    My hometown ❤️ Born in Baltimore, raised in London, England. Have been back many times and loved every visit. Sure there's problems but the city feels alive and lived in still unlike some of the major cities like London or New York.

    I graduated from the historic HBCU, Morgan State University located in Baltimore in 1978. Baltimore in 2023 is a HELL hole plagued with violence, shootings, and car-jackings. If someone were to give me a free home in the Canton - Fells Point neighborhoods not too far from Johns Hopkins University Hospital in East Baltimore, I wouldn't take it.

    People have a giant misconception about Baltimore.
    The city itself is down to 585, 000 people, but Baltimore is surrounded on the east, north and west (it doesn't have a true southern part because that's the harbor, ) by communities that touch the city line or are within about three to five miles or so of the city... that have a population of over 750, 000 people; and we all call ourselves Baltimoreans in these communities.
    Three of these communities are nearing 100, 000 people and by the 2020 census all of them are growing significantly!
    So, from about 3 to 5 miles outside the city, and including the city, there's a population probably, if you count all of the smaller communities ... of a little over 1. 5 million people in the immediate Baltimore area!! The city is shrinking, but these areas close to & touching the city are growing significantly!!
    The metro area is almost 3 million people!
    The Baltimore Metropolitan Council... should look into incorporating these areas into a larger city which could help the city itself gain better political leadership!! In the past 20 or more years, the political leadership of the city, doesn't seem all that interested in attracting people from these surrounding communities, and that REALLY needs to change; and maybe it could if a larger Baltimore City could gain fresh ideas from politicians not of the corrupt machine of the city itself!
    Baltimore City is only 92 sq miles, Philly with 1.6 million, for instance is... 140 sq miles. Philly can be said to keep growing because it has that large an area where the population in much of it, like in the areas surrounding Baltimore... continue to grow.
    So, there needs to be some kinda growth in the area of the city, so it can, hopefully, gain better political leadership, fresh ideas & revenue!
    Baltimore will never die because of the port. It is the 9th ranked port in the nation in $$$$ of cargo that goes thru it, and is # 1 in imported auto and farm equipment handling!!
    If I were in the Baltimore Metro Council, I'd seek to expand the Port of Baltimore even more to create more jobs & tax revenue, and seek some kind of incorporation with the communities that immediately surround Baltimore City.

      Charlotte?? LOL. Baltimore is a grand, old city. The two cities can't be compared and at Baltimore's height of population it was nearly a million people in 8 square miles. Charlotte is just a little sprawled out city. Baltimore is not just Baltimore anymore. Baltimore is Baltimore and Baltimore County (without it's tax base).

    • @Edmondson_Avenue
      @Edmondson_Avenue 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jamescsjrwork9516 Exactly people are unaware that there's two Baltimore's with a combined population of nearly 1.5 million people and 774 square miles between city and county, the government's are different but the people aren't, but it's terrible that racism killed our region from getting a heavy rail system and growing to it's full potential like many other large major American cities, I'm tired and laugh at people who try to compare Towson and Columbia to Baltimore, they are unincorporated towns, and Towson is a community and the county of Baltimore county, Baltimore is an independent major city.
      We don't need anymore light rail, we need a heavy rail or maglev system that's mainly underground, or elevated, the one above ground light rail system that we have has killed and injured so many people over the years and it's much slower than heavy rail it has to stop for traffic lights, I-170 should have been completed we have the tendency to start and not finish project or downgrade them for example look at the Lexington market renovation project! It was downgraded, we're supposed to be one of the most developed cities in the country!

    I'm from bmore and it sucks. Sucks bad. There's a reason the population is on the decline. Weather sucks, cops are corrupt, people arnt friendly. The only people who like bmore are the idiots who have never been anywhere to compare it to. The only reason it's still alive is because it's managed to feed off dirty governmet money coming from D.C Mostly from the people who are forced to live between the two cities who work at one of the million defense companies. But those people have second homes in Florida to escape the winter and poverty stricken city so money can continue to flow outside of the places that need it the most. The worst part is anyone well traveled moves away leaving a city full of ignorant people who all think the same and can't tell u a single redeeming fact about bmore that u couldn't find in any other city. It's devoid of art, mayor was fired for corruption who also fired the police commisioner a few years back, there are no clubs, (if u count fells or fed hill ur an idiot). I'd say Gothem is worse but at least they have Batman.

    Baltimore is the birthplace of Jim crow, redlining, and blockbusting. A very racist area since America's independents when Baltimore was under martial law because it supported the south. Today the city is predominantly black but white racist surrounds the city on every side constantly spewing negativity as the city tries to overcome all the racist policy's that's been enacted since the "white flight" in the 70's. Baltimore is a beautiful city with lots to do. Yes, there's crime here but also in every major city.
