I'm probably in the minority that likes the animated LOTR film from the 70s by Ralph Bakshi. That version i feel is really underrated, especially with that classical stylish oldschool animation from that era. Even Peter Jackson liked the film and even paid tribute and homages to it in his own LOTR films.
I love The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit. I get what you're saying Matt as it really is a taste issue. If you are not into fantasy then you will not really enjoy these films.
Yeah, I get this. I have seen the LOTR films, but the one I liked most was the animated version from Bakshi. I like the Conan flicks and some of the genre stuff that is more in the eighties exploitation field. Conan and Red Sonya is more my cup of tea as well. I do like sword and sorcerery, but all of it is better than the comic book stuff to me.
@@marilynknepper1953 LOL. Yeah, I think there is a lot of hate, but I just love that style and era of animation. Has a great atmosphere for LOTR and fantasy stuff in general. Fire and Ice is another cool one.
modern film isn't really film anymore, when directors shoot on film stock, it's all digitized. The new Dune movie looks grainy, but still has that digital aid behind it.
Yea man I’m not really a fan of the digital screen look it’s the same with movies taken place in the 90s. They try using this old filter instead of just using a camera from the 90s which would give it a more authentic feel.
I'm the same way. I was growing up with stuff like Indiana Jones, RoboCop, The Terminator, Army of Darkness and Rambo so that particular type of high fantasy genre didn't interest me very much. However I do love both of the Arnold Conan movies because they had the blood, the violence, the breasts, the grittiness, a musclebound hero, and not to mention truly epic music by Basil Poledouris
I used to dislike the LOTR movies but as I grew older I like them I have the Extended Editions aswell. I don't watch them often but they are very good movies and well made unlike most Garbage that is released in today's age.
I respect your opinion Matt, that's fair enough and to each their own but in my opinion, The Original Star wars trilogy and the Lord of the Rings trilogy of films are my favourite films of all Time. To me these films are perfect. They are truly Excellent and an incredible cinematic experience to behold in Life 🙂 I mean, the characters and story are very interesting and intriguing. There's fun characters, deep characters, that are deep thinkers, thinkers of Life, philosophy and they want to live for their dreams and or purpose in Life. The Amazing cast in these films. The incredible score, soundtrack ect. The great visuals, the cool action, the beautiful locations, the way the films are shot and the costume designs in those films are great 🙂 I love the characters in these films 🙂
I highly respect your opinion, Matt. I understand where you're coming from. me & my mum love the fantasy film genre. mostly from the 80's. some of the tv series are decent too. some of them are overrated more then others. plus the length of the films can be too long as well. me & my mum do own some of the the Lord of the Rings & The Hobbit films on dvd & blu ray. my mum owns the first two Lord of the Rings films & the first Hobbit film on dvd. while I only own both the second Lord of the Rings film on blu ray & the second Hobbit film on dvd. the theatrical versions, not the extended versions. also you're not dumb, only other people are. who say you're wrong for liking & not liking different types of films etc.
I never got into these films as a kid (Harry Potter was more my cup of tea and it still is) but I like them because it's got some nice visuals and I like some of the characters (my favorites is Sam and Aragorn). But my big gripe is the runtime (the director's cut is 5 hour!) But Amazon will never recapture the magic that these films had. Speaking of fandoms, did you hear about Ewan McGregor and how he handled the people who bullied his Kenobi costar? The definition of humble and respect!
I was never much of a Lord of the Rings fan. The movies are ok and have good cinematography but they are really long than they need to be. I like Willow a lot more, a similar type of story but faster paced and one of the first movies I’ve seen in the theater. That was a great experience for a nine year old.
When I begin to possess enough spare money to give ya paid requests, I will make one for Smaug. NOT THE WHOLE FILM! Just what you think and hopefully enjoy from a TH-cam Compilation of all his scenes, which is not even 10 Minutes. I think he's a lot of fun and he's played by Doctor Strange. I myself would never suggest the films he's in, because the only bits I liked were when he was onscreen.
