That's because, at one point, Rudd had to get out due to the extreme heat. Wallace had fallen out of the race earlier, but he stepped in for Rudd for the rest of the race. Finished 3rd, I believe

Many reasons actually • Using real body panels meant manufacturers had to deform roadlegal cars to be competitive, which created abominations like the 1986 Aerocoupe • Force is mass x acceleration and it turns out the most force a catchfence can sustain is a stock car at 180mph. If the car spins out at 210mph, it'll reach the catchfence at well over 180mph quite often • With the "real body panels" out of the equation, you could go for "stock-like" and NASCAR did but of course manufacturers went further and further away • Then you have the whole issue of trends regarding performance level and what people think a racecar should look like I could go on...

Has a few things working against it--mid-80s camera tech, satellite uplink, downlink to a big dish in the yard (or at a broadcast facility), slow speed analog tape recording. Tape stored for many years before getting digitized for TH-cam. Quality lost at each step. Kudos to SMIFFTV for making the effort to bring this to us.
Oldsmobiles in the top spots, Pontiacs, leader swapping practically every lap in the beginning. For me, the 80's were the pinnacle of NASCAR.

Real racing. Not the fake 3-4 wide fuel saving garbage we have now.
Every other piece of data I find on this race has Ricky Rudd in the 15, but they keep calling him Rusty Wallace?
That's because, at one point, Rudd had to get out due to the extreme heat. Wallace had fallen out of the race earlier, but he stepped in for Rudd for the rest of the race. Finished 3rd, I believe
Rudd started the 15 car - Rusty took over in relief of Rudd (his 27 car burned a piston)
Rusty's car went out early on and he took Ricky's place. Ricky had the flu. It's a little over halfway in when they do the switch.
