I just bought a passion coupe. I love this car. Once you learn how to use the transmission, its actually pretty peppy. I was spending over 400 a month in gas. The car payment and gas combined are less then the gas alone in the Jeep. Insurance does put the overall cost over the price of gas, but I am buying the car...its a literal investment over burning gas that, once used..is gone forever. I love this thing.
Agree! Love mine too! Loved passing others going up Raton Pass! If I had wanted a 'sports' car, I would have bought one. I use mine for my 34 mile one way commute out it the boonies - not city at all. Has hauled bags of horse feed, saddles, groceries etc! Love, love love my 2011 Passion!
In manual mode, push the shift stick to + and hold it there for a second or two before shifting, then release the shift stick and your shift to the following gear will be smooth. You have to drive smart when you drive a Smart fortwo; at least that's how I drive my 2015 Smart fortwo pure car.
Çok harika araç emeği geçenlere teşekkürler diliyoruz harika bir araç geliştirmişler bizim ülkeye de aynısını bekliyoruz aşırı derecede satış rekoru kırar her zaman süründen kazanmak hiç bir zaman zarar getirmez bizim ülkeye de bekliyoruz ☺️😊☺️😊☺️😊☺️😊
I agree with you I am from the UK and I will tell you these are incredibly popular even the older models I have had to look for over a month to find one and at long last I have found one she just needs a new interior door handle and a new service before I can take her "Millie" Home with me , I had no problem when I test drove Millie and since I will be using her to get me to appointments etc she's only going to be in my local town.
I only wish this car had swifter acceleration and got better gas mileage, especially with it being as petite as it is. Nevertheless, it's still my ideal vehicle, well this and the Toyota Prius, I just love them.
Tykenwil Ⓥ The Prius has everything it needs to be my favorite car, but it doesn’t use any of it. The hot-hatch is getting to be my favorite car form-factor, but no, Toyota has decided that it needs to be as ugly and as slow as possible so I won’t buy one.
In referring to the gas mileage, he says, "That's why you get a fortwo". I strongly disagree! There are a number of cars you can buy which get better fuel economy. I've been driving a smart fortwo for almost eight years. There were a number of factors in my purchase decision ... Safety! Yep, Likely the safest car I've owned in 45 years of driving. Fun! Absolutely a hoot. Like an underpowered sports car, handles curves GREAT! And last, but certainly not least, it's different! I've owned my share of vanilla, appliance cars. Boring cars like the Nissan Sentra. I wanted something DIFFERENT, and the smart fortwo fills that bill. I went nearly eight years without a serious problem. My cabrio roof needs replacement. The transmission: Never use Automated mode. Use manual with paddle shifters.
I wanna get a Fortwo but two things are stopping me, can you address them? One I hear it doesn't take bumps well, do you get used to it? Is it all that bad? Also it runs premium but is it cheap to run despite it running on premium gas?
As with other small cars, you feel the road. If your regular routes are bad/bumpy, that may be a concern for you. Premium fuel is recommended. A few people I know of don't go by that recommendation and use Regular. It'll run on Regular, but at the price of a performance hit and likely some decrease in range. I've always figured that for an extra dollar or two per tankfull, why not use the recommended fuel? If you drive 1,000 miles/month, buying premium will cost $6-7 more than buying Regular. Seems like a no-brainer to me.
Böyle araçlarıda Türkiye Cumhuriyeti Devleti içinde bekliyoruz tam olarak 50.60.bin tane gelmesi çok iyi harika olur satış fiyatı ise süründen gitmesi kazanç kapısı olarak her zaman kazandırır bizde böyle araçların ülkede bekliyoruz ☺️😊☺️😊☺️😊☺️😊☺️
You get this "Renault deux chevaux " thing lol A Deux chevaux is from Citroën Anyway, on the new smart now they have a manual shifter or a dsg ( dual clutch ). Much better then the old crappy gearbox that shifts, SLOOOOOOW
for about 4k at smart madness you can put upto 125hp in a smart also a guy in in.or okl.sell's hybusa kits complete with chasis and lines and gauges for 21k shipped