It's okay to not care for the movies. It took me until Summer 2020 to finally get into them a little more, and I was in junior high and 9th grade when the three movies released in theaters. I didn't see them in theaters. I waited for DVD (since Blu-Ray wasn't a thing yet). And when I got into them during Summer 2020, it was all by accident. Since we were all stuck in our homes during Summer 2020, I had the time to re-watch the movies. Plus I re-bought the trilogy on Blu-Ray during Black Friday 2018 or 2019 since my original Two Towers Blu-Ray skipped a little. So I decided to check out this new copy of the trilogy I bought to make sure all three discs were good. I was only watching to make sure they were good discs, but I found myself getting more into the story and stuff. Also, throw in I was watching them on my home theater system too, so I had the subwoofer shaking the room (especially with the elephants in Return Of The King) and all that fun stuff. Plus I did prepare myself for the long runtimes of the movies when I decided to sit down and make sure I had good discs, so I was being a little more patient with things and not yelling at the TV/movie to get going and start getting to the good stuff. I'm not crazy about the movies now though. I can get into them a little more now and stuff, but they aren't the first thing I reach for when I want to watch something, especially longer or long-er movies. And when it comes to longer movies, there are others I prefer. Like The Batman, which I have watched a couple times now and own on Blu-Ray and could probably watch that movie once a week. Maybe even twice a week. The Lord Of The Rings movies might be something I watch once a year or once every two years. I'm not going to have them on repeat. But I was once part of those that didn't care for the movies, and it took me like quite some time to finally get into them. From my experience, I guess you just have to be in the right mood to watch them, or have a brief talk with yourself before watching them to prepare for what's to come. Also, I did break up the movies by watching one movie a day. With what time I usually wake up and go to bed and when everyone else in my house wakes up and goes to bed, I only had a big enough time frame to watch one movie a day, especially if I wanted to watch on my home theater system, which makes a ton of noise. But yeah. It's fine to not like them. I was once there and took me what felt like forever to finally like them. I guess there was one good thing that happened in 2020 with everything terrible going on that year. Everything going on in the world helped me get more into Lord Of The Rings, but I'm not crazy about them like a lot of people are. I even watched the extended cuts, thanks to HBO Max. I got through those easily. I actually had to force myself to break up each movie into two parts. My biggest complaint though with the extended cuts is that they have 20 minutes of end credits. I was a bit disappointed with the first movie for example when I saw that it had a runtime of something like 3 hours 48 minutes. I thought it would be like 3 hours 35-40 minutes without end credits and I prepared myself for that. Nope. The end credits started around the 3 hour 20 minute mark. You serious? That's ridiculous.
I actually like the hobbit movies a lot more. From an aesthetic/music that was way more fantastical, to the actors, to even the changes from the book i just preferred them more.
We can agree to disagree, I think this is one of the greatest trilogies ever made. Everything from the acting, the set pieces, the casting, the practical effects mixed with the Cgi. Peter Jackson obviously loved and respected what Tolkien put forth. And not to mention IT DIDN'T TAKE A DUMP ON THE LORE. but I respect your opinion matt.
I'm the opposite, couldn't get into Harry Potter and I couldn't get into Narnia. Mainly because with the latter having religious elements in it with the whole Aslan/Jesus symbolism and I thought the first movie was kind of boring save for the special effects. I did get into Final Fantasy mainly number 9 but I never got around to continuing playing X or X-2, and I never got around to continuing Kingdom Hearts. Skyrim has never been my thing, because it just looked awful to me and i'm more of a World of Warcraft guy. I do like Blackadder but that's more of a historical series than a fantasy one.
I had a Harry Potter phase when I was really young, but in all honesty I lost interest around the time the Order of the Phoenix book came out; the movies even began to lose appeal when Order of the Phoenix started. I have always been a Star Wars fan, I can never see myself growing tired of it, Harry Potter I'm a casual fan.

Matt made a video about Lord of the Rings? Looks like meat's back on the menu, boys! On a more serious note, to each their own. Even though I prefer Harry Potter, I always thought these movies were enjoyable (The bloated runtime not withstanding). 14:03 I completely disagree. Action films at their best nowadays still pale in comparison to what's come before.
