Hope you enjoyed this one! Unlike most youtubers i always show the good with the bad. Could of easily built this without anyone knowing but parts sometimes fail, even on Formula 1 cars 🤷🏻♂️
I hope you’re not insinuating that there’s people that would tell porky’s on here😱 😂😂 It’s nice to see an honest guy showing not everything goes to plan 1st time every time👍🏼 How many miles did you get on it Aaron before you caught the pump? Great content bud appreciate your work👌🏼
Hey Aaron. Are these ARP Headstuds? with how much Torque do you torque them down? 80lbs? (110Nm?). Do you retorque them after engine warm up? i had problems with mine on my evo 3, thats why im asking.
Not sure if you'll see this comment Aaron, but here goes! I've been a mechanic for over 20 years now and just like you I love rebuilding engines. I only discovered your channel a few days ago and have sat and binged all the Evo episodes! Absolutely amazing work and you most definitely put a lot of guys i've worked with over the years to shame. Even I would be happy and privileged to have you build an engine for me. Keep up the amazing work fella. You've got a new subscriber in me 💪
My 4g64 engine was reconditioned. Not really happy with the oil pressure being low like it was previously as it was a high km engine. I've had oil pressure average 60psi warm travelling 100km/h 40psi warm 80km Idle is where im concerned anywhere from 8psi to 18psi at idle. ? Concerning or not.?
I caught my STi 2.5 just in time, cracked oil pick up pipe (at the braised joint at the top where they are prone) Beware of oil light flicker on start up on the 2.5 guys, hopefully I've dodged a bullet....money didn't allow for Killer Bee as it's a fresh forged build.
had the same problem (2011) , lucky to catch it early ** by prying the oil gear.....installed a milled down oem balance shaft and problem solved forever.. ** there was no damage at all...and the motor then dyno at 704HP .... It was a local DSM guru who said the engine did not sound right.....
Hey mate, whats happend with balance shaft delete kit, and the oil pump...??...I got simelar build and been running 30psi boost for 7 years....still runs like a first day
Not much info since it was last built so seems as if he made a mistake building it up were all human and everyone can make mistakes👍🏻 props to him tho 2nd times a charm... or is it the 3rd....🙈
Not tempted to open up and clean the turbo too? That thing is also last place you want debris on the bearing/shaft. Perhaps you’ve done it already, wouldn’t be surprised. Impressive stuff.
If I'd have come across your channel a couple of years ago, I would have loved for you to rebuild my sti v3 type r engine after the bottom end went. instead I had to use a garage Id never heard of miles away. 🙄 they fitted a new version 8 sti engine in forged from factory (so they told me) but not being a mechanic I was going in totally blind. I still havn't done the 1000 miles running in 2 years later 😂🤣😅
@@AaronUnknownPerformance In the DSM 4g63 world we used to have some options but it seems they are discontinued now. The early style 4g63 used straight cut oil pump gears. Seems the only option now is to find a early set that is in good condition or stop using the short stubby shaft and get a long race balance shaft. May be able to get some from these guys www.rtmracing.com/xcart/product.php?productid=20330
I done balance shaft delete myself a few years ago and on a spare engine iam building with already balance shaft delete done i open the oil pump to check it, has some minor wear marks on the casing as yours but i have to say i put it back together 3 times with right torque and every time pump was partially seized untill at the 4 th time with the right torque all was good....a bit strange...
@@AaronUnknownPerformance so the solution is keep replacing the pump???there is a shaft delete with a support on the bearing, but you dont show on the video what type you fitting on the 2nd pump. The stubby one is well know to last for years with no issues....i dont think thats the cause of the failure on your 1st pump, i maybe wrong...
Hey dude, i just went through this building my 4g69 with evo5 head for my drift car ;-p, you absolutely need 6bolt straightcut gears if you’re running a balance shaft delete, reason being is the helical gears will have side load and wear out the pump, straight cut gear will not
Aaron Unknown also i haven’t watched the other build video as i’ve just discovered your channel but i hope you put some assembly lube in the pump before starting it up 👌subbed for future videos, keep it up
I'd definitely now be changing the Arp rod bolts and Mains, (haven't they been reused a more than once now?,and what about the head bolts?,this evo engine seems cursed but if anyone can sort it you can 👍.🍻
Deep pockets if you are in a hurry......my engine is now 10 yrs old and still not breathing out any oil fumes.....Now upgrading it again......with e85 and cams ..bigger turbo (ebay)
Do you make waterpurm custom for this engine .. i want you watch this video chanel aura dragster he make many engine 4g63/67/93 and lots engine he make for standard and upgrade stage1,2,3.. i hope understand me sory my english very bad.. you car very nice dude.. from malaysia🇲🇾 support you dude.. 👍👍

