Yeah I was glad he was willing to take this on, being it was his first time with this particular FDU. I'll take a guy who "knows gears" over a guy who just followed the manual a couple of times.
Love that you guys did this. I too was under the impression that we couldn't regear lower than the stock 4.70 M210 ratio. Definitely something in my future now!
Very happy you guys are upgrading with the electronic lockers. I have a Big Bend with open diffs and was starting my list of what I would need to collect to do the upgrade for locking diffs. Looking forward to seeing the journey you guys will be sharing with us and I will be taking notes to help me out with my own conversion.
Ford performance for the m220 direct from ford has the hearing kit to do 5.13 and 5.35. I have 37’s on my badlands Sasquatch, and upgraded my gears to 5.13 with ford performance. Had my ford dealer do it to maintain full factory warrant at time of bronco purchase. Since all parts and service were done by ford.
Having a base 7 speed i use slippery mode when wheeling. Also on 35s i found using slippery mode in crawl gear will lock it up by using the abs to lock up the wheels. I have a 10 percent grade i go up when i leave my house the plow won't go down when it's iced over the bronco go's up or down no problem even on stock tires. Try slippery mode before you use your lockers you will be surprised how it works. Just like toyota a trac.

I went front 35's to 37's on my Badlands recently and I haven't done any re gearing. I have the M210 with 4.7. Is it recommended to jump to 4.88 or will the 4.7 do just fine?
Going to 4.88 from 4.7 will hardly be noticeable. There will be little felt difference in DD from 4.7 to 5.13. The biggest gain will be in off road and TQ delivery sooner. IMO if you are only going to run 37 4.7 is fine. 5.13 is a bit over geared so splitting hairs
They didn't, at the time of that video. At that time the conventional wisdom was that they wouldn't fit, a "fact" that had been circulated by various trusted sources, albeit based only on gearsets that were available at the time those claims were originally made.
Yes you can run 37's with 4.70 gears and lots of folks do. But I had to re-gear anyhow so I chose what I believed would be the optimal gear ratio for this combination.
No, they physically didn't fit the case, back when that bit of common knowledge was circulating, because the only gears available were for the Jeep M210. As you can see in the video, these gears specifically made for the Bronco M210 do fit, but yes it is a tight fit. Will it affect oiling? I guess we'll find out. But Ford seems confident enough in it as they now offer factory set-up M210s with this gear ratio and even deeper 5.38 through Ford Performance. It's important to note that the ring gear is still the same diameter as any other gear ratio M210 ring gear. It's just thicker.
Lucky to still have guys like Mike to help. The experience is impressive.

Yeah I kept running into that supposed bit of knowledge myself.
Excited to see how this performs on the trail
Us too! It will be a little while though before we button it all up. Waiting on a few other bits and bobs :)
What a pleasure to watch a master a work. I appreciate the content you guys bring to the Bronco community💯
Thanks for the props! Yeah Mike is fun to watch (and listen to).

I'm glad you're finding the information useful! I should have the rest of the items I need soon, so we can continue with this project.
Glad it worked! Looking forward to seeing you on the trail soon.
We'll be installing the re-geared axles sometime in December. Until then we've still got more wheeling to do with 4.46 and open diffs :)

Good for you! We're poor so we pieced everything together and did the work ourselves :)

I have used slippery mode on occasion.

Dang I'm pretty close to the FourXDoctor.. i'll have to see if he can do my suspension
Let him know we sent you! Even though he's a "Jeep guy", Mike's been a friend and supporter of our So Cal Broncos community for many years.
Wow great video on swapping a front locker and gearing! Without the hero switch, do you just wire the electric locker to an aux switch?
Yes my plan is to simply wire it to either one of the AUX switches or to another rocker switch.

I don't know why people think they don't fit. Ford sells bigger gears for those gear boxes. Ford sells up to 5.88 I believe.

Can u not run 37s with the m210 with 470 or do u need to run 513

Pretty sure the issue isn’t gears fitting, it’s the gears fitting to tight and not leaving enough room for oiling causing premature failure.
