Thanks Andrew. I totally agree. RRP has a less headline making effect on the monthly payments but they are going up at the time when disposable incomes are going down by a similar amount. And 0.5% interest rate rise today won't help. APR has gone up from 5.9% to 9.2% now with VW. Manufacturers dropped prices in the past (90s maybe) and might have to do it again. I can't help thinking they want to sell half the cars as before and make the same amount of profit (or more) which helps keep their fleet average emissions down. On this basis they absolutely gave away Mk7s. You could lease for £7k for 2 years. Now dealers are marking up R 20 years £10k over its already inflated RRP!! It only seems like yesterday I bought my Mk8 Clubsport for £32k brand new and a had the pick of loads of them because nobody was buying - and let's not forget, that was post covid when there was a lot of cash floating around. 2023 is going to be interesting, especially if new car supply comes on stream.
Agreed, I'm lucky to have an old Porsche in garage but can't justify trading in my golf TDI from 2005 for an overpriced mark 7.5 or new car with awful quality and awful in car entertainment and crappy.sliding heater controls
When he puts the White golf R in ring mode and you hear the exhaust right when he pushes the button…..ahhh sweet bliss…then he dumps the pedal….”Jesus”….so good
The acrapovic exhaust should be standard on the R20 and not an option. For me this R adds too little value for its price to choose this over a normal Mk8 R.
Problem is they will stick £3k on for the Akrapovic and we'll be over £50k and we don't even have DCC. If they really want to sell them (I ain't so sure) then they'll have to discount them. What we need is supply exceeding demand which hasn't been the case for 18 months now but it will change. What are all the workers in Wolfsburg doing instead of making Golfs?
I would love to upgrade my MK7 R to the R20 but £600 a month and 10k down is hard to justify. Crazy how much cars have jumped in price over last few years. Great review though as always 👏🏻👏🏻
Why not trade your Mk7 in? It’s worth more than the deposit and hopefully a further £10k off the financed amount. Not cheap but that exclusivity will keep its value up.
The Racingline Stage 1 looks bonkers quick. Prefer the MK8 Golf overall now, having driven a few application’s. Think I can agree we’d all like to see the 20 R on the dyno.
Bonkers quick is about right! Video 1 will be Racingline R and then I will try and get the R20 back for dyno so we can see how it compares to stock R which I've already dynod, can't wait
Turn off the car whilst in Special, when you start it, it does exactly the same thing as the R20 without all the fidgeting with break and holding button etc
Thank you for your video and comparison. I myself am currently driving the Golf 8 R Performance with Akrapovic exhaust system every day since July 2021 and I am more than satisfied. Before that I owned and drove all Golf GTI models and R models. When I look at the video, I don't really see any significant difference between the Golf 8 R Performance and the 20-year edition. Except for a little more bang and bang at launch. The 13 hp more will not really make itself felt in daily operation. Actually, 320 hp should be enough in a Golf ;-) Of course, there is always more to do with tuning. But then at some point I can also buy a full-fledged sports car or a Porsche etc. The Golf doesn't get 400 hp and more on the road and is completely nonsensical.
Hi, it's true, there isn't a massive difference but it's about the details that add up to make it a nicer package and better value. For example, the leather adds to the RRP of the 20 years for sure but because it holds its value better than a base R with extra cost leather, it costs less to finance. You probably got your car before prices went up so it will be even cheaper to finance. I don't think VW wanted 8R owners to be desperate to swap to R20 years especially when there are loads of cars on order and not yet built.
Question is, does the tuned Golf also feel better in terms of Turbolag? Because honestly if the tuning is "only" 700 pounds then why wouldi not buy a 20 years with the better pull from factory already and then also tune it so it would be mega sharp?
It's possible that VW are making a big fuss about it on R20 because it's part of the standard spec which is the first time as PP has always been optional. The press information hasn't made that clear.
I ordered 1 deep black pearl dsg. MSRP $47,641, they add mark up 10%. $52,405 then the state tax $4,388. Total $57,651 Do you think this is worth it? Thank you for the answers
Please don’t stop making the videos Andrew. I’ve got VAG in my blood and I’m a recently qualified tech done my apprenticeship with one of the group brands. Really enjoy watching your content.