electrictroy2010 Um... "The Smart will be much easier to find a spot" not really. Actually it'd be much easier to find a spot with a bike because you can split between lanes if and when there is a traffic jam... It'd be much easier to PARK IN A SPOT not FIND A SPOT. Get the difference?
+Michael Lee WHAT I see is a very immature response from a juvenile (not physically but mentally). If you had reading comprehension, you'd see the antecedent of "find a spot" is "parking" so my grammar was correct (and why I scored 99th percentile on Verbal SAT). THE SMART CAN FIND PARKING SPOTS WHERE ACCENTS CANNOT FIT & THAT'S WHY PEOPLE BUY THEM...... no matter. I still get paid $130,000 a year for my skills as an avionics engineer, while you have nothing better to do except nitpick sentences on the internet (like a teen) .
The gas mileage is terrible given the thing is so tiny ... there are much larger production cars that get substantially better milage (not even talking hybrids, many Volkswagen, Honda, Toyota, etc.)
You think Mercedes will do something about the gearbox lol,Mercedes Benz has owned Smart since the begining in the UK and the rest of Europe and haven't changed the gearbox to be less jurky since the 90's.
Only reason I want this is to park it like he did at the end. Otherwise, it seems like a medium gust of wind will knock it over. Let's not get talk about being rammed in to by another car
High 30s for real world has mileage? Fuck, last tank on my 20 year old Geo Metro with 214,308.8 miles was 37 mpg and I work in as a delivery driver in an urban area. The longest trip I've taken this car on is about 50 miles of surface streets, so I don't have any real world highway mileage numbers, but I am guessing that with conservative driving I could get 55 mpg pretty easy, add in drafting I think I could probably push 70 mpg.
I have 4 cars, two automatics, two manuals, 6 trucks, 1 automatic, and 5 manuals, and I've driven them all with no problem, and the manual is best, requires no concentration, unless you're stupid, and the automatics are always, too slow, unrefined, they change at the wrong time, or they are idiotically expensive robotised manuals (ferraris, lambos and that stuff), the smart is fine as it is, but it would be perfect if they offer to subtract some $800 and add a clutch and a manual lever.
The gearbox is fine, it works slowly and its unrefined but it does work ok for the drives you give to the little thing, The car does the job of a personal or couple sometimes mobility extremely cheap and comfortably, and very important for many ridiculously easy to park. The fuel economy it gives and its cheap services, and reliable mitsu engine totally cope for the high buy price, if you don't like it buy another car then.
Too bad he didn't review a car with paddle shifters ... that's THE way to operate this transmission. The stock speakers suck. Speaker upgrade is the number one most important upgrade. After that, head unit and horn. If you don't "get it", you don't get it. This reviewer doesn't get it.
GrotrianSeiler The only benefit of a Smart is its ability to park in virtually any space. Do you really think we need that in North America where the lanes and parking spaces are huge.
Street parking in cities in North America is not always plentiful. That's where these cars shine. They have no value in suburbia, but they make a great city car, imo.
pretty much everybody drives like morons, getting to work on time or meeting your date on time is more important than not dying. big truck drivers though just do more damage when they do crash.
It's not cheap and it gets relatively bad mileage considering. About like a Honda Fit. And it's not reliable. So a tiny, expensive, unreliable, slow car that gets 32 miles to the gallon. What's not to love? Everything. So the market sorted it out and did so for a reason.
Hmmm. If you think a manual shift vehicles doesn't get good gas mileage, then you need to rethink your mileage math. I'd rather have a gas saving stick and clutch than a clumsy POS automatic any day of the week.
Yari,Car to Car,Dollar to Dollar,Reliability to Reliability,Yari is a much much better choice. Smart is a joke, right after warranty expired, everything fail.
i average between 40 - 45 with my smart around town no freeway, only hybrids can beat that , those epa numbers with the a/c running and morons driving. with the a/c on in town i get 33-35 mpg

