If anyone has any questions about boarding life at the Dover campus feel free to message me on twitter or Instagram (@hiheatherlynn). I was a boarder for 2 years (during the IB program) and have a lot to talk about!
I am working so hard to get into this school my parents told get A*. We will send i got 5 A* and 1 A And now they are going back on there word and are telling get all A* but that is really hard since I am that student who is not the teacher is favourite
I went to both UWC (elementary, middle school) and SAS (high school). UWC is good and teaches a lot on global concerns but to be honest SAS is a million times better in truly shaping you to become a productive, confident and well rounded individual. GO EAGLES!
You have to apply through your national UWC selection comitee. I would suggest your googling the following: uwc "insert the name of your country here" Wish you all the best for your application and hurry up, in most countries they close the application somewhen in january. good luck mate
I would strongly suggest you did not join UWCSEA. This school is incredibly racist. Or at least it was, in the 1980s. There was an English teacher there, her name was Christine Withers (Mrs C.E.M. Withers). She was about as racist as they come. She used to push and shove a student of Indian descent when he was a student of hers in 1980-81. And she used to force him to carry her bags. And if he complained, she would shout at him. Imagine that. This boy's parents paid thousands of Singapore dollars for him to attend a "prestigious" school, and all he got was racial abuse from his own English teacher. It was almost as if Mrs Withers thought she was still living in the British Raj -- even though this was 1980s Singapore. Withers was sick in the head, no doubt about that. A racist bully. That's not all. The wife of the Middle School Girls's House (Maley House) was a demented old woman called Mrs Maley. She, together with white female boarders at Maley House, used to draw caricatures of the female occupants of that house. They'd draw caricatures of Asian female boarders, and underneath they would write 0/10. And they'd also draw caricatures of the European female boarders, and they would caption the drawings by writing 10/10. In other words, Asian females were 0/10 in terms of attractiveness, whereas white girls were 10/10. This was the _WIFE_ of the _HOUSEMASTER_ who was partaking in these drawings! Imagine that. Mr Maley himself (now deceased) was, by all accounts, a good man. His wife, on the other hand, was a total sociopath. One day, a male student from the Middle School Boys House (Carpenter House) stood up for his female Asian counterparts by delivering a bouquet of black roses to Mrs Maley -- personally. Mrs Maley freaked out and started shouting at this Thai student. Apparently, black roses are a symbol of death in Christianity. This male Thai student, Pramod Phornprapha (a member of one of Thailand's wealthiest families) was grounded for a week by Mr Brian Carpenter, the Housemaster of Carpenter House. But Carpenter told Pramod that he was grounding him reluctantly, because he (Carpenter) understood why Pramod did it. UWCSEA of the 1980s was a hellhole for Asian students who had to endure racial abuse on a daily basis. You still want to join UWCSEA? (Hope you get to read my post before the uploader (UWCSEA) deletes it).
I went there in the late 90s to mid 2000s and I experienced racism too! My 8th grade English teacher (forgot her name) was checking our first draft papers in class (which she really shouldn't have because its wasting class time!) and would spend several minutes with the white kids then for the asian kids, including myself, she would just scan it and say its good. So you assume there's not much that needs improving right? So we hand in the final draft with minor changes and when we get the graded paper back it would be full of red marks!
Congratulations to everyone lucky enough to experience this campus on their own! ❤️
I was lucky enough to be a scholar at UWCSEA during 1988-1990. The time of my life.
