Have been using it for a year and a half. The set-up was easy and it talks to you in a little strip of text on top….diagnoses its own problems and gives you directions to cure any snags that may occur. Very reliable!
Canon IJ Scan Utility will allow you to scan documents or jpg photos to your computer. Utility will also allow you to switch between printers if you have more than one.
One of the big problem of this printer is that it doesn't support double face scanning over feeder, which is a must in any PIXMA printer. The ink is another problem: it doesn't last even 100 pages, and the cartridges are expensive. This printer is a lemon.
This is a wonderful printer does everything is quiet and takes up very little space. Scans, prints double-sided, photos, faxes, prints, has a feeder or manual copying its a good printer and very reasonably priced.
This was helpful, and when I measured my old Canon MG3620, it wasn't all that much larger. Also - I had fits with mine connecting wirelessly to my Mac until I selected "LAN settings" on the printer's small display screen under the "wi-fi" settings. Under the LAN settings, elect "enable". I hope that helps.
As an owner of a Konica C224 photocopier...its better to buy a used unit even if its slightly older. The very last thing to worry about is toner, parts on the other hand are more expensive, but at least it won't end up as e-waste in 2 or 3 years. She's already 11 years old and going so far strong.
Hi Erin you have a Mac I noticed. Helpful vidio; Just bought this. Prints okay, size (other than side tray) is okay BUT NO manual (with printer or on line!). Mine is set on "duplex" printing and I can't figure out how to get to single page printing then switch back. Tried from my computer and the printer's settings--but no luck. Any ideas?
Can you use 3rd party replacement ink cartridges or does the firmware pre-loaded prohibit this? I made the mistake of downloading an update to my Epson Workforce 3720 printer that prohibited the use of 3rd party cartridges even though I had done it for over a year. I heard there is a class action lawsuit against Epson because of this situation. Regarding the SCAN feature. So there is no item in the Menu that you can select Scan and get a document to feed into the machine? BTW, it's nice that I can actually understand what you are saying instead of trying to interpret "broken" English.
Not a good choice if scanning is to phone through an app. If wifi is not reliable how does it work? I really wanted to keep this product… and think ink issues I am reading about is going to be a problem. I basically bought this product for scanning purposes. But having the other functions is good to have.
Good review. There is probably some software you need to download to interface directly with the printer on your desktop/laptop. I've used Canon printers for many years now.
@@ErinLawrenceTV I got it to scan to computer no problem. Use the buttons on the printer it's self. The display on printer asks if you want it to scan to computer. Push "OK" Simple. Hi liked you review but not crazy about the printer. Canon usually makes better product. I think it’s cheaply made. I have a question…. How do I get the printer to stay on? I had it set up that way and then we bought new Wi-Fi equipment. Since then it shuts off after maybe a day. I can’t remember how to get it to stay on….
Good question! Sometimes these printers have something in the settings where you can leave it on, or at least put it into a standby mode that will respond though it is in low power. I reviewed about five printers in three months, so I can no longer remember if this is one of them that has this setting… Might be a question for Canon
This drove me nuts too. What good is a wireless printer if you have to get up from across the room to turn it on all of the time. Good news though! You can set it to stay on. In the Maintenance tab, click Auto Power, Enable Auto Power On, and Disable Auto Power Off. Good luck!
Virtually impossible to find ink cartridges. No brick and mortar store carries them and even the Canon website does not keep sufficient numbers in stock.
Great review. I wonder if you found a way to "preview" what you are going to scan. My 20-year old Brother printer has this feature but it seems TR4720 doesn't allow you to select a section of the scanned document/photo in preview mode and then scan (with higher resolution) the selected section of that document/photo only.
In Windows search bar on lower left, type "Scan". It will give a link for the Windows Fax and Scan App. Click this and you can see the preview of what you scan.
Thanks. I'm guessing no Ethernet on a US$99 printer? I'd be curious as to the full ink cartridges too. Often when the "starters" run out you find the full ones for a US$99 printer are almost the cost of the printer.
Hi Maurice, I did not try out the fax line, maybe because I had no hardwired phone line, and also I don’t know who sends or receives faxes anymore. probably a question for Canon support. 🫤
JUST GOT A NEW ONE TODAY; IMPOSSIBLE TO GET UP AND RUNNING! (AND I'M A COMPUTER REPAIR TECH!!)WON'T ACCEPT BRAND NEW, INCLUDED INK CARTS. ABOUT READY TO BOX IT BK UP, AND SEND BK TO AMAZON.
Worst printer I ever bought! First off I had it less than a month and have already had to purchase 2 sets of ink! $24.99 +tax on just one black ink. The scanner multiple copies… it drags a few papers at a time regardless how neatly stacked, I had to manually hold each sheet before it gets sucked in and it would crumble sideways causing my documents to get damaged on the edges. I had a Brother MFC280 before this one and HARDLY EVER replaced ink. This printer is no good.
Sorry, but a $65 printer may have limited use. Cartridges are generally expensive. Be on guard, this is my second Canon, the first only lasted 8 months with a warranty by Asurion. This warranty was under Canada's jurisdiction therefore it was useless. This $139 printer began to have feeder problems. Feeder would put down extra paper. After a few months of use, feeder would feed in one sheet of paper that got stuck in the middle and caused printer to believe there was a paper jam. I worked with both Amazon and Canon to no avail. My saving grace was having AT&T who covers IT products for $45/mo. They were unable fix it and refunded me. I may seem crazy for purchasing another less expensive Canon but I have 3 Canons that I have had for years without an ounce of trouble. I figured it this way, without a warranty and paying so little, I will toss the dawn thing!
THANK YOU FOR YOUR REVIEW. HOWEVER, I WOULD LIKE TO SEE OR KNOW IF THIS PRINTER SCANS AND MAKES COPIES (PLACING A SHEET OF PAPER ON THE SCANNER) WITHOUT USING WIFI?