I AM going to be honest... I just got into lord of the rings because of the spider, Shelob lmao, when I was little I was more of a harry potter fan, and the reason I got into Lord of the Rings, is because I saw lego sets, and saw Shelob the spider, and was like OMGOSH SPIDER I WANNA SEE IT and yatta yatta yatta, and I eventually looked up the scene of shelob appearing on my mothers computer, and welp, there you go, I am a fan of lord of the rings in general, I think its awesome, as Ive seen the three films, though Im only into it for Shelob, I wish there was more scenes of her xdddd
Ok no kidding I have never seen LOTR , HOBBIT OR HARRY POTTER. My question is this, Should I give them a try? I find myself getting sick of how movies get over hyped or win a lot of awards. Took a long time before I saw Forrest Gump because all hype and been this way ever since. I do like sc fi / fantasy. Plus I would like to stay home and watch movies then go out. I agree with you I like Jackson's early stuff. How you feel about the Beast Master movie ?
Wonderful job on the video bro I still remember renting the first ''Lord of The Rings'' film from blockbuster I feel asleep on it the first time then the next day I tried to watch it again later on that day the film just wasn't for me I never bothered with the sequels period yes I grew up with fantasy films like ''The Sword and The Sorcerer'', both ''Conan'' films,''Red Sonja''&''The Beastmaster'' yes ''Krull''&''Willow'' too(btw the hell with that new disney+ series they are just going to screw it up IMHO) I get it people those hate films I brought up but hey I stick with those films and they can stick with ''The Lord of The Rings'' films fair enough.
Of course, Lord of the Rings was originally going to be Miramax, and Harvey Weinstein really wanted to make those films. But Michael Eisner bulked up the budget and the proposal to make multiple movies and so Harvey had no choice but to tell Peter Jackson to take Lord of the Rings elsewhere. Thus they ended up being produced and released by: "New Line Cinema", which ultimately turned out for the better. Because at Miramax, Harvey wanted Peter to condense the entire trilogy into two movies, but New Line allowed them to make it 3 movies. Now... granted, I'm not sure if Disney and Michael Eisner were kicking themselves for letting Lord of the Rings go, but Harvey definitely wasn't happy.
I have an interesting history with LOTR. Back in 2001 I was 10 years old and knew nothing about LOTR. Didn’t know the books and the first movie coming out. So for what ever reason, my dad took me to see it in theaters and…. it was torture! I hated it lol. To this day the first movie is still the most boring movie I ever seen in theaters. Then a year later the two towers comes out and guess what? My dad dragged me to the theater AGAIN to see it. Don’t ask why I have no idea why I went and I can’t remember. Anyway so I did see the two towers in the theater but I fell asleep lol. Slept through majority of the movie. And after that I was done. I avoided return of the king and I still have never seen it. I do remember being really annoyed when it swept the Oscars. I thought return of the king was very overrated and didn’t deserve so many awards even though I never saw it but whatever. So yeah I don’t blame you for never getting into LOTR. Not my cup of tea. The return of the king video game was cool though and I will say I do really like the musical theme/score for the movies. That’s all I find memorable about the trilogy.
Never cared about these movies either These movies are about talking & walking with maybe a little battle here and there with cgi creatures throughout. That's pretty much it.
I agree Matt, I don't like the LOTR / Hobbit movies either. They are just overlong and boring. The books are infinitely better. I'm not a fan of the Bakshi version either, that one is just kind of a mess. It seems like a series that's very hard to adapt properly to the screen. But lots of people like the Jackson films, so what do I know? Now the 1970s Rankin/Bass "Hobbit" was a great movie. It told the story well and in a short time, had a great voice cast and fun animation.
loved the LOTR trilogy but the peter jackson hobbit trilogy not so much (now the cartoon movie of the hobbit was great, while the animated LOTR wasn't). the books are great too but I get it if not everyone isn't into it
I agree, I myself can never get Into lord of the rings franchise. It’s too long and too boring. I will admit the only one I like or can watch in the trilogy is Return of the king. But that’s the only one. The rest I can give a Rat’s ass about.