Thanks Dan, means a lot especially from someone who lives with the cars day in day out. You do need to get momentum in this job to make it worthwhile though and how late I am getting behind wheel of the R 20 when I have one of the leading VW channels in UK just shows you hard it is. Timing is crucial because if people have seen it all before from other channels then they won't watch your content. In these situations all I can do is make it better/more informative/more detailed videos and offer fair and balanced criticism where due, to help buyers make informed decisions and hope that's enough. Postive comments like yours keep me going though so thanks so much 👍
@@volkswizard yeah I totally understand what you are saying. No problem. I think your reviews are well balanced. I have been watching for a few years now and I can see that you know your stuff about VAG cars 😀
My 66 plate Golf R with pan roof, dcc, prets, met paint, nav, winter pk, was £29k new (after discount). £20k more for the latest R 6 years later. I know this new one is faster with better tech etc but £20k, a big jump. I spec'd an R to £46k, got that down to £41k so not too bad but it's still £580/ month with £3k down. Golfs are now RS3 money, RS3's are now Porsche money but most of us are still earning Polo money.
Hi Andrew. Got the 23 calendar already displayed in the home office. Looks fab. Great Type R review/comparison. Prices are a bit steep. Think that's a common reply with other followers tbh. Will stick to my Mk8 GTI with RL additions for now! Merry Christmas to you and all other subscribers.
Thanks Tony - for commenting, viewing and of course buying a calendar! Mk8 GTI with RL additions sounds perfectly fine to me, to think they were around £30k new! Apparently the remap which has just been released does wonders to the 245 GTI's performance which appears to have been hobbled by VW for marketing reasons. And it does have the VAQ diff so traction should be....less.... of an issue 🎅
8V RS3 is a very nice road car but it's a bit heavy over a front axle and doesn't really have a clever rear axle to over come that (although my facelift one would do a bit of torque vectoring). On the road it's fine but track it and it's just a case of managing understeer. But considering very few people track their cars that's less of an issue than the press make out. You've got me looking at FL 8Vs on Autotrader now, see ya...😁😁
I have the mrk7 R and its been an absolute joy to drive and absolutely love it. Im still not sold on the mrk8 shape mmmmmmm but still a great car no doubt
R works for me in the winter when all that additional hardware serves a purpose, in the summer it's just additional weight/fuel consumption/servicing/repair costs. The in gear performance of normal 8 R is pretty much identical to Clubsport, in fact some have recorded CS as faster. Right through from Mk5 onwards, I always take GTI over R for same reasons. Also cheaper to buy. GTI's also seem to steer better and be allowed to be a bit more hardcore than R which is marketed as being a bit more sophisticated and upmarket, more of an autobahn car. In Mk4 though it's R32 FTW I made a video comparing 8CS to 8R which will explain it better than here. Should be a link in this video or easy to find. However I really like this R 20 when I was a bit unsure about the normal 8 R but can't justify the cost now which is frustrating!
People complain about the MSRP, before you do so, check how much was a 2019 MK7 R, around 40K...! New! buying a used MK7 R, 2019 with 25,000 miles is around $36,000!!!! 4k less for a 4 yr old car, 1k per yr depreciation!!! What do you expect, to be sold at 40k new? Not too many cars from 2019 have a 4k loss, most average 10 to 15k. Years ago I purchased a Rav4, the same car now is about 8k more new. No car holds the same MSRP of its predecessors.
Most definitely. If VW want to look they will be able to spot it. It's only fair that it should do so as a bad remap can do a lot of damage. That's why you go to a trustworthy firm like Racingline but it will still leave a trace.
It's expressly forbidden and I can't recommend anyone paying £500+ per month to invalidate their warranty as they will have a car they may not be able to afford to fix and can't drive, and be committed to paying the finance for it. However if you are buying at end of PCP or you have funded in some other way like a personal loan and can afford any repairs whether in or out of warranty then go for it.
I’m hoping to see some performance numbers when the weather is better. 0-60, 0-100, 0-100-0. I’m sure it will be a riot at the track. I’m also curious with all that power, how quick the temps creep up.
@volkswizard, do you feel this "punch" when changing gears only in manual mode, or is it the same in the auto shifts mode? I When both car is in "Race". I believe it should be the same in auto mode as in the standard Golf 8 R, because this "punches" could become annoying. Let me know! Thanks.
