So, when they eclipsed the Beatles and the Stones on the Billboard charts, I didnt have any understanding of how monumental that was, considering the times all of them lived in. But now I do. I mean, you're talking about 3 very young black girls, right out of the projects of Detroit, ascending to success that was so HUGE, that they actually sold more records than the Beatles and the Stones, at one point and time. And now as I see this footage, it dawns on me, that the Supremes probably could've been even bigger, if Berry Gordy had let ALL OF THEM take turns with lead vocals...lotta people dont know this, but Mary Wilson, CAN REALLY SING...and most people say that Florence Ballard, was the best of the 3..and then you have Diana, who had an extremely unique voice that was tailor-made for pop music. You will NEVER see a group like the Supremes again...NEVER. For all kinds of reasons, that wont happen.
Damn, Flo's daughter was GORGEOUS! Definitely a younger version of her mom. That dress Mary gave her fit her just right. I wonder what became of her and her sister. I wonder what Gordy was thinking when Mary introduced him to her that night? There's no way he didn't look at her and not know that was Blondie's daughter!
Ms Wilson always kept ms ballards memory alive. Sad that Diana didn't show up. I recall something about her having just had a baby but I wonder why she wouldn't show up. Cindy birdsong filled the opening but the Supremes will always be the original three. The daughter looks so much like Flo.

It would have been nice to see Cindy Birdsong there as well. Not even a mention of her is disappointing as she helped to keep the group going after Florence was let go.
@@LoveTheKay Yes...but Cindy had nothing to do with Flo drinking too much, gaining weight and getting kicked out of the group! Plus, she was a better dancer.
In a sense, Cindy Birdsong and Marlene Barrow (of the Andantes) can claim to be a Supreme since they both performed with Diane and Mary when the group was still The Supremes before the name change ....
Marlene Barrow was an Andante. Period. If she can claim to be a Supreme, Flo Ballard can claim to be a Marvelette (she toured with them in 1962 when Wanda Young was on maternity leave). Cindy is definitely a Supreme and a good one -- lovely lady, inside and out, but she's on zero of the Supremes' hit records from the 1960s.
Well, put that on Diana Ross. She wasn't barred from attending. She chose not to. I think Mary is right, though -- at that time, she had other priorities. She had a baby that was just months old (her son Ross), so getting all dressed up and flying to some city with leaky breasts and a baby you'd be missing and thinking about just wasn't something she wanted to do! One thing that's clear based on how they've turned out is that Diana Ross was a great mother to her kids. I'd venture that she's prouder of her kids and her job raising them than she is of anything she's done professionally.
Diana unapologetically worked her butt off: learning phrasing and interpretation 0:28 lyrics, dancing and acting which catapulted her to superstardom. Sweet, beautiful, lovely and innocent Mary Wilson built a career on portraying herself as a saint whose wings were clipped by Diana, subsequently, she achieved a ton of fans who sees her as a victim and Diana the wicked witch of Motown. To Mary’s fans she is the most beautiful Supremes but Berry preferred the skinny big eyed one. Let’s get back to reality: every unmarried female who was working at Motown during fifties and sixties was after Berry Gordy but Diana won the prize (if you considered him a prize). Both the Temptation and the Four Tops who were young men at that time lavish Diana with praises for exhibiting the qualities of a young lady. For the records Diana had her fling at Motown with Berry Gordy, one of the Holland brothers and Eddie Kendricks but she was never labeled the Queen of the Backseats on the Motown Review Bus. Three young girls were given the exact opportunities and they went in separate directions.
There are far too many elements surrounding The Supremes to mention...and many of those elements are sad. Having said that, what's even more sad is the childish bickering here (and elsewhere) among The Supremes "purported" fans. Thanks to the R&R Hall of Fame for remembering and including our Supremes in their ceremony. It is my belief that Ross could not be there because of her infant sons. I do, however, believe it would have been proper and fitting (and even more entertaining) to invite all the women, who recorded as Supremes and have them take a bow and be recognized either onstage or even from their seats. Finally, it appeared that Lisa looked and probably felt out of place. And so, say what you want about Ross, but Ross would have grabbed Lisa and asked her to stand with her the entire time. It would've been sweet if Mary had given the young girl more support onstage in front of all those music industry people. #RIP to Little Richard...I don't know why he wasn't provided a script since he obviously carried on and on about himself and even admitted to forgetting about The Supremes. #LOL
@Robert A. Lofgren Jr. Dearest Robert it's so nice to finally discover the know-it-all of all things Diana Ross & The Supremes. Whether I'm smelling coffee or anything else, that doesn't make you right about anything, anywhere at anytime. Who #TF are you? You don't get to say what or why Diana Ross did or didn't do anything. Are you insane? Finally just because you have the financial means to hire nannies, caretakers, sitters or whatever, if Ross chose to take care of her sons herself, doesn't she deserve that right? What's wrong with you?
