I really like what Geoff is doing with his Operation Mindcrime project. Just the whole sound and vibe of it. It's got that early 90s, experimental, classy, half-weird style that Queensryche had on Empire and Promised Land. Almost like an episode of X-Files! The songs are not instant hits, but it's more intellectual music that you need to process. The Key got me really back into his world after a really long time. (almost 20 years). And it really feels like the return of the real Queensryche to me. Here we have weirdness, coneptual story, melodic choruses, melodic synths, melodic solos. Just the way I like my QR-music! I'm really glad Tate is back on track again, and maybe DeGarmo could write a song or two for him in the future?

Wow, it has gotten really, really old hearing the (personal?) attacks towards Geoff Tate. You know what really makes someone a recording artist? Going in different and sometimes, unexpected direction! Being more open minded in music might not always be what the fans want, but redundancy is a soul killer. Hey, if it's not your musical vibe, there are always other choices out there. We are spending way too much time trying to ignite digital fires (We are still witch burners! So sad!) instead of searching out new influences! Endless searches at our fingertips and we are lost in pettiness!
It's not that catchy for a single but i don't think its the purpose with albums like these. I'm convinced it will do well once the album is heard in it's entirety. Who remembers the catchy singles in the long run anyway? The kind of music that require a few listens and makes you think is what Geoff does best. Im looking very much forward to the album. The band did a fantastic performance here in Sweden some month ago.
I love this. I think it sounds fantastic. I am not a fan of the 2 Todd Queensryche albums. They are ok but I enjoyed the Key much more than Condition Human. I have no problem with the new music by Tate it's in an Empire mode IMO. I don't think that the last 2 Queensryche discs are classics like Rage For Order or any of the early Tate years. This to me is a solid song.
So some post-grunge song with effects and a backwashed vocal performance is "solid" but Condition Human didn't measure up? That is just pure horseshit.
Best album he ever made. And I have been there from the first ep. I was 19 back then. Now 52. These last two albums have shown a clean pair of heels to his former bandmates. And that after the awful Frequency Unknown and very disappointing Dedicated To Chaos.
This song is all over the place, but doesn't hit the mark anywhere. One foot in the past and one foot in the mud. It's not bad, but uninspired, which is perhaps worse than bad. It's like Planet of the Apes part nine, or Ice Age part twelve.
I Love the song!! Looking forward to OMC's new album "Resurrection". I will admit the mixing can be a pain in the ass but if you look beyond that you can still him singing. Hate comments will come as they usually do but it doesn't matter because these are the same individuals with a limited mind for music. And this is obviously beyond the basic in your face loud metallic music it's music with much more going on. But the sooner some stop comparing the two bands that aren't even the same but only related through their past it will be better for all of us. Tate's obviously still got his singing chops despite what most people would like to say. And I think the album will be fine people just want old school Geoff when the man is damn near over 60. I mean this meaningless bullying of Geoff has gotten old and people should accept it or move on with their tampons and cry to someone else who gives a fuck.
Julian Felton right on.. also Tates "in character" on these songs.. we see on the Seduction of decay Tate can do anything he wants vocally, but today that "one ball screaming" that Turd does is so "out of fashion" and Tate has a "vision" and you can feel it.. where Turdsryche plays candy ass meaningless faux metal for kids.. Ill take Tate by a landslide. most fans of the band that were there in 1981 have matured and appreciate Tates immense talents

I don't hate the guy I just think change the band name and sing in your own voice instead of Geoff you're good to go. And QR has smoothness to them that you hear in the earlier records and that's not what's going on it just sounds like modern metal which is cool but it's not the original QR sound.
first listen and I would say not bad. Maybe best thing Geoff has done in awhile. I have stayed a Queensryche fan though the good and the bad so having 2 Queensryches is cool with me even if ones called Operation Mindcrime. Looking forward to hearing th entire album
It doesn't cut the power in vocals. Almost too much studio processing. Instruments weak, it doesn't give that burning desire to play it.I would like to hear it live, because the arena rock era would say kinda blah. I saw Geoff Tate in March. I expected this to be more progressive and better. Will follow up.
this and the first album were recorded at the same time.. they just finished up the very last album of the trilogy this month.. I am sure there are more songs to yours and mine liking on this album we just have to wait till september to find out...the stranger is my favorite song so far..

That is what I posted similar to what you wrote. I was when Ryche debuted in Japan, flew to Germany. It does nothing to draw you in. Like having a CD that you skip to the next song. Overkill studio dubbing in vocals. Weak instruments. I would like to hear it live. It probably wouldn't be anything on a request. Despite people being pissed at Todd. He has come along way & I saw them. Live version like you said, request an encore. New stuff from them now more edgy. Yes it exceeded my expectations. That is the hardest thing when your frontman goes another way and is not true to the foundation where arenas were packed.

The art name depends on the fact you need some financial sources to make and distribute music... Would the people in Frontier have closed the deal for a Geoff Tate named thing?! Geoff was always closer artistically to Peter Gabriel than Peter Steele and his solo work continues to exhibit as much. As always, am grateful for Geoff to share his art but it's not my cup of tea.

Face it Tates upper register is gone! Your not going to hear the scream from the Queen of the Reich any more! but more tasty harmony's and softer ballad songs!
He quits smoking and take singing lessons like Rob Halford did and he will be able to hit all the notes. Admittedly Rob is going downhill now at close to 70, but vocally everyone thought he was done 15 years ago but Rob added at least another decade of top notch performances by being humble enough to realize he was fading fast in his 50's and getting professional lessons after years of living on talent alone. Ditch cigarettes and get a vocal coach to retrain his breathing, diagram use, and strengthen his vocal cords and neck muscles. That will bring back most of what Tate has lost. Athletes have to train their bodies and high range singers have to put in the work as well. Tate has been lazy and living on fading talent. He is still young enough to fix everything. Tate at 60% is better than most, but he could with some work be 90% easily with some hard work. Tate still has amazing ideas and talent. Time to focus on not fading away.

Yeah, I have no hope for Tate musically. I'm sure he means well, but I think rock/metal stuff is beyond his abilities these days. Even on that Avantasia song I could tell he was struggling to stay in key. Such a shame....and simply getting older doesn't explain it cause Halford and Dickinson both sound great in 2016.

The Ryche concert I saw was 2 weeks ago. They actually sound like their better days. Todd's voice has clicked in with QR. A live concert tells it all. This overdone studio version, dubbing vocals into Geoff's voice. Weak instruments. I'd hate to hear it live.

Admittedly Rob is going downhill now at close to 70, but vocally everyone thought he was done 15 years ago but Rob added at least another decade of top notch performances by being humble enough to realize he was fading fast in his 50's and getting professional lessons after years of living on talent alone.
Ditch cigarettes and get a vocal coach to retrain his breathing, diagram use, and strengthen his vocal cords and neck muscles. That will bring back most of what Tate has lost. Athletes have to train their bodies and high range singers have to put in the work as well.
Tate has been lazy and living on fading talent. He is still young enough to fix everything. Tate at 60% is better than most, but he could with some work be 90% easily with some hard work.
Tate still has amazing ideas and talent. Time to focus on not fading away.

Yeah, I have no hope for Tate musically. I'm sure he means well, but I think rock/metal stuff is beyond his abilities these days. Even on that Avantasia song I could tell he was struggling to stay in key. Such a shame....and simply getting older doesn't explain it cause Halford and Dickinson both sound great in 2016.