Glad you caught it early man 🙌🏻
Any pics of how it was milled down?
I have being running the stubby shaft for six years, no problem on my 500 hp EVO.
Don't see many TH-cam mechanics on Aaron Unknowns page 😏

Great work, love that you show times like this when things go wrong, can't wait for part 2 and then some driving clips, top work as always 🙏👍
Doesn’t seem 2 mins since you last built this! Can’t have done many miles since?
Not much info since it was last built so seems as if he made a mistake building it up were all human and everyone can make mistakes👍🏻 props to him tho 2nd times a charm... or is it the 3rd....🙈
I put sand in the oil Marko, i wont do that again 😓
Aaron Unknown bro I run sand in my oil no probs for like 400k mate still going strong.
Aaron Unknown next time you see sand mate put down the tools and grab the bucket and spade🙈
Your air filter looks a little loose it was almost spinning when you revved the engine, love the vids
Nice little update mate I’ll enjoy watching this rebuild
Love your work m8, how much would you charge for an astra h vxr stage 3 engine rebuild?
Your knowledge is unbelievable.
Not tempted to open up and clean the turbo too? That thing is also last place you want debris on the bearing/shaft. Perhaps you’ve done it already, wouldn’t be surprised. Impressive stuff.
Thanks! everything will be spotless 👌🏻

I’ve built many ej20/5 engines, I actually love the boxer engine
can't wait for the tear down and the document rebuild for the evo .is that why there was smoke coming out the exhaust because of the oil pump?
Great video Aaron, amazing work, always a pleasure to watch you work on some amazing engines👍👌😀
Hi there, i would like if the pump issue can lead to an engine overheat?
What's a good code reader for the mitsubishi mate I have a 4g63 sohc chariot and got no spark
And tryed elm327 bluetooth scanner
What do you think of the Acl oil pump same oem spec and above
Love watching u do engine rebuilds.
Do u have a link for that outro song ? I’ve been looking for it and can’t find it. Thanks
Hello Aaron how is the Evo any dyno videos?
Straight cut gears and proper timing belt tension is a must.
Who supplies straight cut gears?

Had the same problem with the oil pump on my 8. Luckily caught it in time
Glad you caught it mate 🙌🏻
Aaron Unknown enters Mitsubishi dealer...
Parts guy..."that's my quota met for the month"

Yeah its very common due to the lack of support from the removal of the balance shafts. Id suggest replacing the pump

Carnt wait to see this car on the road hopefully some nice races too
Love the rotational air filter!!!

Like your videos my mitsubishi chariot 1996 has a 4g63 sohc engine in mine anything I should keep a eye on mate

Great work, thanks for the video, very informative 👍
Why dont you get onto sponsors like Sealey mate
I can see why they say you need deep pockets with these cars.
Deep pockets if you are in a hurry......my engine is now 10 yrs old and still not breathing out any oil fumes.....Now upgrading it again......with e85 and cams ..bigger turbo (ebay)
Will you get the manifold ceramic coated to bring under bonnet temps down??
Yes mate it will be in black
