Tetelestai - The Suffering of Jesus

  • Jesus cried out “Tetelestai” right before he gave up his spirit. This Greek word was used as a legal term to confirm that a matter had been settled or paid in full. The price Jesus paid for our sins was unsurpassed suffering. The Father handed him over to brutal men who were skillful to destroy (Ezekiel 21:31). Scourging was the most savage punishment the Roman Empire inflicted. Jesus suffered until he no longer looked human (Isaiah 52:14). That was the price to purchase our forgiveness. A price that reflects the gravity of our sin and the immense value we have in God’s eyes.