When racing in Milton Keynes done my mk7 golf r stage 2 tune they f*** it up badly!! And when they put the figures the car was suppose to be doing it was running wel under it's performance!! When i question them they just bloked me!! NEVER GOING TO THEM AGAIN!!!!!
That’s weird because Racingline don’t actually do any customer work, you have to go to an agent. Are you sure it wasn’t a Racingline agent? Whatever, every single business has bad days and best to sort it out through the proper channels.
@@volkswizard i went through a company but i don't want to name them cause they wasn't the problem. They had the car back 3x and in the end i got my money back and went to a better company and never had a problem since. I know a few golf r had a problem with there maps cause i put it on a vw site.
Does that high revving start happen when the engine is cold & not having been used for some time? I wouldn't want to fire my cold engine up immediately to 2500 RPM with the essential lubricating oil sitting in the sump.
I didn't notice it being any different hot or cold. It's not massively high revs but you want as low as possible when cold I guess. Thinking about it, when engines are cold and have revs limited (Audi RS for example), you can still rev to 5000 rpm straight away so 2500 isn't going to be restricted. Just like using high revs when cold, it's up to you to be sensible as you choose whether to do it or not
@@volkswizard I suppose if you have it on a 3 year PCP or lease deal with the standard manufacturers warranty and will hand it back after then you won't be bothered what damage has been done to an engine thrashing it from cold.
Does turbocharging 4-cylinder engines and tuning them out to 300 or 400 bhp shorten their lives? It seems to me there must be costs or tradeoffs. The candle that burns twice as bright lasts half as long.
Glad it was helpful. I’ll never be the first to review a car these days as influencers who won’t criticise get priority but when I do I like to try and give people more info 👍
Nice review Andrew. The price of these cars is starting to get silly. For me I think they could of put the word 'Anniversary' next to the R on the dagger badge and also under the 20 on the B pillar. Anyway, so making the turbo have 'anti-lag' and have this flap stay open does seem to improve performance and grin factor and let's face it, thats what us petrol heads want from our performance car. If I was to buy the R20 it would be in Lapiz blue with the black accents and wheels. A further review of the Racingline R would be good or even their mk7.5 GTi #racingline
Thanks Darren, agreed re price. They could have done a lot more I guess if only on the inside like a plaque of some sort, doesn't need to be numbered. Oh well, only 5 years to the next R Anniversary! I respect them for doing stuff under the bonnet but the question remains, why didn't they do this before to other cars? Is it bad for the turbo? That's a classy spec, I'd go white with blue - I'd quite like black but not the TLC it requires, did it once, never again.
@@volkswizardI was thinking it’s bad for the turbos lifespan. I’ve had an anti lag system custom ofc and over time it wrecked the turbos so now I just run a hybrid.. less power less lag as well so it’s fine for my daily
Great review Andrew, and yes if I had the money I'd buy 1to have for the winter months, and keep my now tuned mk7 gti performance pack for the warmer months. Also got to have 1 of your calendars. Have a great Christmas 🎄 😀.
Great tip about the emotion start! Love my mk8R it pulls and pulls but the chance to take it to stage 1 with over 400bhp is going to be too hard to resist. I think you should do a full review of the new ecu tune. You got me scrolling through racingline webpage thinking I’d missed the big release. Hopefully they have a DSG tune to run side by side with it when it’s launched. 🤙🏼
Great video; cynical marketing I would say, I got to £52,195 just picking sensible options. DCC should be standard surely? Engineering is great obviously but the throttle/turbo/gear changes I doubt would hang onto their novelty value after a couple of months of driving. Keep up the good work!
Thanks Paul. The thing is that the base R with leather and PP would only be £700 less and to finance it the R20 would be cheaper whilst it's no bargain special edition, it's not necessarily any worse than the base R unless you really want cloth interior. I think VW are being careful how they pitch it because there have never been so many cars on order and not built and VW don't want R20 to appear a bargain as those awaiting normal Rs might get even more annoyed. I think the throttle/turbo/gear change tweaks are a bit addictive as when you are in the mood, they make the car a lot more exciting to drive which is what the R needs.
Great video. A question, in your opinion (as you have bought/sold VWs for a number of years) would remapping a Golf devalue it when it comes to sell it? I've got a 7.5 GTi Performance and thinking of getting a stage 1 but worried it may have a negative impact when it comes to selling it.