I thought she looked very nervous and uncomfortable... I know, that as someone not used to performing and addressing large groups.. especially at such a prestigious event as this... it would be nerve wracking for me. I wonder if the same were true for her?
Florence Ballards Daughter didn't look like She was very Friendly . If Diana didn't have a Baby would she have been there? And would Diana be nice to Florence Ballards Daughter.
Only the original Supremes were inducted. Diana Ross, Mary Wilson and Florence Ballard. None of the other 6 were included. Mary Wilson had nothing to do with that. The original Supremes had most of the number 1 hits.
ASK THE ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME. The Temptations inducted all of their members because they voted to be inclusive. Mary voted to be EXclusive. She only wanted it to be Diana and she on the Dias for the publicity. Grow up - she did the same thing at The Walk Of Fame - refusing to let the Supremes be involved but suggested they be in the audience if they wanted to be there. Cindy, Lynda, Scherrie, Jean and Susaye all lived in LA and were told to stay away. ASK ANY OF THEM. Mary is a phony douche who made Scherrie sit in the audience at Motown 45.
@@moogooguypan2514 Cindy Birdsong is not Dennis Edwards. Damon Harris was not included in the Tempts' RRHOF ceremony either even though he sang on big Tempts hits -- "Papa Was a Rollin' Stone", "Masterpiece." Dennis Edwards, though, sang LEAD on both Tempts' Grammy winners ("Cloud Nine" and "Papa Was a Rollin' Stone") as well as a dozen other big Temptations hit songs. I love Cindy, but what contribution did she make to the Supremes' music? She is on zero of their #1 records, zero really of any hit single released during the 1960s.
Diana thought that Cindy belong to because she did such a good job of filling in for Florence and making the groups possible to continue. Cindy may not have sung on any of the big hits, except the platinum single I’m gonna make you love me, that she most certainly stepped in at a time of crisis in the group I did so brilliantly. It was a slap in the face not to include her but there had to be a majority vote and it was 50-50. I think it was rude.

But Flo's daughter looks angry
I thought I was the only one who noticed that
Donald Trusclair II I noticed that as well.
Flo's daughters, and estate, should be worth millions. "Baby, baby, where did our money go"?
I thought she looked very nervous and uncomfortable... I know, that as someone not used to performing and addressing large groups.. especially at such a prestigious event as this... it would be nerve wracking for me. I wonder if the same were true for her?
@DeVante Cooley Yes, that's right.
Florence’s daughter looks sullen.
Florence Ballards Daughter didn't look like She was very Friendly . If Diana didn't have a Baby would she have been there? And would Diana be nice to Florence Ballards Daughter.
Where's Diana Ross?
It never has said how Mary Wilson died, does anyone know
Heart disease
Of a massive heart attack on her sleep🙏🙏🙏
It was a heart attack.
Ballard's daughter looked disgusted the whole time.
Mary refused to allow Cindy or any other Supremes. The Tempts allowed all real Tempts to be awarded.
Shame on everyone that judges Diana Ross, you have know right consult the BiBle if you dont beleive me. All this garbage and talk of he say she say, is judt mean. If anything happen within the Supremes, its between them so stop interfeering. God bless Diana, Mary, and Flo, as well as all supremes that participated in the group.
Where is Diana???? Why she didn´t attend?
Had a baby a few months before, plus talk is that Mary and her were feuding
was mary day
A classy lady! Too bad Diana Ross you coun't muster up the class, to show up! Mary always gave you props Diana Ross! Still love you.
No, Mary didn't always give props. It was just two years before that Mary's book came out trashing Ross. Why would Diana want to share the stage with her after that?
I thought she was flo
Ain’t nothing without Diana Ross present though .
Dianah who?
Diana only thinks about one thing..herself! Enough said.
Ahmet!
did these people take care of this woman’s 3 daughters or not?
Making excuse for no good diana
Wow! Florence daughter looks just like her. She has the same unhappy look. It's so sad that Flo's children get no royalties from their mom's hard work. Gordy did all of them dirty! Mary was very pretty and Florence was talented but Diana had the charm and she used it!
RIP Mary Wilson 😭
