so that's why Homura's witch form is called "Homulilly: The Nutcracker witch", and her minions are called "Clara Dolls". Also at 1:23, you can see that a bunch of Homura's minions take on the form of teeth that fire nuts (which is a reference to how the Nutcracker broke his jaw on a nut but was fixed by Clara when she gave him her ribbon).

I’m bummed this didn’t win at AB cause I only knew of the initial announcement (with just the title card) for the movie as I never came across any of the trailers so this video has me interested in watching Four Realms.
Four Relalms was OK. I'd give it a B+ . I made sure to watch it so that I could add as many subtle references to it as possible. I love the fact that I made Charlotte/ Nagisa the Sugar Plum Fairy :-)

yeah, hopefully, they'll make it when they're done with the 2nd season of Madoka Magica: Side Story. BTW, if you haven't watched the first season of Side Story, the plot is really confusing, but it has an amazing cameo from Mami near the end.

This is an AMV that I made using footage from the 3 Madoka movies and the concept trailer for a potential 4th movie. And the audio is from the trailer for the "The Nutcracker and the Four Realms" movie that came out in 2018. Since the 3rd Madoka movie is based on the original Nutcracker ballet, I thought that it would be fun to pair them together and highlight their similarities :-)

Three main thoughts when it came to the video:
1. The obligatory thought of comparing this to my Nutcracker and the Four Realms AMV.
2. Kyubey as Drosselmeyer = Princess Tutu vibes.
3. A thought I can’t really say due to spoiler reasons.
yeah, I definitely made Drosselmeyer a lot more manacling by pairing him with Kyubey . In this light, he really is a lot more like the one from Tutu :-)
Of course Kyubey is taking the role that God acted out!!! They’re practically gods themselves!!!

Good job! I can tell it's rushed a bit compared to your other trailers, but it picks up at 00:40 with that money shot. I think this will be awesome with some tweaking. You succeeded quite well with your mood sync though. That's solid.

Yeah, making the character assignments for this video was really fun. The rebellion movie was actually based on the Nutcracker, and Homura is canonically known as "Homulilly: The Nutcracker Witch". Also in the final scenes of the movie, Nagisa/ Bebe is playing next to a sign that says "Land of Sweets"

Coincidentally, when the first trailer for Nutcracker came out, I started editing a AMV to it that had a completely different perspective and made Homura the protagonist. But when the 2nd trailer came out, I stopped working on it, and started over with this one. The first one wasn't nearly as interesting though