Great video! Answered the questions on a lot of our minds! Sadly, at that price for a Golf. As much as I love Golf’s. You are open to a lot of other cars, at the price of a well spec’d R20. Who would have thought, a Golf would retail at that sort of price… 😅 Still! Amazing evolution over the 20 years of R ❤❤❤
Thanks! The idea was pin down a lot of the hard facts about the R 20 which other reports hadn't mentioned or got wrong. A lot of people assumed blue wheels were forced upon you and other reports have inferred DCC is standard. As for the price, I hope VW see that nearly every comment refers to it but until supply of cars out of the Wolfsburg plant ramps up they are clearly charging a premium for the few cars they can build. It's got to change soon so let's keep our fingers crossed for some discounting before the build run ends in mid-2023👍
Calendar purchased... looking forward to it.. would be nice to see you doing a full shakedown of the Racingline Mk8. Have you really had that jacket for 20 years?.
Hopefully they will pull their fingers out in WOB during 2023-there are already numerous non-performance VW models in stock in the UK so that's a good sign.
Thanks Paul. Dyno would be an interesting exercise. Racingline were surprised it has a different code for R20, it's the last of the 4 digits that is different which means software changes not hardware. The funny thing is that stock 8R was producing over 333 PS all day long so they didn't need to release a new engine but they did. Hence why this needs to be investigated!
I kept my Mk8 R for just over a year and decided to Sell in on, I love driving it, but i just cannot get on with the system inside, way too many faults and constant errors, lag etc.. a real shame... This 20 year edition is nothing special imo im afraid , that black console is terrible, 50k plus, no thanks
@@FeN1xDD I think it was , it was one of the first Mk8 golf R in the country and during covid , this was apparently why it was faulty with the blame put on cheap microchips , I now drive a mk8 clubsport and no issues at all and love it
@@FeN1xDD I love golf’s and I was offered a great deal on the clubsport , it’s new one of the last built , I’ve had it for 6 months and no issues , more exciting to drive than the R imo
Australia. 5 years warranty.at the moment drive a TCR.but the golf here is loaded standard. so the R will have leather performance pack, 19"wheels as standard. cost 41.000 pounds. but cant option exhaust. never could. same as the TCR 19" wheels pan roof cost 31.000 pounds. i find it under powered. so what ever i buy has to be remapped.
I really enjoyed that, especially your face while driving the 20years R! Would love to see a full review of Racingline's car - and hopefully they'll get an R 20years to do a re-map of as well...?
Thanks, yep R20 was a revelation, not sure it will be do much fun in warm dry conditions when it's not struggling for traction though, we shall see. Thanks for the Racingline vote, I'm sure an R20 will get the benefit very soon too 👍
As an owner of a 7.5R I always look at the MK8 Platform for a future upgrade. I think this R 20 years when I start seeing them 1-2 years old and approved used I'd be interested. Maybe a slight price drop too. Seems like a worthy upgrade. Although, 8R performance packs still hold strong money a few years down the line so who knows what the future will hold.
Given that the R20 is more fun than the standard R, I’d love to know how you feel it compares to the mk8 clubsport? Would you say the clubsport is still more engaging?
Thats a *great* question - I think weather plays a part in it, I drove 8 R in the dry in April 2021 and it felt inert, you couldn't unstick it while Clubsport was easier to reach the limits in which made is a lot more exciting - ultimately playing with the limits is what makes cars fun and engaging. At -1 degrees it's a different story, Clubsport would be very TC dependent while R can make use of its torque vectoring at far lower speeds than in the dry. An alternative is to fit the worst tyres you can find to the R for summer and it might be more fun then but good summer tyres, greasy winter roads it's a lot of fun. The UK press cars where largely assessed in the spring and summer of 2021 so that might explain the relatively tepid reviews. I wouldn't choose to review a £50k 333 PS car in the conditions I did but I had no choice and I am so glad I did.
Good idea using the roundabouts, that car really does look fun. I'm trying to work out whether I'll still be alive by the time I can afford a used one...
