After Alice in Borderland became available on Netflix, renewal of the show was announced around end of December/beginning of January. Only a month after streaming was available. 0:31 After season 1, the responses were amazing and so many people commented that they wanted to see season 2. I was reading the comments thinking "I want to do Season 2 too!" Because season 2 has been finalized, I hope you will all enjoy it once it comes out. About Alice in Borderland 0:51 I know there are a lot of people who have already watched the show but I don't want to go too much into details and spoilt it for those who haven't watched it yet. So instead of talking about the show's storyline, I will talk about what was going on behind the scenes. Like Director Sato-san said, it would be most interesting for new viewers to watch the show without much context and information. So I recommend new viewers to just watch it first before doing any research about the show. 1:43 Q1 How did you feel when you first heard about the opportunity of being on the show? When I first received an offer about the show, it was already set that Tsuchiya Tao-chan (Usagi) and Yamazaki Kento-kun (Arisu) would be the lead, and a few other characters/actors were also set. I was super happy when I received the offer and if you haven't seen the show yet, I have a few action scenes that I was very excited about. I had always wanted to try action scenes so I couldn't wait to film the action scenes. So when I got the offer, I was very happy and I was a bit worried because I knew it would be a hard character to play. 2:27 Q2 Have you read the original manga? Yes, I have read the manga! Currently on Netflix the show portrays volumes 1~8 of the manga and there is actually an anime that captures the manga up to volume 4. I have also watched the anime too, so I already knew what the story was about. 2:47 Q3 How long did filming take? It was about half a year for me so Tao-chan and Kento-kun were already filming before me so I think approximately 1 year in total. But I started the action parts before actually filming. There is a scene where I fight the Last Boss played by Yanagi-san and we started preparing for it earlier on. We discussed what would be the best moves and what would be the easiest movements with the action director. I have always wanted to do action scenes but when I was actually practicing, my body didn't move the way I wanted it to. I didn't feel like I was able to put my best foot forward and I was really disappointed throughout the practice. 3:40 Q4 Since this was an important role, did you feel any pressure? Yes of course because it was difficult! Me telling you right now that it was hard might be confusing so you need to watch the show to understand why. If I tell you why it was hard, it would make the show less interesting so I hope you watch it to understand why it was difficult to film. There were many parts that were difficult whether it was the gestures, way of talking, etc. 4:10 Q5 Is it true that the Netflix set, filming, production is very extravagant/luxurious? It was amazing! For those who have watched, it may already know but they built the set for Shibuya in Tochigi-ken Ashikaga. We went to the actual Shibuya Station to compare it to the set and I could tell it was built in much detail. I went to the actual Shibuya Station's ticket gates and bathrooms to compare and I was amazed. When I was watching the finished and edited set in a video, I couldn't tell what was CG and what was built. I was very amazed to think that I was filming a show of this caliber and quality. 4:55 Q6 Which cast members were you closest to? I would say Tsuchiya Tao-chan since we also filmed together in Cheer-Dan (another Japanese drama) and kept in touch after the show too. When we were filming Alice, we would talk about work and also the foods we wanted to eat too. Tao-chan also had action scenes so we would stretch together to prepare for them. Miyoshi Ayaka-chan and I had to wear a lot of revealing clothes so we would lather on moisturizer together. I also had a lot of scenes with Murakami Nijiro-kun so I had many opportunities to get to know him better. He's super young, about 22 or 23 but when I was talking to him I felt like he was more mature than me. I thought I was speaking to someone older than me since he was so knowledgeable and structures his sentences eloquently. In my head, I thought, "Who is this guy?!?" I think he lived in Kansai at some point in his life but he had a Kansai-like mannerism and humor so it was very easy to talk to him. When we filmed we focused on filming but outside of it, we had pretty casual conversations. Once I was on "Pon!" (Japanese morning show) with Yamazaki Kento-Kun about 5-6 years ago so I am not sure if he remembers that. For "Pon!" I was in charge of a segment so I wasn't on the show all the time and had limited interactions. When I introduced myself to Kento-kun before filming Alice, he had said "We filmed together on Pon right?" and had remembered me. That was when I thought these types of guys must be super popular. Not only is it that he remembered me but also the fact that it was the first thing he brought up in our conversation really amazed me. Through filming, I was truly impressed by Kento-kun and Tao-chan. 7:19 Since the release of the drama, many people have started watching your TH-cam videos, especially international viewers. From here they have put in english subs!
Kuina was one of my fave characters on AIB, you really portrayed it so badass and adorable at the same time. Can't wait for the season 2, and also looking forward for the eng sub of all your vlogs. 🤗
