    Hello from Oregon!!! LOVE your sense of humor, you had me smiling at the first 30 seconds. And, I am new to this bee keeping biz, but I am heavily considering adding this to my bee hive collection.

    Crikey I remember burning my hand quite badly on the back of one of those fridges when I was a wee lass. I like this use for a fridge better!

    Stand that fridge on its head, use the freezer as the brood box, and the fridge as the honey box...!!!! A glass door would be nice!!!!

      The Bush Bee Man Hey! I sell cameras I was hoping to have a bit of shop talk with you about what you use and what you think about it. I'm mostly a photographer on my own but I have been meaning to get at least more knowledgeable in video if you want to email me that would be pretty sweet. (Not tryna sell anything I just need to learn more :). DLSakphotography@gmail.com

    Interesting video, curious to know: How did you de-gas the fridge at 2:50?
    There's several fridge based projects I need to do and now this one too, but not knowing how to safely remove the refridgerant without venting it into the air has been the stopping factor for me. Keen to know if you've figured out a way to safely remove the refridgerant gas?

    Hey there!
    What do you think, will the fridge be a good option as a standalone hive for my garden?
    In this video you say you're gonna use it for transferring swarming populations.
    Also, are there limits on how big the fridge can be?
    Thank you for the great idea. I've wanted to build a hive for so long, but as a student building one out of a fridge is cheaper and thus the only real option!

    How do you control moisture inside during winter in this fridge setup?

    I'm not a beekeeper, but would the insulation of the fridge hurt them at all? Considering its the outback which is hot as the devil's balls. I guess it could also keep the coolness in, but can bees cool their hive quick enough?

    • @OliverONeill
      @OliverONeill 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Insulation works both ways, it's a barrier of energy.

    • @TheWizardofLimes
      @TheWizardofLimes 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hence the "keep the coolness in", I meant it more as a question of the bees air conditioning abilities.

    • @OliverONeill
      @OliverONeill 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      "Keeping the cool in" makes no sense.. Cold is the lack of heat. if heat cant get inside (due to the insulation), the bees have less work to do fanning the hive.

    • @TheWizardofLimes
      @TheWizardofLimes 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oliver O'Neill It does, if you think of the fridge as an isolated tank of air. And thus 'cool air' can be considered as a 'thing' for simplicity's sake. But that 'thing' is really just the effort of the bees fanning the energy out of the hive. I was just thinking that maybe the bees needed more open air, but i remembered they literally make hives inside of anything really (I don't actually know much about bees at all, hence the original question). Conclusion though is probably just the bees will have an easier time cooling is all.

      If the video is below a certain view count, you can sometimes edit them in the youtube video editor, then you don't need to edit it again and reupload it. Premiere is easier to edit with though.

    Love watching you guys during my lunch break! Shame you guys don't have monetization on as you provide fantastic and informative content. Are there any solitaries bees native to Australia, and, if so, are you planning to make smaller hives for them as well?

    • @TheBushBeeMan
      @TheBushBeeMan  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good news! They finally approved us for monetise the channel couple of days ago 😊 thank you so much for watching and supporting us.
      There's a few native bees around the place that live by themselves.

      @Danevader2 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's awesome! Are you planning to make hives for them to help both populations or are they not out so far in your neck of the outback?

    • @TheBushBeeMan
      @TheBushBeeMan  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are about 600 native solitary bee species in South Australia, and about 1700 solitary bee species native to Australia overall.