Had mine since 2018 great little car fun to drive it is what it is cheap affordable transport and safe 🚗❤️👌
Love my 2011 Passion! We have driven it all over the southern US.

Lol I dont understand why people hating this car are watching the review haha anyway I love it I want one
They build all of the cars at the factory in Hambach, France.
Nice job and thanks.
" 0 to 60 YES " lol
CRCR7 OK thank you
Actually, my 2009 smart fortwo gets 44 to 50 MPG all the time. This includes high elevation mountain trips.
Q11pgg26 de 31i22234400900
Whatever gas mileage you get remember you have to put the more expensive premium gas to achieve that gas mileage
Takes a smart guy to drive a smart car. I love mine and don’t have any trouble with the shifting.

actually its safer when pulling out into traffic to shift manuel since the auto might shift you into 2nd to early if you dont gas hard enough .
You get this "Renault deux chevaux " thing lol
A Deux chevaux is from Citroën
Anyway, on the new smart now they have a manual shifter or a dsg ( dual clutch ). Much better then the old crappy gearbox that shifts, SLOOOOOOW
+Tj Hessmnon Just saying its crappy cause it shift so slow. They might be reliable tho, not arguing with that.
This car is awsome dont diss it its convinient
LOL! Transmission is not the main problem with this car. It is the price.
I tested the smart a week ago and shifted gears manually. My hand or arm didn't hit the key even once.
for about 4k at smart madness you can put upto 125hp in a smart also a guy in in.or okl.sell's hybusa kits complete with chasis and lines and gauges for 21k shipped
he's absolutely right about the gear shift. it's slowwwwwwww....but i love my Smarty i bought last may!!
Transmission is wonky, but unlike Cvt's they keep on going and don't brake down.
اللهم ارزقني وحده مثلها امين

Cool car

You can opt for a Hyundai Accent that seats 5, has a trunk, and a decent engine (1.6L I-4). And it's cheaper too. What was Mercedes thinking?
Michael Lee It's a really popular car in Europe though because lanes are tight and parking spaces are tiny.
What do you mean my Accent I don't own one electrictroy2010
+Michael Lee Try parking an accent in San Francisco or New York. The Smart will be much easier to find a spot
.
electrictroy2010 Um... "The Smart will be much easier to find a spot" not really. Actually it'd be much easier to find a spot with a bike because you can split between lanes if and when there is a traffic jam... It'd be much easier to PARK IN A SPOT not FIND A SPOT. Get the difference?

How good is the Air Conditioner?
I just got a 2008 Smart Fortwo. The AC is excellent and cold. The heater takes a long time, though. But the heated seats come on pretty fast.
I like this car what's the cost in bareilly up

Just yesterday here in Miami someone in a Smart car t-boned an F150. The Smart car was totaled and killed the passenger. The truck driver walked away.
You can probably use this car on the golf course.

You think Mercedes will do something about the gearbox lol,Mercedes Benz has owned Smart since the begining in the UK and the rest of Europe and haven't changed the gearbox to be less jurky since the 90's.

I want to buy this in india
.pls bring these type of small cars to india.
Kumaresh R I think Chevy makes a car there called the spark. It's like a smart car but with four seats, more cargo space, and a more powerful engine
Only reason I want this is to park it like he did at the end. Otherwise, it seems like a medium gust of wind will knock it over. Let's not get talk about being rammed in to by another car

Way too much whining from the presenter. The car is actually fun, and easier to park than anything else.
GrotrianSeiler No one would buy one here in my part of Canada, way too much snow for this car to handle!
+GrotrianSeiler WELL he did list this as his most-hated car of the year: "I really wanted to love it, but it had too many failings"
.
electrictroy2010 it a vary safe car tho
Golf cart!
if your car is shifting to second by its self like that i would take it to a shop
pretty much everybody drives like morons, getting to work on time or meeting your date on time is more important than not dying. big truck drivers though just do more damage when they do crash.
it should shift to second by itself in auto mode
Bangladesh paris haw mash
u can use it instead of bicycle :) ONLY
The cost of this car... for the crappy equipment and drive-train, totally not worth it. They could have at least put some quality components in it.