The two towers is the best if your not much of a fan just go watch clips of the battle of helms deep and see how badass it is with Viggo Mortensen slaying a Ridiculous amount of orcs
I tried. The LOTR trilogy is boring, uninteresting and cartoony. In Return of the King, a movie that won the same amount of Oscars as a superior film in Ben-Hur 1959, had Orlando Bloom hopping around on a CGI elephant like Mario WITHOUT taking any damage. Clearly, ROTK won these awards in the era were winning awards started to not matter anymore. When it comes to the fantasy genre with dragons, medieval shit and magic, I prefer Record of Lodoss War, Slayers and Witcher by far. By the way...the hand to hand combat today? That guy is oblivious to the fact that hand to hand combat in today's motion pictures are practically the same. From your CBS procedural cop show to the big budget action blockbusters, they all fight in the exact same way (the typical U.S. military disarm and quick cut style shit). The 80s and 90s action films were more versatile with their hand to hand and gunplay. Watch the Indiana Jones and Rambo movies with their action. VERY different, yet so damn great. I'll even throw in the 70s; Bruce Lee's fight choreography in all 4 1/2 films STILL holds up, as well as Jackie Chan's early stuff in the 80s like Police Story.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who never got into these movies. I was way more into Harry Potter at the time, and I didn't even care to finish the trilogy after Fellowship which I remember renting when it came out and only enjoying the cave troll part. I've only seen bits and pieces of Two Towers and Return of the King because those movies are so damn long, but I do want to give them another chance one of these days. My favorite Peter Jackson films are still Dead Alive, The Frighteners, Bad Taste and Meet the Feebles.
Good point, could have done without all the multiple endings in Return of the King. Imagine watching the whole LOTR trilogy, that's a whole work day. 😄
I'm not really into it myself, I gave it a chance but they're not for me. I can respect them as well made movies, but they dragged on for me as a kid, I would rather watch the Matrix trilogy.
I get why Matt wouldn't get into it. Tolkien is high fantasy, elves, dwarves, dragons, and all that. It's an acquired taste. Me personally I love all that shit. I never played D&D but I watched the cartoon. The Hobbit movies were meh. But Tolkien's work is not for everyone. Take what Amazon is doing now with LOTR, shoving in black elves and dwarves where they don't belong. Made by people who would rather push an agenda than honor JRR Tolkien. I came out with my own fantasy series back in 1998 called Legendz, it was inspired by Tolkien but I put MY own spin on it because it has a black swordsman. But like I said LOTR is not for everybody, you either like it or you don't.
I never got Into TLOTR movies either , they were boring even though I love other similar movies. I think one reason was the cast felt wrong I just couldn't take these actors seriously for these roles , and never felt the franchise did anything outstanding or new , It didn't feel organically Immersive rather really contrived and generic , too much overproduced hollywood dressing. I've been much more Immersed by far cheaper similar films with little known actors for their time. As soon as the 2000's hit It's like the magic of hyped blockbusters rarely rose to the occasion anymore , soundtracks were almost never memorable anymore , and even expensive CG just didn't WOW me like It used to , It actually started to have the opposite effect of Immersion for me. This whole franchise just never lived up to the hype from day 1 imo (and/or that director's vision simply wasn't for me).
I'd read the books 3 times before I saw the movies. Two times in Dutch, one time in English and I liked them very much. Although there are chapters and segments that (to me) drag and are overtly detailed. But in the end, I really was prepared for the movies and I enjoyed them a lot. My personal favorite versions of the movies are the Extended Editions though... I also used to play a lot of RPG's on different computers and gaming consoles, like: Sega Master System, Sega Genesis/Sega Megadrive, NES, SNES, PS2, PS3, Amiga 500 and PC; so I'm used to the fantasy genre.
I do think these films are too long and Elijah Wood is a great actor, but honestly I like Martin Freeman as the lead in the hobbit films more than Elijah Wood!
I found LOTR just so boring with too much over the top CGI. It was such a turn off for me. More practical effects would have done wonders to add some realism. The whole series was just so fake and unengaging to me.