Thanks, there was zero way I driving in hard on the back roads of Beds and Bucks! They will come down in price quite quickly once 2023 kicks in. Mortages up again, energy super expensive and being used in great amounts over past 2 week, usual post christmas bank balance damage. At least petrol is creeping down but it's not going to have much of an effect with above chipping away at consumer confidence and interest rates not only affecting mortgages but car finance costs.
@@volkswizard yes but fuelwon't go back to where it was, that hardly ever happens. Same with food. And we notice that price of things go up, even if they're unaffected by inflationary factors. That's profiteering . Never used to notice much. I do now. Have a great Xmas/NY !
I have a mk7 R with 406bhp, and the power on song, is like being kicked in the back, and being tied in with 4wd its awesome 👌 But 50k for a golf is crazy.
It's good to see that VW have done a proper special edition car for the R, unlike the Edition 45 GTi. The price of these cars now is becoming a bit ridiculous now (although factors like exchange rates, etc, probably play their part). I had nearly £4k of options on my Mk7.5 R Estate - which took it to a list price of around £41500 (also nowhere near what I actually paid for it). Deposit was a low mileage Mk7 GTD (near the end of the PCP agreement) hatch plus £1k. This was only March 2020, so not that long ago - the monthly payments are a lot more too. You make an excellent point re the R20 v an optioned up standard R though - a good way to justify an R20! I can't see me buying one - I'll just pay about £12k & buy my own car at the end of the PCP in 2024. The Nappa leather definitely lifts the interior - good to have that as standard. I could live without the bangs & pops though (I've never liked that, just a personal thing). One big deal breaker for me - no R20 Estate, I believe?
Hi Andrew, new to your channel; really enjoyed your review. I have a Golf R with Performance Pack and numerous other options on order, which I placed at the end of June, just before the option was withdrawn. I contacted my VW dealer to get assurance that my spec would be honoured at the end of the 50+ weeks I was given as time to delivery. Have any of your followers taken delivery in the last few months and had the Performance Pack supplied as requested?
As someone with a 2022 Golf R I feel this is a kick in the face to us as, There is probably no hardware changes for the new turbo " antilag" and is an ECU map and something that VW should be flashing to all of the MK8 golf R's as at least a new driving mode like the Nürburgring mode
Are the R badges Jazz blue? Looks like it to me, the calipers on the Mk4 R32 were also jazz blue as a nod to the original VW test cars unique colour I believe. As shown at 0:23
Good point as it's not Lapiz. Thing is Jazz is a pearl effect and those bits look like a solid colour, it's pretty close though. Maybe someone more nerdy can find the exact colour code...?🤓
Fantastic episode thankyou.. would be great to see a review of the Racing line R… I’m still planning on Racinglining my Polo GTI plus.. Wished the did an R option of the polo..
Hi Andrew another great video I’ve enjoyed this one and whilst the price tag is beyond me I do like the anniversary R20 very much and I like the lapiz blue and white combo it suits it in my view I think Volkswagen have given you enough over the standard R to justify price and the more powerful engine as well I would love to see more of racing lines car it’s only got 350hp more than my 1.5tsi lol 😂I bet it is real fun! I did think it would be fab to do a 20 year comparison of the 8R 20 and the R32! Keep going Andrew your channel is like no other it’s ideal for VW nerds like me and also your passion for the cars comes over and that for me is what is the difference keep up the hard work and of course happy Christmas to you and Kate and all the very best for the New Year 🎄🎄🎅🎅
Thanks Daniel, you are too kind👍Pistonheads have done a comparison of 8R and R32, hard to beat that but if the stars align I’ll be onto it for sure. Have a great Christmas and 2023 🎄
Great to see you back Andrew. The first carbon fibre inlays in a Volkswagen? My 2016 CC R line black edition came with carbon interior trim from factory.. ;-) The Racingline car is simply awesome, and a credit to them. Still on the fence about the mk8 Golf in general, but really enjoyed the content.
Thank you so much! Glad you enjoyed it. The first time Carbon fibre came from VW in Germany but 2016 seems like an eternity ago considering the hiring and firing that has gone on in VWG since then. Going to research that right now👍Full vid on racingline 8 R should go live this week, maybe that will convince you 🤞
It certainly was Andrew. :-) Thank you for the reply. I really look forward to the racingline 8R review. I always respect your honestly in the tests you do.
