I quickly found out they weren't listening to what I was saying. Needles to say the last time I went out for dinner was over five years ago and if I'm being honest I prefer the company of my dog, at least she's paying attention to me when I speak to her.

Hello Rabbi. I am a christian and I see cellphones in churches.... 🙄 Cellphones are idols, that is it. Idols are everywhere : Sports, celebrities, television.... and now the very convenient cellphone, the little idol which engrafts itself so easily in people's hands and no need of surgery, since our stupid little idolatrous hearts do it spontaneously. And we interrupt our prayers to answer the phone, or look at a notification. When we pray, we are in the presence of the Lord Almighty and we answer the phone ! Both ungodly and uncivilized.

Regarding people reading the Holy Bible from a phone app, perhaps we should be thankful that they are reading the Bible at all.....if it weren't fot the appeal of the app, the Bible might have remained untouched (if they have one at all) and unread. If travelling, the app could be a compact and convenient means of reading and studying God's Word.

I remember way back around 2007/2008, people had flip cell phones and texting started. I was 28/29 years old and had gone back to school at a small-town community college, and after a lunch break a group of us around the same age (so we were never raised on cell phones) were walking back to our class, and I saw my friend walking, face down into her phone, and texting her husband. I knew then that this was messed-up, it wasn’t like excusing yourself to make a call/receive a text, it was texting just barely in its infancy, and people already prioritizing it to the people they were physically with. No more “in the present”. Within a year I was working at a big hospital and all nurses (everyone, really) had phones in their scrub pockets, and would be texting people their entire shift... and it was night shift. About 4 years ago I dumped a smartphone and went back to a flip phone - I have lost every single one of my “friends” because of it. The reality is that most people don’t even know how to have relationships in person anymore - if it’s not through a smartphone, they aren’t interested. Personally, I believe this is dehumanizing and demonic.

He doesn't even tie it into faith until 10:00, and it's only a passing mention of Ha'shem.
It's a good lecture but it's 99.99% secular. These same discussions occur among Christians, Muslims, and atheists. These discussions occur in boardrooms, offices, and over dinner tables. Perhaps he expanded on this outside the scope of this video, but there is little in the way of faith here. Yes, these systems hijack the intended purpose of our body, as designed by God, but even an atheist could say that it hijacks our systems which evolved naturally to our environment.

My phone is the first thing i reach for upon waking, I'm often woken up by notifications, and it's the last thing I'm doing before falling asleep. I have it playing youtube vids all day while I work. While I'm out I'm listening to them. Every time I have a spare minute I reach for it. Even when I'm supposed to be busy working I still reach for it repeatedly. Like I'm doing right now. If I'm out and i realise it's not in its usual pocket, I have a moment of panic. I can scroll for hours and have no memory of what I've seen as soon as the next vid is playing. I don't yearn to be on my phone when I'm not using it but it is a dominant presence in my day and I'm 36, God knows what these things are doing to developing kid brains.

I'm not sure how it is in the Jewish tradition, but a lot of Christians have stressed the importance of mental prayer, for example “He who neglects mental prayer needs not a devil to carry him to hell, but he brings himself there with his own hands.” (St. Teresa of Avila)
The way the phone scatters your attention makes it impossible to focus your mind, making mental prayer and meditation impossible. It is especially bad now that the apps have become addictive as explained in this video