I don't care for The Lord of the Rings (2001-2003), it's nothing but AOL/TimeWarner propaganda, like many New Line films from 2001-2008 (despite I liked a few New Line films from that era like Blade II, Shoot 'em Up, Blow and a few others). That's why I prefer The Mask, Dumb and Dumber, Mortal Kombat, The Lawnmower Man, TMNT, Menace II Society, Se7en, Nightmare on Elm Street 1 and 3, The Player, Hoop Dreams, and other New Line/Fine Line films from the independent era and the Turner era.
I respect your opinions Matt, I loved TLOTR and Hobbit!!!

I loved Val kilmore in Tombstone! "Must be a peach of a hand!"
But Rambo did u like the fight scene when Aragorn fights the big goblin in a sword fight scene it's in LOTR part 1
The trilogy was slow in some areas and great in others. The books are classics but even classics are a matter of preference.
That’s all I find memorable about the trilogy.
i agree matt and i really never got into the lord of the rings films i rather watch willow or conan great topc video matt
Never cared about these movies either
These movies are about talking & walking with maybe a little battle here and there with cgi creatures throughout.
I never got into this franchise either. Never worked for me.
I respect your opinion. Personally, I like “The Lord of the Rings” movies but I have to admit they are kind of long.
loved the LOTR trilogy but the peter jackson hobbit trilogy not so much (now the cartoon movie of the hobbit was great, while the animated LOTR wasn't). the books are great too but I get it if not everyone isn't into it
I agree, I myself can never get Into lord of the rings franchise. It’s too long and too boring. I will admit the only one I like or can watch in the trilogy is Return of the king. But that’s the only one. The rest I can give a Rat’s ass about.
There's some good battles in there.
The two towers is the best if your not much of a fan just go watch clips of the battle of helms deep and see how badass it is with Viggo Mortensen slaying a Ridiculous amount of orcs
3:18 i think Legend is pretty overrated, especially Tom cruise’s acting which I will be honest, good actor but his acting in that film is pretty bad.
Even Tom Cruise hates Legend and considers it one of his worst movies.
@@kingslayer2999 interesting.
Yea I agree I never got the hype back then when it came to this film at all I like Elijah wood as and actor but that's it
I'm glad I'm not the only one who never got into these movies.
Harry Potter is Kiddie Garbage with Bad CGI starring a Dork in glasses
Good point, could have done without all the multiple endings in Return of the King. Imagine watching the whole LOTR trilogy, that's a whole work day. 😄
I have the same opinion. LOTR bore’s
me, and no matter how hard I try I can’t get into them. The same goes for Game of Thrones.
I believe the rings just lacks a memorable villain, the hero’s are fine.Peter Jackson has done ✅ much better then this.
Yeah, I mean you got Sauron but he doesn't have a face and most of the time he's just a giant eye. How the hell can you relate to that? 😄
I never got Into TLOTR movies either , they were boring even though I love other similar movies. I think one reason was the cast felt wrong
I just couldn't take these actors seriously for these roles , and never felt the franchise did anything outstanding or new ,
It didn't feel organically Immersive rather really contrived and generic , too much overproduced hollywood dressing.
I've been much more Immersed by far cheaper similar films with little known actors for their time. As soon as the 2000's hit
It's like the magic of hyped blockbusters rarely rose to the occasion anymore , soundtracks were almost never memorable anymore ,
and even expensive CG just didn't WOW me like It used to , It actually started to have the opposite effect of Immersion for me.
I'm not into Lord Of The Ring too.
Nice dint know you watch him too
@@JackalGoldKick he's the reason I've done reviews in the first place.
@@TheRealKnightFuryPremiere yeah that's pretty cool
@@JackalGoldKick yeah.
I never cared for the Twilight movies. Boring and overrated. I am not too much into vampire films but there are some good ones such as Lifeforce.
not you cup of tea i get it
I don't like the lotr and narnia movies either prefer the books
I do think these films are too long and Elijah Wood is a great actor, but honestly I like Martin Freeman as the lead in the hobbit films more than Elijah Wood!
I never cared for The Lord of The Rings.
Same
Same here. Me four
These movies were not impactful to me at all.
