There was probably some degree of trust that the local law enforcement units would implement such checks within their own chain of command. After this incident, I suspect there will be procedures to have more SS verification of the local police. However, it also sounded like the local LEOs were claiming that the SS had _not_ informed them that they were responsible. So, it's also possible that there was a miscommunication much earlier. Regardless, the SS is undoubtedly revising their procedures.

The secret service, asked the local police to cover that area, fine. Now who on the secret service was supposed to on that day verify that position was covered, like radio check? Maybe?
There was probably some degree of trust that the local law enforcement units would implement such checks within their own chain of command. After this incident, I suspect there will be procedures to have more SS verification of the local police.
However, it also sounded like the local LEOs were claiming that the SS had _not_ informed them that they were responsible. So, it's also possible that there was a miscommunication much earlier.
Regardless, the SS is undoubtedly revising their procedures.

@@bartwilliams4478 I completely understand the sentiment, but at a certain point, you _have_ to trust other people, i.e. the single person in charge can't verify every last thing that every other person on scene is supposed to do. It's why we have chains-of-command. (E.g. it's like saying a NASCAR driver should be held responsible for not checking/confirming every single action that should be taken during each and every pit stop during a race - it's simply logistically impossible)
That said, clearly, someone, somewhere in the various chains-of-command failed, and clearly, there weren't enough checks and validations in place to ensure that mistake hadn't been made. Ideally, the SS already knows where the initial mistake was made and is already adding more checks and validations to ensure that such a mistake can't happen again in the future.
As much as I, and a lot of other people would like to know what that mistake was, I have enough of an understanding of security, that I know that we (i.e. the public) may never really know what that mistake was.
