What do you get when you combine water with a homemade electrolyzer and a car battery? BOOM!
In a previous project, I built a generator that uses electricity to convert water into a very powerful fuel. The amount of electricity available determines how much gas can be produced. I've got this hooked up to my car battery and have produced up to 5 liters per minute. I've even tried powering it with a makeshift hand-crank generator, but obviously the gas production is slower. So just how powerful is the gas? Watch the video to find out!
The gas is just a mixture of the H2O molecules broken down into their gaseous elements of two parts Hydrogen and one part Oxygen, which combine as H2 and O2 gas. This is sometimes called HHO, or Hydroxy gas. I used a bbq ignitor to see if the bubbles will pop.
Some people might ask what the purpose of the bubbler is. It helps clean the gas, but more importantly, it acts as a flame arrestor in the event of a flashback. The bubbler cap is just pressed on, so if there's a tiny flashback explosion, the worst thing that happens is the cap pops off. If the bubbler's a little low on fluid then be careful, because now the gas has a place to build up, and if you were to get a flashback in this situation, it could be a little more dramatic. It's helpful to keep the bubbler full, so I made mine detachable for ease of use.

Callum Connolly You have to have a source of electricity to make the gas. So it could be done, but you'd need a generator to power it. And obviously that wouldn't make any sense.

Callum Connolly Actually, they have. Look up Hydrogen Fuel Cell Vehicle. Honda, Chevrolet, Toyota, Hyundai, and Mercedes Benz have been testing them on public roads for years. The problem is they're very expensive to make.

I assume that if one does experiments like this often, you notify all of your immediate neighbours and those in the next community, too, and more importantly notify the police in those areas as well to be aware of loud noises due to educational experimentation with electrolysis. xD

This man was actually a goddamn genius. I started watching his videos a long time ago maybe when I was liek 8-9 and didn’t know what was going on. Now I’m 17 and I understand and it’s astonishing how this man created this stuff in his garage. I plan on replicating this on a large scale in hopes to maybe power a lawnmower with the hydrogen.

Make a linear particle accelerator of about 32.2 feet in length. Fill the starting chamber with hydrogen gas and on the target end have a thin nickle plated target. Turn the accelerator on and let the accelerated hydrogen protons continually bombard the nickle plated target up until nickle hydride has formed in and throughout the nickle target. Keep your electromagnets cold with liquid nitrogen so that a sequenced on/off (0/1) signal meets no or least resistance. I think is more secure, the bubbler is still needed even just to know if the generator is working.
