It is stunning to consider how our Father turns all this bad for His good for those who are continuously returning to Him. By the grace born of Jesus Christ through the Holy Spirit. St. Gregory of Palamas pray for us.
Gregory has been venerated as a Saint in the Eastern Orthodox Church since 1368. Within the Catholic Church, he has also been called a Saint; Pope John Paul II repeatedly called Gregory a great theological writer. Since 1971, the Melkite Greek Catholic Church has venerated Gregory as a Saint. Some of his writings are collected in the Philokalia. Since the Ottoman period, the second Sunday of Great Lent is dedicated to the memory of Gregory Palamas in the Eastern Orthodox Church and in the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church. The Byzantine Synodikon of Orthodoxy also celebrates his memory and theology while condemning his opponents, including some anti-Palamites who flourished after Gregory's death.
Hi. I ordered this book in Holland, I am from Amsterdam. It came today and to my surprice it was from UMP. The book look so good and beautiful. Wow. Thank you. In love of Christ, greetings and hug from oversees.
I just noticed while looking at the 'Look inside' preview via Amazon that there is a typo on what appears to be the 5th page with the Greek and then English translation below - the word proceedeth has 3 E's. Don't know if you have already noticed or been made aware of this, but if not, and if the hardbacks haven't already gone to print... then this can be corrected. Many thanks to UMP and Fr. Christopher Moody for this translation. I very much looking forward to reading this!
This Treatise absolutely destroys the Catholic argument for the filioque. Here's my little sneak peek... For, Basil the Great says, “the Holy Spirit has this sign, indicative of His property as far as hypostasis is concerned, namely to become known after the Son and with Him, and to subsist (as in hypostasis) from the Father.” "While the Holy Spirit is attached to the Son, with whom He is understood together inseparably, yet He has existence dependent on the cause of the Father, from whom He also proceeds, having this as a sign that distinguishes His own hypostatic property, namely to be known after the Son and together with Him and to have His subsistence from the Father. Yet while the Son makes known the Spirit, which proceeds from the Father, through Him self and with Himself, being the only one that shone forth as only-begotten from the unbegotten Light, He has no communion with the Father or the Holy Spirit regarding the individual characteristics." Epistle 38 There's more than 100 pages more like that in Palamas' Treatise.
Going to pick this up right now.