I remember that down under we only got the R around may this year. Local dealer had a black one but not for sale until another arrived for show. Price not discussed. Another dealer told me $80k. Performance pack standard down under. But no Akrapovic exhaust option. GTI for $70k and T-roc R $71k. So way out of my range. Not sure we will get 20 anniversary cars.

@@volkswizard making electric cars sadly. they are reducing workforce dedicated to ICE cars in order to lower production times for electric cars
I would love to upgrade my MK7 R to the R20 but £600 a month and 10k down is hard to justify. Crazy how much cars have jumped in price over last few years. Great review though as always 👏🏻👏🏻
Totally agree, let's hope the deals come back. This is not a limited car so they might make more than they get factory orders like they did with old R
I'll keep your mk7 cause it's full of plastic on the inside and looks cheap still 🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️
Why not trade your Mk7 in? It’s worth more than the deposit and hopefully a further £10k off the financed amount.
Not cheap but that exclusivity will keep its value up.
Have some patience, wait 2 years then you should get a far better finance deal!!
The Racingline Stage 1 looks bonkers quick. Prefer the MK8 Golf overall now, having driven a few application’s.
Think I can agree we’d all like to see the 20 R on the dyno.
Bonkers quick is about right! Video 1 will be Racingline R and then I will try and get the R20 back for dyno so we can see how it compares to stock R which I've already dynod, can't wait
and I cant believe u r driving in my old haunt of MK, used 2 work there for 25yrs , glad 2 escape it in 2006, those bloody roundabouts lol!!
Those roundabouts do have a perverse pleasure to them. I gather the good people of MK chomp through nearside tyres at twice the pace of offside!
My Golf R mk8 is stage 1 and she eats everything!!!!
hang on a minute, they making the 20 R but have a massive backlog of orders for the normal MK8 R. STOP MAKING THE 20 R AND MAKE MORE NORMAL R'S PLS
Actually, 320 hp should be enough in a Golf ;-)
Of course, there is always more to do with tuning.
But my normal 8R in Nurburgring mode with DSG in S+ or M does gives you that jolt on the upshift as well.
performance pack...
a standard 8R wont do it
It's possible that VW are making a big fuss about it on R20 because it's part of the standard spec which is the first time as PP has always been optional. The press information hasn't made that clear.
That exhaust sound is so beautiful.. as well as the car.

When is the oem+ available 1729
Let’s see the racing line R review 👍👍
OK sir 👍👍
I ordered 1 deep black pearl dsg. MSRP $47,641, they add mark up 10%. $52,405 then the state tax $4,388. Total $57,651
Do you think this is worth it? Thank you for the answers
What about a tuned R20? Will that out perform the tuned R?
It's more responsive due to colder weather
Brilliant video the R is head and shoulders above every other car in their stable 😀
How does the tuned 8R compared to a stock RS3?
The R20 has petrol particulate filter?
Still better off with a used 8V RS3 if you want a nice spec car with a special engine
Andrew, why do you say a "GTi man at heart"? Does the R just not work for you, especially in the MK8 guise?
R works for me in the winter when all that additional hardware serves a purpose, in the summer it's just additional weight/fuel consumption/servicing/repair costs. The in gear performance of normal 8 R is pretty much identical to Clubsport, in fact some have recorded CS as faster.
Right through from Mk5 onwards, I always take GTI over R for same reasons. Also cheaper to buy.
GTI's also seem to steer better and be allowed to be a bit more hardcore than R which is marketed as being a bit more sophisticated and upmarket, more of an autobahn car.
In Mk4 though it's R32 FTW
I made a video comparing 8CS to 8R which will explain it better than here.
Andrew, will the racing line tune effect the factory warranty?
Most definitely. If VW want to look they will be able to spot it. It's only fair that it should do so as a bad remap can do a lot of damage. That's why you go to a trustworthy firm like Racingline but it will still leave a trace.
As most of these cars are on some sort of lease plan. Is modifying them allowed?
It's expressly forbidden and I can't recommend anyone paying £500+ per month to invalidate their warranty as they will have a car they may not be able to afford to fix and can't drive, and be committed to paying the finance for it. However if you are buying at end of PCP or you have funded in some other way like a personal loan and can afford any repairs whether in or out of warranty then go for it.
as a mk6 gti owner that looks forward to a R. why do you prefer a gti?
Rather than a 1000 words here is a video explaining all 👍
th-cam.com/video/7vEtg8HNBSI/w-d-xo.html
Here in belgium, with akrapovic and so on, 69000 euro hahaha I guess VW doesnt want to sell them
I’m hoping to see some performance numbers when the weather is better. 0-60, 0-100, 0-100-0. I’m sure it will be a riot at the track. I’m also curious with all that power, how quick the temps creep up.
Don’t like the black alloys
Great video man. Does the gearbox give you a shove in the back on up shifts ?
Thanks! Ooh it’s been in a while since I drove it so best to look carefully at the footage. Porsche ones do in Sport Plus, not sure VW ones do
@volkswizard, do you feel this "punch" when changing gears only in manual mode, or is it the same in the auto shifts mode? I When both car is in "Race". I believe it should be the same in auto mode as in the standard Golf 8 R, because this "punches" could become annoying. Let me know! Thanks.
Yes please do a full review!!
What a machine it is with a remap!
Thanks Rich, support is very strong for this which is very good news 👍
@volkswizard I'm sure racing line would love you to do a full review ;)
Good question
Would be great to see a full review of the racing line upgrade 🤟
Thanks Neil, it's going to happen so sit tight 👍

That's just Crazy. I've got to do that again.......
Anyone know when the Golf will receive its midlife update and if that will see the return to cabin/wheel buttons?
Remarkable machines....
Thanks for putting this together. No one had done this comparison and review on whether it was worth it!
Glad it was helpful. I’ll never be the first to review a car these days as influencers who won’t criticise get priority but when I do I like to try and give people more info 👍

That will be interesting for sure
Sounds like a plan Musti, a very good 2 car garage. Thanks for the calendar order, in the post tomorrow. Have a very good one yourself sir 🎅
Good lord the blue leather and fake carbon on the seats looks tacky
Always put back to stock to sell. Racingline will do this FOC with their maps
@@volkswizard thanks for the advice, most appreciated.
50k for a golf 😆
It's all about the monthlies (which TBH are still pretty terrifying)
Great video!
Answered the questions on a lot of our minds!
Sadly, at that price for a Golf. As much as I love Golf’s. You are open to a lot of other cars, at the price of a well spec’d R20.
Who would have thought, a Golf would retail at that sort of price… 😅
Still!
It's got to change soon so let's keep our fingers crossed for some discounting before the build run ends in mid-2023👍
have you done one on the estate version of the r 7.5 . happy new year to you.
I’d rather buy a 3 year old BMW M5 with low mileage for 50k

Awesome! Thank you, that's very kind of you👍
great video. that 20 on the pillar looks shite.
What about the 18 month delivery time???
Hopefully they will pull their fingers out in WOB during 2023-there are already numerous non-performance VW models in stock in the UK so that's a good sign.
@@volkswizard ordered my R on 15 October 2021 and it might get built in April 2023 although still no actual build week
Love the R but still not sure about the dashboard 👍🇦🇺
You get used to it Lee and then you miss it when you are in something else. I don't own one now so it's not owner bias (a common phenomenon!)
Definitely do a full test of the Racingline Golf. I've got a Cupra Formentor VZx arriving in a month, so i'll be signing up for this tune on it.
Good work, top vlog as usual. You have got to get the 20R on the dyno
I kept my Mk8 R for just over a year and decided to Sell in on, I love driving it, but i just cannot get on with the system inside, way too many faults and constant errors, lag etc.. a real shame... so the R will have leather performance pack,
19"wheels as standard.
cost 41.000 pounds.
but cant option exhaust. never could.
same as the TCR 19" wheels pan roof
cost 31.000 pounds. i find it under powered.
so what ever i buy has to be remapped.
I think these Golf must be always original
I do now.

Fuck me...he can talk!
The black accents look really good 👍
It's not a bad looker now with bigger wheels and the big spoiler, how it always should have been
I have a mk7 R with 406bhp, and the power on song, is like being kicked in the back, and being tied in with 4wd its awesome 👌
But 50k for a golf is crazy.

My main take away is to get this car in white, so that you can actually see the subtle 20th-anniversary blue badging.
A stunner , but I couldn’t justify the extra wedge over my 7.5r ❤. Another great video , keep them coming, happy Xmas and new year 🎉
